It was great 💯💯💯
Thank you 🙌🏼
Nice vid👍 great explanation 👍
Thank you! 🙏🏼
thank you brother
Anytime!
I just checked the Ozone EQ to see if it had mid/side and stereo EQ's. It does so I'm definitely going to implement this!
Awesome! Let me know how it goes ;)
ty & song is fye
The beast
Wow, great voice and explanations. Serial limiting, has a novel quality ... but also seems very redundant, unless your volume is so low at the end, but interesting to test it
Faster compression for drum mixes (perhaps) vs smooth compression for the mastering transients is certainly a win/win, I think (thunk?). Thank you, 5piece!
Hey thank's for this clear and cool content !! I reaaly love the sound, please where can I find it ?? (Cannot find it as "Cant hang with us - 5PiECE or FACTOR")
I like to sidechain the Mid Channel Bass to the Kick, in FL Patcher
Sup. Great video. Pultec - when you said 60hz cought some vocal also, wouldnt attenuation help to fix that? Thanks
The removal of the lows from the sides is an awesome trick! But should I go the high for metal? Floor toms are usually panned to the sides, and that would render them too thin I guess.
This is awesome! Just one question, do you ever high pass filter for mastering without using side? If so how many hz? Thanks!
How haven’t you done a mix breaks down to this song sounds amazing
Aw man I appreciate that S2 Pluggy! This song hasn't dropped just yet (but will be very soon) so I'm trying to build things out before I do a full breakdown behind-the-scenes. Glad you dig it!
@@5piece Up ! Any news on this song ? would love to hear it aaaand see your behind the scene too
This is the most detailed and clearly explained mastering video I've seen on you tube, thanks a lot.
a pultec on a master bus? wow , powerful eq for precise mastering, use sparingly
Also for the glue compression, do you always have to sidechain out the low frequencies? I heard the low frequencies can mess with the compressor
What RMS do you like the final mix to be at before you start mastering? And what RMS do you usually aim for with the final limiter?
Great video ! What db did you start your mastering of this song at ?
Can’t recall off top but I generally preserve 3-6db of headroom from 0db
i thought the pultec bands only affects the hi boost...i've check it on plugin doctor, for my waves puigtec and ruletec from noiseash, is the UAD one different?
How do you keep your microphone from not picking up the outside sound of your speakers As you do your talk through?
Love Your Work Bro Bro Let's Work
hey bro dose this works with instrumental.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
❤️❤️❤️🙏

The idea of serial limiting makes total sense (first trim the peaks, then bring back level) but I'm not sure there's any advantage of 2 vs a single stage if you use the same limiter with the same style/attack/release settings. Wouldn't it yield the same results as having a single limiter with 4.5dB (1.5 + 3) of gain?
I find it yields very different results personally. Even though the settings are the same/similar, the reaction is different because of that pretreatment. Usually sounds much more transparent when split across 2 limiters compared to 1 dialled fully. I encourage you to try it yourself - that’ll tell you better than I or anyone ever will 😉
It would be much interesting ti compare the unmastered at the sane average level of mastered One, to match loudness.
In retrospect, I agree. Been doing this on more recent tutorials as this one is now 1+ years old. My recent Ozone Mastering video has a whole section dedicated to Gain Match comparisons: Mastering Hip Hop from Start To Finish with Izotope Ozone 10
ruclips.net/video/MfFXwkiBJ6w/видео.html
Pro Secret Reveal, Series Limiting . I normally used 3 Limiters , at least each is limiting about 1db of gain reductions
Great strategy for transparent loudness. I normally do the same - you will see exactly how in an upcoming video where I break down how I mastered EverythingOShauN's song "WOJ" - should be dropping next week!
5piece Much love
When you sweetened the 30 Hz , didn't you add some rumble to the side channel which you initially removed?
We can think this one to death but the question is: how does it sound? Do you hear rumble? Or do you hear a fuller low end? Does it sound like that boost is adding rumble? Or do we suspect that because we know too much now? 😂
The logic, if we want to think this one through, is the first EQ takes / reduces the rumble and the second EQ enhances the lows as a whole, which can compensate for some of the thinning we hear from cutting the lows (if any). Similar areas of effect, but different intention and results.
It’s situational so use your ears - maybe you don’t add 30hz to sweeten and instead do 60 or 100 (or whatever you like). Either way, listen to it and use your judgement to discern. As long as it’s not too cloudy, muddy or unarticulated - it’s likely fine.
Thanks for such a detailed answer to my question. As a budding artist , this lesson was very useful. Cheers mate!
Anytime! Best of luck my friend!!
A simple but solid chain that translates well to beginners and reminds one of what mastering is at its core. There's tons of cool tricks and overboard processing that could be done. But a mix done well shouldn't need much. Oftentimes, less is more.
I used 4 limiters sometimes 😅😁😎🏆
Ain’t nothing wrong with that! As long as it sounds good. I use serial limiting and serial compression all the time!
bro can u show us the vocal chain used in this exemple thx
Will see what I can do for a future video 💪🏼💪🏼
Do you think there’s any significant difference in throwing the compressor before the m/s eq? So basically the compressor is 1st in the chain
It will always depend but I’d recommend trying it and seeing how it sounds to you. I like putting the M/S in first because I can cut the unnecessary low end before compressing, which may make the compressor react less aggressively and sound more transparent. However, there is more than one way/approach. Use your ears and judgement always! I’m known to move my plugins around and not always follow the exact sequence (although limiters and maximizer are always last!)
@@5piece Great advice and info man thank you!
It's actually weird that i hear the difference on my phone's speaker👌 especially the midside eq
When I mix vocals on a wav stereo beat on which mastering has already been done, do I still do sweetening with a pultec, does the sound image distort?
Try it out and see for yourself ! It generally works for me, but like all mixing it’s situational. If you start distorting then either avoid it, or create more headroom before applying EQ/other processing. Headroom is key to avoid distortion 🤙🏼
@@5piece I leave about - 6 db and I'm careful that there is no clipping but when I add pultec eq and busted it's not that beat anymore, I have to see what spoils it, whether it's a trackespacer or a smackatack that I put on beat, I have to review thx
My only question is what is the target loudness I need my master at. I heard people say 8-10 db but my mixes always get ruined when I bring it up that loud with a limiter.
Never mind shout out to you bro you fixed my mastering problem. Another tutorial from someone else had me putting the output celing on my limiter down to -3. I guess that was squashing it and messing up the transients. The -.1 and -1 in a series fixed it. Thanks boss man.
Can you tell is this chain correct or good?
OTT (MultibandComp)
Eq's ( Substract and boosting)
Stereo Imager
Limiter
It will be a big help for me.
thank you
Hard to say by just reading text. How does it SOUND? The sequence / order seems good but we don’t read music via text, we listen to it 👂🏼hope this helps!
@@5piece thank you. 🙏🙏🙏
low frequencies have a longer wavelength than hrt i thought
After your final L2 what LUFs short term are you aiming for ?
It varies per song but I’m generally in that -8 to -10 range although sometimes I’ve been higher and lower with equally as good results.
i got something for this
Emesique
Do you ever automate anything in the master. Is that too dangerous?
Wow, krk in an untreated room without a racing chair? You must be on to something
Getting comments from trolls with no subscribers and zero content, COMBINED with the millions of streams on my masters AND the full-time income I make from mixing and mastering tells me I'm MORE onto something than you'd want others to know 🤣
Don't let my shine affect you, things will get better if you try to stay positive and not cut everyone down ❤️ Thanks for the engagement.
@@5piecehahahaha 😆
Another Pro Secret Reveal , Serials Limiting
Dude! You are working on a deceased DAW 😅…. Thanks is for the video though 😂
Industry standard for a reason ;) but I encourage everyone to use whatever DAW works best for them.
They're just vehicles that get you to a destination, and really don't matter much (although Pro Tools is BEAST for dealing with audio in particular, no DAW comes close IMHO)
And yet this dude never checked the LUFs while limiting
That’s a big cut in the lows bro
you have an amazing channel , i learnt alot here but id really suggest you do more showing and less talking. damn
I like to think my audience comes to my channel to watch because I’m THOROUGH, even if that means explaining things very in-depth. When I don’t explain enough, I get many questions from viewers like you which is challenging. I know that I show plenty at the same time. Perhaps not to your exact liking but as I’ve learned, there is no pleasing all. Glad I could help with my content, and thank you for watching. Damn.
the music lol
