As I'm getting older and spending a little bit more money on my clothes I really appreciate videos like this that help me understand where I should be spending my money and how I can be a bit more responsible! I have been binging on your videos recently and they are really helping me develop my vision for a smaller but more curated wardrobe. Thank you ❤
Buying less but better and enjoy wearing those pieces is the best sustainable way someone can do. Even better than buying lots of sustainable brands and than wearing just a 3th of that. So think before buying & then love it wear it 🌻
Thank you for speaking up about responsible wool. The cruelty towards animals in the fashion industry is insane. This is why I only purchase 2nd hand wool, but always interested in hearing about ethically responsible companies.
Agreed. I actually buy second hand everything for this reason. Post production the damage is done. I just cannot in good conscience support the industry anymore.
I have learnt SO MUCH from your videos over the years - picking knitwear, how amazing Everlane is, styling with coats, ethically sourced wool, the fact that you can de-bobble knitwear! Thanks heaps for all the effort you’ve put into these videos, they have really, and I’m not being OTT, changed my fashion game so much.
Thank you Emma for speaking up about ethical wool and recycled wool. Sheep, just as goats and Alpacas suffer extremely when the shearing/shaving is not done in a Humane and ethical manner. We all need to check where and how knits are produced! Wonderful vid! 🐑💕
Hi Emma, love your sweater collection, like yourself I am crazy about cashmere and wool and natural fibers. I have eradicated anything synthetic from my wardrobe years ago. Was never a fan of any brand of fast fashion either. All aspects of sustainability have become very important to me in recent years. Your videos are so appreciated for the styling and tips on brands as well. Funnily enough, I come from Chile, the land of Alpaca (though I live in Canada) but I didn't know that they graze lightly on the grass without hurting the roots. How great is that!
Hi Emma! Love this segment where you focus on the quality and sustainability! Filippa K is a swedish 🇸🇪brand and I couldn't be more proud, such quality and timeless pieces 👍❤️ I'm a bit over 30 and has realized that i can't keep shopping chlothes the way I have been doing, instead I want to focus my warderobe on good quality. Your channel really gives me the inspiration and information for my new way of reasoning when it comes to sustainable fashion. Keep up the good work! xo from Sweden 😘
Bravo to the amount of research that went into making this video!!! I've recently acquired the turtleneck from The Curated and as a fabric freak myself, I couldn't be happier with the quality!! I appreciate you shifting your purchases to more sustainable brands; you inspired me to do the same!! I quit shopping fast fashion almost entirely (I am very privileged to do so, of course). Now I have sweaters I've been wearing for 5 or 6 seasons (from everlane, their cashmere holds up very well!) I also recently came across a knitwear brand called "sheep included": they include the information of the sheep from whom the sweater's wool is from! Would love to hear your opinion if you ever came across this brand! Also, who would I be if I were to comment here without appreciating Simon's editing! It's as beautiful and smooth as ever!
This has really made me think about my purchases, ethics and sustainability even more. It’s something which has been playing on my mind lately and I will definitely be making more of an effort going forward. Thank you ♥️
Love that you're talking more about sustainable fashion. It's honestly a bit depressing for me to go in an H&M and see racks and racks full of synthetic knitwear. What happens to those sweaters after a few wears? They aren't good enough to resell, so I suspect many ultimately end up in landfills. In contrast, good quality knitwear can be worn for years or resold if you decide you no longer like it. I'm also an Arket fan (thanks in part to your videos)! I'm actually wearing one of their wool midi sweater dresses now, and it's like going around all day wrapped up in a wool blanket.
Hi Emma, Fisherman out of Ireland does beautiful, soft, well made 100% natural fibres knitwear. Very well priced, similar to &daughter but better valve. I have a few pieces and they have lasted and washed well. They are a small company working out of Donegal. Always enjoy your videos. X
Absolutely loving the videos, how well put together and executed. Thank you for adding a lot of information about the brands, ethics and sustainability; the videos are so informative
Not only that alpacas dont damage the roots thanks to their light and particular way to step, but they havent damaged the pavements and roads where they stepped by either, a fact that helps to preserve 100 years ancient roads and facilities in the Andes. Your's a lovely and tastefull knit collection, by the way....
Beautiful collection! Thanks for sharing and for the recs. Sadly I suffer wool allergies and also alpaca. I’ve replaced my knitwear with 100% cotton across the board. Not as warm, but no itchy eyes, chapped lips, scratchy throat or runny nose (seriously lame!) I’ve had great luck buying second hand Ralph Lauren and LLBean knits- great quality and classic styles. Poshmark and thrift stores have loads to choose from. Love your channel Emma!!
Omg Emma, that cashmere tracksuit! I'm dead. This was a great video. Alpaca is really where it's at. Also, I buy all my cashmere secondhand/thrifted (bc $$), and I have a wonderful collection that I adore, including some crazy vintage apres-ski pieces!
Emma, good afternoon!...I loved your knitwear, especially cashmere, they are wonderful, thank you for your social responsability, thank you for talking about fibers, it very important to educate the public for all these differences ..good week for you❣
Hi Emma!! You are my favorite fashion inspiration ❤. I’m in my mid 50s from Florida and I am constantly refining my wardrobe to be minimal, classic and flattering. Keep the videos coming please. You’re like my friend I have coffee with most mornings LOL. Cheers!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I adore knits and only purchase those composed of natural fibers. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of sustainable brands.
I feel well schooled on the subject of knitwear now and also discovered a couple of new brands. Thank you for all the in-depth information you provide, always super helpful when thinking of investing in these kind of pieces 🙌🏻.
So far I gravitate towards your authentic and color choice. You are my favorite next to two other Fashion RUclipsrs / Influencers. I have subconsciously collected a number of pieces in this video since last year, just realizing that now 😳 But I am a thrifter some second hand and some thrift stores i buy from sell brand new with tag, never been worn pieces👏
So informative, really appreciate the effort and information you share. Really makes me consider my shopping habits. Looking forward to your next video 🙂
Thanks for the video. Very informative and enjoyed. I have been re-doing my wardrobe a bit at a time. Recently started purchasing clothing from & Other Stories. So far I love the quality of their clothing. I like the fact that they do have a nice selection of organic. They have really great sales.
Yaaaay watching at 7:30 🥰 Love knitwear, cannot get enough of knitwear, I have two drawers full of knitwear 😂 Emma thanks for talking about fibres (cashmere🙌🏼). Also are you going bring out more videos during lockdown part 2? 😃😃 xoxo Alix
Lockdown pt 2 🙈🙈 We are going to try and continue as we planned, as we already have some video ideas scheduled but of course no one knows what will happen and we all no how tough it was before, so we shall aim to continue but will take it day by day. ❤️
Love knitwear. My collection has been built up over many years. I love natural fibres and classic minimal styles so this was super useful. The only brand I don’t know about is Flippa K so I’m going to check them out. Other brands I love and which fit into the criteria you mention (quality, sustainable, minimal, natural) are Margaret Howell, Toast and Joseph. All are classic British brands. I prefer to support local brands but have recently also discovered a Spanish brand called Babaa. They have many undyed wool pieces. Keep up the great work Emma!
Hi Emma! I recently discovered your videos which are like the best minimalist lessons I've ever had. I would love a video on heeled shoes. I have to wear a lot of heels, especially court shoes, for work and I am try to shop less and more carfully. I know it's not the "heel year" but it would be quite useful for the future :)
As someone with major wool allergies I've yet to find any wool that doesn't cause a reaction, including Alpaca. I've even tried layers underneath to no success. I've found cotton knit with a layering shirt underneath to be the best solution.
Same here, I have really reactive skin. Personally, I switched to thermal layers. I really like Uniqlo’s heattech range and fleeces (which actually looks like knitwear. I tend to size up and it looks stylish). My preference for natural fibre is cotton but I like a technical fabric knitwear/fleece in the colder months so I don’t get too hot (and avoiding the sweat-itch-scratch cycle altogether).
@@mizpah1993 definitely! It's the length of the fibres that I react to, it's not just lanolin. I can wear some merino wool jumpers with no problem. Alpaca makes me itch just holding it even 5%! A mohair mix can be bearable with a long sleeve t underneath. Lambs wool or Shetland , yak, alpaca are the devils work for me!
Thanks Emma. I am a knitter and enjoy everything about knitwear. You should take up knitting. I think you would enjoy all the different yarns you can make things with.
You are doing an excellent job Emma, although I do miss your vlogs very much, I totally understand and respect your new choices and I always love your videos because of the hard work and professionalism you put into them ! 💗 Love & light from me & the girls 🧘♀️🐼🐻 Xxx
thank you for considering allergic suffers, i'm one of them 😙 i didn't try alpaca yet, now i'm intrigued. (and unfortunately i'm one of this people who want pink or purple sweater)
Such a great video! Thanks for your commitment to sustainability and proper care of animals! I’m wondering if you would please compare the warmth levels of cashmere v yak v alpaca perhaps with a softness and ease of care comparison as well. Thank you, Love!
Emma, I absolutely love that you now mention things such as which fibres out of the natural ones are the most sustainable!! The more people are made aware of that the better! THANK YOU for doing this
Love all your knitwear items, especially the classic colours you choose. Personally I can't wear very high necks because I get a hot and itchy neck so I prefer a v-neck or crew neck for myself. I'm a fan of M&S in general and I look out for cashmere in their sale. I'll check out the other brands, too. Thanks, Emma.
Hi Emma!! Filippa K and The Curated are my most loved ones . All of your knitwear are investment pieces . So many great options. Thank you so much for your time !! Have a look at soft goat. I believe you’ll like their knitwear. Happy Sunday 🥰
hi Emma, thanks to you, Im so aware of natural fibres and the slow fashion movement that that whenever I shop, I always make it a point to check the fabric composition. Such a difference it's made to my wardrobe ! Love ur combination of stylish yet informative and fun content . Watching your videos on repeat. ❤️ Love Choden , Sikkim(India)
Great video, Emma. Thank you. 🙏 It’s good to know which brands are the most ethical and offer value for money. 👍 I’ve been eyeing up that caramel turtleneck jumper from The Curated and I might have to take the plunge now 😍
excellent video Emma, thanks so much for the insight and ethical perspectives - really given me food for thought! ....bought my first two M&S cashmere sweaters on your recommendation - just lovely! x
I am glad you are considering animals when purchasing your products. I have recently started looking into wool, alpaca, cashmere etc production and was shocked by what I have discovered. Not sure if I would be comfortable buying those anymore.
Great, highly informative video Emma! Love the Arket sleeveless knit. I am a well seasoned #secondhandbutgrand buyer but I'm just starting my journey when it comes to any brand new purchases and I want to be much more informed. I'm already checking on the Good On You directory :) x
I don’t think I have had anything from Filippa K since the 90’s but I seem to remember they were quite good for us long legged ladies 😀 so I think I should have a look. I feel I also have a bit of a knitwear obsession since a few years back. Thanks for some great tips and advice 🤗
You did a video shot of the Johnston's of Elgin Cedar Hanger , But I think it is Very Important to add that if you are going to purchase a very expensive piece of wool knit wear, you should, most definitely, protect it with cedar or moth balls & if it is over a significant amount of time- make certain that the cedar & moth balls are still working. I lost numerous precious knitwear to moth holes & I am just heart broken! I had no idea that the cedar hangers needed to be "reactivated"!! I had them in storage while I was in a climate that did not require any knit usage. Just a heads up- I am slowly rebuilding my knitwear collection- but, as you know, it is an expensive endeavor! Norwegian wool & Peruvian alpaca are also Supreme!😘
Thank you for great content! Just a comment on what you say about alpacca grazing vs sheep. Sheep do not take up the roots of the grass, unless they are held in very small areas and have nothing to eat, but so will the alpacca!. In Norway as in other countries, most of the sheep are in the mountains during summer and autumn, where they contribute to biodiversity through their grazing, and when you think about sustainability, wool from your homecountry is far better than wool transported across the world. Just my 2 cents.
I have a few M&S cashmere pieces from a few years ago that I love but I have been really disappointed with the quality of the last couple of years. You can see in their reviews online that a lot of people feel the same, it seems they have changed their supplier and the cashmere is now quite thin and see-through so I’m now looking for a new source! Love the video as always 💕
THANK YOU! Being in the US, we have to order most of these amazing finds online. I adore knitwear & have a bit similar to the ones you just presented. Not the brands per se, but the stylings. Just not happy it has to be getting colder to wear them 😕
Hi! I enjoy watching your videos and do learn a lot from them. Is it possible for you to mention the size of the outfit you are wearing so I will have an idea of the brand’s sizing when I make an order from the website. Thank you! Looking forward to watching more videos from you!
Hey Emma, i‘m a viewer from Germany. I love love love your vid‘s! And i‘m also a big fan of knits. I don‘t know, if it‘s available in the UK too, but i can highly recomment everything from „hessnatur“ and the cashmere and merinowool range of „uniqlo“. They are my Favorite knit brands.
What a great video! I share your love of knitwear, especially slouchy oversized sweaters. Arket keeps teasing us in the US that they’re going to soon be available, but they’ve been saying that for years, so I haven’t been able to follow up on your suggestions yet. I recently bought a Johnstons of Elgin cashmere scarf after watching your video of your visit there, and it is truly lovely. I’m one of those people that can’t wear rough woolens next to my skin, but cashmere is just fine. Isn’t that handy? I’ve had good success with Naked Cashmere, though a bit pricey. I also love the knitwear from Babaa, a very sustainable Spanish company, as I’m sure you’re aware. I look forward to checking out Phillipa K if they ship to the US. Thank you for all the research and tips as anti-cruelty and sustainability are very important to me. I’m keeping an eye out for the new Emma x Curated blazers once you settle on the details! Oh, which reminds me, could you use your influence with The Curated and urge them to include a loose, oversized cashmere sweater in their collection? Would so love that! Oh, no, one more thing to your followers: Don’t ever dry clean anything. The process, at least in the US, is disgusting due to EPA regulations vis-a-vis disposal of chemicals, and ruinous for your clothing. Sorry for the length of this. ❤️
Love your videos! However, I can't agree on cashmere peeling. I'm a minimalist and I like to invest in quality over quantity. I had two turtlneck sweaters from a Swiss luxury department store brand (Bongenie Grieder) that haven't peeled at all in seven years. I wore those at least 200 times each, and they didn't changed sinse the day I bought them. No loss of shape, impeccable. When I got tired of them, I sold them on eBay. That's the quality I'm looking for in knitwear, but I must say it's extremely difficult to find these days. The store doesn't ship to the U.S., and I'm not sure if the quality is still the same.
Emma I have to write a second comment. If you love cashmere, you should check out Black Goat Cashmere. It’s a Canadian brand from Vancouver if I’m not mistaken. They are very pricey but the quality of their cashmere is incredible. I have a few pieces from them and I couldn’t be happier. Xoxo Alix
In Australia there are flies which lay their eggs in the wool and faeces , then the maggots eat away at the sheep , eating into it’s flesh. Mulsing prevents this - so. although mulsing doesn’t sound nice. I believe it is actually far preferable for the sheep than to have maggots eating them. I have friends with sheep on a farm, and they say that this fly strike is really horrible.
The level of effort you went into when discussing sustainability is exceptional and I greatly appreciate it!!!

excellent video Emma, thanks so much for the insight and ethical perspectives - really given me food for thought! ....bought my first two M&S cashmere sweaters on your recommendation - just lovely! x
I am glad you are considering animals when purchasing your products. I have recently started looking into wool, alpaca, cashmere etc production and was shocked by what I have discovered. Not sure if I would be comfortable buying those anymore.
This was sooo informational and interesting! Loved it xxx
Thank you for explaining RWS
Thank you Emma for this great informative video. We really appreciate your effort, love from Paris
Johnston of Elgin: a small collection is also available on Zalando.
Yes great tips! I didn't go into too much detail as I have a full caring for clothes video which I reference but it is important to note ❤️
Had no idea there was so much to consider - thanks 👍🏽
This was so informative! Thank you!
love yours advises!! Bravo Emma!!!greetings from southamerica!!
THANK YOU! Being in the US, we have to order most of these amazing finds online. I adore knitwear & have a bit similar to the ones you just presented. Not the brands per se, but the stylings.
Just not happy it has to be getting colder to wear them 😕
Thanks Emma! Brilliant information
Hi! I enjoy watching your videos and do learn a lot from them. Is it possible for you to mention the size of the outfit you are wearing so I will have an idea of the brand’s sizing when I make an order from the website. Thank you! Looking forward to watching more videos from you!
I learned so much in this video ! Thank you for the information 🧡
Hi Emma! Thank you for your video. My favorite brands are Arket and italian Falconeri.
The town is Hawick in Scottish Borders. Pronounced “Hoyick”. 😀
Thats the one - thank you ❤️🤣
Great video Emma, so informative.
Bamboo is a decent substitute for wool.
I know right, come on Arket! start shipping to the US 🤣 And yes JoE's cashmere is amazing. Simon also has one of their scarves and loves it ❤️
Thanks, Emma!! Wonderful video!!
Xoxo Alix
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for all the info and pointers. Learned some things 😊❤
Thank you for such an informative video!
Thanks for the amazing video, informative and inspiring 😄
Thank you for that video it was very useful!!
This is only half of the truth. Please educate yourself about mulesing and don't believe only, what friends are telling you 😊
