    I can't help but wonder if subconsciously, when Ricardo Montalban was rewatching "Space Seed" to prepare for "Wrath Of Khan" his mind remembered doing this episode with Madlyn Rhue as well and channeling that to bring out the rage of Khan over his wife's death in the final film.

    Ricardo was born in 1920. Bonanza premiered in 1959. It's second season in 1960, which would put his age here either 39 or 40. He looks much younger than that here at 2:10 .

    I didn't know till today that this episode mates Ricardo and Madlyn in this episode. They also play mates Khan and Marla in Star Trek "Space Seed." Here again, Marla's later death sets up one of the most famous Star Trek TOS movies, The Wrath of Khan, where Khan seeks to kill Captain Kirk for marooning them on a deserted planet and Marla dying.

      Yes, even a small but properly tended campfire will burn that skull down to a powdery ash. The key is keeping it in the flames, not buried under the ash and embers. Those saying it needs a better hotter fire are talkin shit. A campfire properly tended will easily burn steak bones, big heavy Elk & Moose bones... put it like this: if a big heavy elk bone burns to powder then a little thin human bone will burn just as well and they'll burn without a great big wasteful fire. A great way to get rid of evidence if that's the goal, hey we alll got our crazier responsibilities to 'deal with' from time to time haha!!

    This episode always gave me a bad vibe, something about the way they try to change Matsu and Atoya to be more like them. The stipulation for staying in their home was that they had to become more like the white man, tear down the teepee and build a cabin, cut his hair and change their clothes, it always just gave me an icky feeling. Like there was something inherently wrong with living or acting like an Indian. And the fact that it's the main characters making them do this, the characters we're supposed to like and root for, it just gives me a nasty feeling

      I totally understand and they addressed that to a certain degree. But it’s also showing that racism has many levels. From open arms w/o judgement like Ben, to “you should assimilate” from society at large, and the overt hatefulness of the neighbor.

    • @Zyrek1
      @Zyrek1 2 года назад +1

      I see your point, but I don't fully agree with it. They were outcasts from their tribes and had no where to turn. Ben offered them somewhere to belong, which is something they didn't have. He couldn't offer them a home like they were used to, because it wasn't something he knew or had the ability to do. I really don't think racism motivated him in the slightest. He wanted to give them a future the only way he knew how. It didn't work, and perhaps it was naive, and yes, by modern standards seems wrong. But this was a different time, and I think Ben was motivated by love, not racism, which is motivated by hatred.
