Great comparison. The P6k seems to hone in on what a filmmaker needs, and the Komodo has features that add value, of which the filmmaker may use on occasion, or not need them. The global shutter issue for shooting sports would be one of those must-have features for some, and thus a deal breaker. The Under 10k comparison, actually gives the 6k too much room to add expensive accessories, where for the same price as the Red one could add enough high-end components to diminish the utility of the Red at that same $8200 price point. An URSA mini G2 (with the $1000 EVF added) vs the Komodo would probably be a more fair comparison as the initial price point is about the same.

Very good and neutral comparison video. I know it takes a lot of time to compile all these shots and to sort of draw a conclusion. Thank you very much for investing the time, it helps us all and is a great documentation, too. // As a quick question: on the Komodo I can only use active microphones, meaning the camera does not output +48V phantom power unlike the bigger REDs?
Maybe I’m crazy, but in most footage I see the Komodo looks every “digital” where as I see very film like qualities in the Pocket 6k. I’m not sure why, or what about the image gives that feel but I can tell it’s there.
Thanks for watching and your comment. So the bmpcc has a very organic look which I really like. Not sure if it’s due to YT compression but I could definitely tell on my screen the Komodo has that look too. :)
You are experiencing the double softening fx of noise reduction in camera as well as the RUclips compression. You can quite easily create that look with R3D file by adding slight noise reduction which has a softening effect on the output which some may say is “filmic”. All a grading choice that is up to you either way. Lenses can amplify this as well. Photo lenses will make the image appear sharper/crisper while true cine lenses like alez or Cooke will make an image more pleasant and amplify more pleasant fall off. Keep in mind that you can also change the contrast and roll off of R3D file as well to taste.
Great comparison video Paule! What ISO did you use on the Komodo for the 120fps test. Maybe it was set too high? You can get a super clean image with a lower ISO setting. Even in very dark scenes.
