Never rode the M.M. But the Bamboo was always a favorite. It was better back in the 70's especially at night, but I guess everything is better when you're a kid. :) thanks for sharing!!!

I remember getting season pass every summer as a kid and you went to Krogers to buy it and then take the pic at Astroworld for your license or pass I should say.

Dude, now I remember going to Kroger with my girlfriend in 1986! LOL Thanks! Do you think Bamboo Shoot was designed by Viktor Shauberger?

The crazy part about that ride was it was a water ride and you didn't even get wet...unless you were going under the tidal wave at the exact same time the boat was coming around the curve and if you rode the ride you know what I'm talking about

I was scared to ride this when I was little because there was nothing to hold onto for the drop, which was BIG when you're little! I remember my big sister sitting in front of me and her head going into my open screaming mouth! LOL I will NEVER forget the feel of her scalp on my teeth!! LOL (biting your big sister in the head and getting away with it! YESSSSSS!💪Thanks Bamboo Shoot!!!! LOL)

omg it looks terrible but so did the entire place at this time by 1999 ghettoed out man what else can you say,now back in the early 80's it was clean and fun, parents dropped us off for all day with season passes and rode all the rides all day and night.this was a cool ride when it was hot,we would splash each other to cool off in the summer.good times gone

Kenny, thanks so much for posting this! I cut my teeth as a child at Astroworld, and the Bamboo Shoot was one of my very favorites... it looks a bit sad and tired in your video (with a lot of patching and stains) but I experienced it back in late 1979, and it was one of my favorites! Right there at the bottom of the last drop (from the walk by side) there used to be a "Kodak Picture Spot" and I can't tell you how many old Kodak photographs I have taken in front of those fiberglass "logs" coming down the flume in the background...
Thanks for bringing back so many great memories!
    [sorry - edited for grammar]

it looks like it was in sad shape didnt it,we were there in the super early 80's 82 or something and there werent any lines you could ride all of them,i went back in 98 or 99 and yea it was ghettoed out bad, lines were like 4 or 5 hrs long we left before we were mugged or shot for being there, but this was a fun ride for sure i liked all of them at night time the best, especially the cyclone back seat before they put huge bucket style seats.

@@onewheelup You know OneWheel, I don't think the downfall of Astroworld was due to the gangs (that was long after my time there!), but I think the park went downhill after the original Six Flags company bought it; they overbought a lot of parks, and all of them suffered because they didn't have proper funding or investment, improvements or anything to bring in the crowds with "SOMETHING NEW!" Instead the park languished, it drew in the "wrong crowd" and became "ghetto." I heard from friends that lived in Houston at the time (and were die-hard Astroworld fans) that they stopped going because it did become full of gangs and it became dangerous because the gangs knew they could mug a family solely because they would have cash in the park.
It burns in my soul that such an amazing place could fall downhill so hard. But I guess that's where we are today.
      Thanks!

@@atlbrysco6198 yea your 100 % right my friend.its sad for sure, hell everything now days in this once great nation is sad, hell just go buy a loaf of bread and some eggs and milk, eggs are almost 9 dollars.thanks to you know who,i grew up on the north side of houston,in high school i was the only white kid in half my classes my teachers felt sorry for me,but this was in the 80's times were different but still,i would be in class and hear some people talking saying, did you see the fight, and i would turn and say what fight who was fighting and they would say everytime it was two mexicans and one whiteboy, first off thats two cowards not a fight second i hate that word whiteboy more than anything,if you called them brown or black boy omg the news crew would show up and you would be labeled a nazi.and this still goes on in highschools today i hear.but anyways.i remember a time when you went in and pulled a curtain voted for who ever walked out and that was the end of it,now days omg i hate politics so bad how bad will it get before the end,i hate to spend my money stocking up on ammo but i guess i need to start before it gets even more expensive.i dont know,,,i guess we can try to keep hope alive for our future but as soon as we get someone in there to fix this country, their last desperate thing that they can think of is uh uh uh he's a racist because that card stays out now 24/7.
      take care friend.

That's strange because with the log ride it appeared houses were on the other side of the wooden fence like the ride was built in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. I'm pretty sure it isn't because I've been to Astroworld before.
