You are the first one to show how to hold the sticks and go over the moves slowly. Other videos don't show this and right away they start spinning the sticks and going super fast. To me this is not for first time beginners. Thank you. I learned a lot with you.
I agree in complimenting how things are shown slowly… this art seems to have many instructors who get their jollies going 100 miles an hour when explaining absolute basics… like way to go mate you’ve done this for 20 years I’ve been here 15 minutes go play Bruce Lee on yr time
I really want to thank you for your instruction on this. I live in NYC, and protecting yourself is limited. I know Goju-Ryu karate, but when your dealing with people who carry knives, clubs, bottles and such, one needs an extra edge, knowing to fight is good, but to carry something like a cane comes in quite useful in an emergency. These techniques are great, and can be applied with a cane. Please do more of them, your doing such a great service to people everywhere. Take care and God bless.
Thanks for your comments! Goju Ryu is an excellent karate style. And for an all-round effective and practical self-defense style for various situations including weapons, please check out our Krav Maga program: globalmartialarts.university/course/kravmaga/ Stay safe! :)
This class about Kali techniques is absolutely great and useful for personal defense, I like so very much, you are really amazing, thanks a million, congratulations.
Sticks are used to train back during the spanish conquest of the Philippines as a way to mask training. From what I heard, they used dance to also make the praactices discreet.
That’s cause it is the same striking pattern from modern Arnis. I use Kali as a blanket term for all FMA styles. But this specific pattern in the one mostly used in modern Arnis
Hi Tim ... Thanks for your question. The GMAU does not currently offer a Kali course. We're considering this for the future, though :) Have a great day!
I use a pool noodle, it's more tatical and the aerodynamic goes better, of course they all laugh at me but that is part of the strategy, tickling someone to death is the best strategy
Sorry, but the history behind it is the Spaniards banned Filipino from practicing their martial arts. They would confiscate anything that looked like a weapon. Short story Filipino came up with Arnis using cane and dancing to replace a traditional Filipino Martial Arts. Look up tinikling.
Want continuous posting Kali classes?

Great stuff. I'm always looking to provide good reference videos for my students to study outside of class. This is perfect.

We are trying to find the right instructor that can launch a full Kali course for the GMAU right now.
Very informative and easy to follow in small steps : )
Very good coach
I love Arnis/Kali, I have been studying some basic Arnis as part of my current training, It would be awesome if you added Kali as a course in GMAU
great video, thanks
Excellent content, just found your channel.

What martial art should I go to for karambit lessons? This one?
For karambit, check out Filipino Combat Systems (FCS kali)
@@LetsTrainMartialArts thanks!
what is better, fighting with one stick or two, what are the advantages and disadvantages?
1 is better for majority of people. Most people when double stick fight, the left stick just gets in the way and limits the movement of the right.
Exact same 12 strikes and blocks I have learned learned in Arnis.
That’s cause it is the same striking pattern from modern Arnis. I use Kali as a blanket term for all FMA styles. But this specific pattern in the one mostly used in modern Arnis
I you would use padded gloves to train with , you can get more realistic training distances.
Would it be helpful to mark the stick with a line to represent the blade edge?
That is a great idea to create more awareness for yourself.
Any plans for a Kali course?
Not right now, but we might launch one in the future. This was just a "bonus" class. ;)
is it the only Kali class on youtube? I can't seem to find more
It is the only one that we have on youtube right now.
@@GlobalMartialArtsUniversity looking forward to further classes
Do you mean for GMAU, or in general? My page has 200 Eskrima-Kali-Arnis classes
