Nice to see an audiophile channel talking up Warp. Their output easily matches the likes of Bluenote, Island etc. in terms of impact as a 'genre-based' label.
Glad you enjoy it!
All awesome albums, but Selected Ambient Works is something truly special. Must have listened to it a thousand times and it still touches my soul.
Aphex Twin is such an enigma, and he plays that so charmingly, yet his music is so refreshingly fresh.
Autechre is on a whole different level and much of their work has aged much better than the others! Thanks for the vid-
Great video Michael. Slip by Autechre is the most emotional electronica I’ve ever heard. I would have to put The Black Dog in there as well, hard to choose which LP as all there work is of a consistently high standard.
Great selection. Obviously a Warp fan.
My picks from the 90s that were influential to me were Shpongle's first and second album. They are great albums full of hypnotic, groovy multi genre tunes. Mixing genres like Latino and Opera, and it works. Great tunes.
Excellent content lately! Boards of Canada has become a part of my soul, specifically Music Has... Bravo!
Glad you enjoy it!
You hit the spot with the wonderful Nightmares On Wax and Boards Of Canada!
I can only offer digital reissues for "Smokers Delight", "Carboot Soul" and "Boards Of Canada", nonetheless, I enjoy them a lot.
Thanks for the selection Michael and greetings, George 👍
Toll Michael❤❤❤❤❤genau mein Musik Geschmack.
Thank you, Michael! Excellent video. Take care.
Glad you enjoyed it
He was brought up in a little town in Cornwall, England. Very near where I live. Aphex Twin is a bit of a genius in my eyes
I don't know how I overlooked Nightmares On Wax back in the 90s, what a great album! "Les Nuits" reminds me of "Air - All I Need".
Insides by Orbital is another great listen
Michael, those last few videos you put out were truly amazing. Your videos always were enjoyable, but those last ones felt really personal, and of course the music samples made them even better. Lots of great stuff to check out. Keep it up and take care!
Very cool music! Out of those, I really love Boards of Canada. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Your new format of demoing the music is making me buy more vinyl :)
Another top class video. Thank you.
Another program? So soon? You're spoiling us my fine Dusseldorf freund! Danke!
Music has the right to children is one of the few records you know will be an all time classic on the first listen. Astonishing.
Love the music/artists that Warp Records put out. My deep dive introduction into trip hop/electronic music was from Ninja Tune Records. Would love to see you do a video of 90's and 2000's artists from Ninja Tune
I really enjoyed that. I liked and subscribed as I intended to watch all your videos after this. Thank you.
Welcome :-)
Excellent video.... yes I have them all and your choices are certainly wonderful.
Michael, there's some much amazing 90s electronic music and a huge amount of it was released on the Warp label.
Some suggestions from me, which you may already have:
LFO (first or second LP),
Sabers Of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall,
Artificial Intelligence Compilation - Vol 1 & 2,
The Black Dog - Spanners
B12 - Electro-Soma
....if you haven't already got it, Nightmares On Wax - Smokers is Delight 100% essential!
Plaid is another notable Warp signing.
From the early 1980's to 90's experimental electronic music. I like it, and look forwards to more videos.
Carboot Soul marked the end of many many nights out for me during the 90s. It was always played as the sun was coming up and the realisation set in that it was time to go home and sleep off the night's excesses.
Stunning piece of music.
Killer video
Good start. There's also The Future Sound of London, The Orb, Bonobo - pretty influential stuff. IMO the '90s was the last/most recent great 'decade' for music...
True!
Kinobe just for Slip Into Something More Comfortable, Morcheeba if you’re moving into trip-hop, the list is endless. 90s was my era and I still love the music as I did back then, if anything I think I’ve come to appreciate it more
Boards of Canada were an early influential techno ambient band.
By the way ………… kaufe fast alles bei dir im online Shop Michael 🖖
Vielen Dank!!!
Yes Boards of Canada are incredible. Tri Repetae is my fave Autechre album
Hallo Michael,
DJSocki
Natürlich, Boards of Canada hatte ich oben nicht erwähnt.
Soooo eine geile Platte 👍👍👍👍👍
I had a had a hard time getting into 90s electronic music, i like it better today than then. But there was one album that for me is a 90s classic and that is ofc Daft Punk’s Homework. I remember it being released WOW what an amazing album.
I like this channel.
I Love 80s music on vinyl, I collect 7” singles as well as 12”
I bought the 30th Oak box of Aphex Twins Ambient Works vol II, it’s the pinnacle of box sets to date, so unique. I love that album so much and couldn’t resist.
I would argue that the first Orb record was as influential as any of these 4 albums.
Orb Ufo
Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld is their first album. I remember buying it in HMV like it was yesterday.
THE soundtrack of EVERY post rave / club chill out session for years.
In our record shop, back in those days, we had all the dance music sectioned off by genre and sub genre....
..yet everyone, no matter which section/s they were buying from, ALL OF THEM bought the Orb L.P.
We sold an absolute shit ton of them.
I still have a bunch of Orb's label, WAU! Mr Modo, white labels of their gentle, playful electronica. They were a quietly influential label....I mean, how could they not be when you've got Patterson and Youth and Sheffield's Adam Morris selecting what could be called the pre-curser to Intelligent Techno after a few pure Acid Ravey kinda tunes as well as their Dub output.
Thomas Felhmann's genius pristine engineering stemming from the 1986 release of "Ready Made" came to WAU! with the Euro Breaks project and then...oooowwft!...
...Sun Electric. O' Loco and everything that came after on R&S / Apollo. The "Kitchen" album still gets regular spins round my place. Right up there with Autechre and Aphex for a "different" audio journey.
WAU! also released Youths first forays into the then new Acid House.
How about Muarizio from Basic Channel / Rhythm & Sound fame getting his 1st track remixed and released on WAU! .. Ploy. Yup...WAU!'s influence runs deep.....them putting out Dub stuff too and Maurizio later becoming and absolute dub legend himself.....who woulda thunk it?
...well...that was a tangent !...
The Orb...awesome.
heh heh
Sun Electric. "Sarotti"
ruclips.net/video/kVHj1O4MWAQ/видео.htmlsi=i3Dc4hhUzek-fp63
Maurizio. Ploy. Battersea was an Island of Mud Orb remix.
ruclips.net/video/Q6mMOSPss4s/видео.htmlsi=d06_xqJo3hJU5BxD
Cooles Video.
I love the Aphix Twin album and Nightmares on Wax. Boards of Canada and Autechre…. I have to listen to their albums again. The sound samples are great. Thanx, Michael. 👌
Rock on!
Nightmares on Wax are amazing! As are Kruder & Dorfmeister, together or solo. Or Air. Or Thievery Corporation. Great music.
Global Communication 76:14 was another huge 90s release - certainly worth checking them out
Tschüss Michael, thank you for the video. Don't forget the influences from the Parisian label, F Communication, bringing us Laurent Garnier, St-Germain, Shazz, Nova Nova, Bob Sinclar and so forth, who had a big influence on the electronic scene in the 90's as well.
Boards of Canada is just on another level for me
I'd give a nod to Carl Craig's Landcruising album. Something very special about it.
I was a big fan, consumer of Electronic music back in the 70s and 80s. A friend suggested I might like Aphex Twin at some point in the 90's. I listened- ''what is this meandering, vacuous. non-human...noise' my respnse to it.
I knew two and learned about two (Although I knew Autechre from the Artificial Intelligence series). Hard to go wrong with anything on the WARP label!
Love these albums❤. Autechre were so musical in the 90s. I feel like they've lost some of that.
Once you get to the 2000s... we need the K+D Sessions (the 6LP box set ;-) )
Amazing music, Michael. I prefer Smoker’s Delight but it’s hardly worth mentioning. As you said, the entire Nightmares On Wax catalog is essential listening. I got lucky with Music Has the Right to Children and grabbed an original from the used bin. Can you imagine? lol. Four brilliant records. Danke.
Apollo Records was R&S Records Gent Belgium. Renaat Van de Populiere
A man after my own heart. I have collected WARP records and Designers Republic artwork since their founding. Do you like Susumu Yokota? And an often overlooked early Warp release. Speedy J Ginger.
Surfing on Sine Waves by Polygon Window (Aphex Twin) is a great companion to Ambient Works - I believe most of the tracks were mastered from audio tape which gives it a lot of it's character. Music Has the Right to Children is amazing transcendent stuff - Campfire Headphase is also untouchable for me. Amber is lovely the early Autechre is the best for me.
Thank you for the video and like others have said, the included sound clips are an excellent addition.
We were spoiled here in the UK during this period. Quality music being produced everywhere and you could go and see these guys play every week. One night LTJ Bukem, the next DJ Food. It was varied and someone for everyone. Great times.
Boards of Canada would not get anywhere near my top 100. So very, very dull. All subjective of course.
Geil!!
DANKE.
😂😂😂reminds me to High fidelity and the two Skater,s..
I never really understood why Selected Ambient Works is considered so much greater than Aphex Twin’s other albums. I think he’s since done even better work.
Didn't you get Selected Ambient Works II? This was a huge reissue given that the original was extremely noisy. Also it's musically more complex and interesting than his first album.
Endtroducing.. - K&D Session
What's your favorite Autechre Michael? Anyone? I love Tri Repetae.
I like to think of Aphex twin as Debussy and Autechre as Ravel. Aphex Twin/Debussy are more playful, Autechre/Ravel more mechanical.
can anyone confirm that Xtal was being recorded on new years eve 1990 ?
🤷♂️
Moin,
Wirklich.
Original Nutta, (jungle) das hat damals Eingeschlagen.
Epik - driver (the blob) [cnb001] war wegweisend.
The future sound of London - papa new Guinea
B. B. E.: Seven days and one week
B. B. E.: Flash
Legend B - lost in love
Ramon pyx - alone. (nuzzle track! ) Das letzte Drittel, der basic beat... Das haben die DJs geliebt. Kein paramount Park main floor Samstag ohne.
Epidemic - exit EEE daddy cool remix.
So einfach.
AWeX - it's our future.
Sjef & Sjaak - Gearbox (original mix)
JX - you belong to me (no respect remix)
Asterix - turn in, tune in, drop out
Fahr halt mal hin.
Dazu gehört unbedingt : x-dream our own Happiness
Und etwas zu Down beat :
Visit venus...!
Electronic : automat - automat
@michael45RPM
No Orbital and no Prodigy?
Boards of Canada hatten ein schönes "nebenprojekt": hell interface. Anspieltip: Midas Touch. ruclips.net/video/gDmaBlUL7Ns/видео.html
Danke für die Info
None of those did anything for me. The 2nd one was okay but, it just repeating the same thing over and over. I'm more interested in Tangerine Dream, Synergy, Solar Quest, Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, The Orb, Enigma, Deep Forest, Software, White Noise, Fifty Foot Hose, etc..
ENGLAND 3 : SCOTLAND 1 😅 YAAASSS! 😂
