Roberto Duran - Is a Panamanian former professional boxer who competed from 1968 to 2001. He held world championships in four weight classes: lightweight, welterweight, light middleweight and middleweight, as well as reigns as the undisputed and lineal lightweight champion, and the lineal welterweight champion. Durán was known as a versatile, technical brawler and pressure fighter, which earned him the nickname of "Mano de Piedra" ("Hand of Stone") for his formidable punching power and excellent defense. In 2002, Durán was voted by The Ring magazine as the fifth greatest fighter of the last 80 years. Durán ended his career with a professional record of 119 fights, 103 wins, and 70 knockouts. From May 1971 up until his second fight against Sugar Ray Leonard in November 1980, as well as in his fight against Wilfred Benítez in January 1982, Durán was trained by legendary boxing trainer Ray Arcel.

One of the greatest fighters in boxing history! While Roberto Duran is remembered for his incredible inside game and offensive abilities, his defensive skills were also exceptional. This played a major role when he got older as he had to use all of his guile and experience against much bigger and physically stronger champions like Iran Barkley and Davey Moore. Living legend Hands of Stone past his prime but still great! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod
He was a complete fighter he could box. He could punch the greatest lightweight, in boxing history, and one of the pound 4 pound greats

The “Defensive Skills Past His Prime” is crazy. The longevity Duran had as a boxer is a testament to both his IQ and GOAT talent. I believe Duran even said he believes Floyd took some of his defense from him and Floyd speaks highly of him as well.
Yeah
Floyd, the guy who popularized the importance of being "undefeated" and has bashed many boxers who have a lot of losses always praisef Duran and never talked about his losses
That's a testament to how great he was that even Floyd didn't care about his double digit losses and yet some "fand" will always bring up no mas 😂
Floyd rates roberto duran as the best fighter ever.
Roberto duran sits on number 2 on his personal list. Ofcourse floyd himself is number 1. 😂
@@wtfgebeurdmij2991Floyd Mayweather is the greatest on his era with Manny Pacquiao being the second greatest behind Mayweather. When it comes to the best boxer in history, Floyd is only just trying to make the fans mad
Its crazy how Duran was mostly flat footed when unleashing those HANDS OF STONE. Yet he was quick to switch to his toes and manuvuer himself out of the way. Incredible. His footwork is criminally underrated. Even the way he stalked opponents at time, like a zombie, gave opponents a false sense of being able to catch him. They quickly got countered or found themselves on the ropes by Durans own phenomenal footwork.
And Duran can do rope a dope himself,he manipulates his opponents to think he's done on the ropes then blast away, only people to not get affected is Tommy, and that's because of Tommy's freaky genetics with style too
Been going to the boxing hall of fame for the kast 20 years, finally got to meet this guy over the weekend. Him and Vinny Paz were sitting next to eachother. Both looked great
Kast?
@@hellwalker9356 it’s called a typo. If you can’t deduce that his finger slipped on the keyboard and accidentally struck a “K” instead of a “P,” then I’m seriously concerned for the survival of our species.
@@LobotomyMeat bro ik I'm just having fun. Oh and btw there are people who are actually way way dumber than me. If you think I'm dumb... just wait till you see other people
Duran's pull counter of Barkley is so astonishing for a fighter with so many years and battles behind him...
A thing of beauty

Probably this one
There are defensive fighters, who fight on their back foot, try to keep the distance, not taking many risks... The amazing thing about Duran is how good his defence was while being such an aggressive pressure fighter, looking to get inside and punish you at the short-range. One of the best ever.
100%
How unbelieveably comfortable he was in the ring...and better against killers that wanted to take his head off. A master of the sport.
Always fighting bigger & younger guys. He was fearless.
He always needed a challenge. Then he was at his best!
You're not a fanboy but a fan of the sport. Thank you for another gem for us lovers of boxing to enjoy for years to come.
The greatest!
Man was born to fight
Best lightweight ever right here 🫵🏾
One of the greatest
Arguably the greatest fighter Alive.
Manos de Piedra
One of the most trickiest fighters ever!
Absolute Mastery!
Duran is a legend. Defense and power as well as skilled with his punches. His a building block to dirty boxing in mma.
How could you not like this !
Duran is a bit like wine the older he got the nicer he became 🥊
Haha I like that!
Even though he was past his prime, Duran still had his defense in him that made him look great on a long run.
Fearless
Always within opponents fighting rage. But totally no fucks given. What a legend.
The greatest
Duran in the Cuevas fight was still very much in his prime. Duran by the time he fought Barkley was pretty much done yet he still fought 11 more years. It is crazy really
Duran had one of the highest Boxing IQ's in the history of the sport! His instinct to slip punches by a small margin was unbelievable. In my opinion the most complete fighter there ever was when in his prime. His offense , defense, savageness, and his resume solidify him as an all time great!
Huge thank u for this. Roberto Duran is my favroite boxer. I would like to meet him one day. He seems like a really down to earth person.
Top 6 greatest boxers of all time, alongside Armstrong, Greb, Ezzard Charles, Sugar Ray Robinson and Langford
Great list!
You could throw in someone post Korean War... 🙃
I like his run at 135 lbs and the Carlos palomino bout and leanord 1 that was vintage duran
Add the Moore fight as well
It’s incredible that most of Durans more well known fights/victories came after his legendary light weight career (71-1)
the best 🥊
He was such an artist! Thanks for the video, I learned so much from this channel. No one captures the beauty of boxing the way you do it. Cheers!
Thanks bud I appreciate that!
The best chanel in the history
Hanzagod ❤️🥊

The difference is that although it was passed his physical prime, as he got older WAS his defensive prime.
As he became older, slower, and heavier he relied far less on speed and relentless mauling, and begin relying far more on timing, defense and masterful counter punching with precision and positioning himself correctly to accomplish it.
Beautiful Boxing 👏
The best
Great video idea. I've actually been studying fighters who continued to display excellence past their physical prime (Archie Moore, Bernard Hopkins etc). Duran is definitely a special fighter
🐐🐐🐐
Master at Rolling with the Punches
Brilliant…DURAN…..one of THE BEST OF ALL-TIME…..
Duran is one of my favourite boxers period. Makes me sad im 6ft 2 and can probably never fight like him on the inside haha
A wizard
You are in my head it seems.
Duran montage right after smoking joe montage.
Both are my top 2 favorite boxers of all time.
How are you doing this?!?!
Magic!
@@hanzagod
Now prove your magic and make a jack Dempsey / Jack Johnson montage.
😍
@@dennit1221 I've got multiple of both already just check the channel!
Grest stuff, thanks. It never ceases to amaze me how he could beat someone the size of Barkley; although how Barkley ever got down to middleweight is also a mystery.
He looked like a Light-Heavyweight in there
He actually weighed in heavy and had to go shed more weight lol Duran probably legit said "who gives a fuck, I'll still fight him" lol
The man the myth the saint ❤ Infighting died with his retirement, LING LIVE THE KING
He'd probably still be fighting today if they hadn't forced him to retire
Lol honestly, I can think of very few fighters who are genuinely having the time of their life in the ring, and Duran is probably topmost among them
Cholo panameño de raza muy valiente

@@hanzagod no pressure, but it will be awesome 🔥
Thanks for you hard work
Another great highlight video as usual! Out of curiosity how many hours of boxing do you watch per week? I imagine it would be quite substantial
Thanks! I'm not sure of the exact number haha but you're definitely right it's substantial. That's the way it's been for me for the last 8-9 years or so.
@@hanzagod Do you box yourself? if so, I'd be curious to see some footage :)
@@SouthpawJoe Sorry to disappoint but no I don't. I'd have put a little amateur package together of myself if I did haha
His prime ended in 1978
Even past his prime still better 90% of the fighters that followed him
While he differed stylistically he had parallels with Mike tyson in using defense to create offensive opportunities so slick and yet savage
Tyson has stated in many occasions that Duran had a big influence on him. He has said that he idolized Ali as a personality, but he loved Duran's style and street attitude and he could identify more with him.
My 2nd favorite fighter
Who's your favorite?

Better than Floyd's defense I'll tell you that (no running, hugging, or hiding behind the shoulder)
Floyd was a better defensive fighter lol, just not as exciting.Duran shoulder rolled a lot too and used the clinch. He moved aswell.
@@sergioflores9246 Thank you for correcting this. They're all tactics to get away from punches. Nobody's gonna stand there and let you hit them all day.
@@sergioflores9246 I agree that Floyd has better defense but I truly believe Duran beats anyone ever at lightweight including Floyd.

apparently overweighted in his last years…
Can u do more mike mc Callum highlights this guy flat out dcked him in 1991 he drew with lights out Toney who smashed up Iran Barkley the blade couldn't beat mc Callum when he was 35 yrs old Toney was 23 it was a draw Duran also vacated instead of fighting MC Callum at 154 lbs..Duran great fighter but if they fought at 154-160 he's getting skooled imo
