It honestly kinda makes sense to have a long-ass cord to connect the console to the TV. You don't have to get up to switch cartridges or twiddle the buttons on the console.
Actually, I bet that's a technological limitation. TV signals are designed to go long distances. If the controller cables were long, they'd have to do extra work to stop radio signals from moving the player thingies around.

I'm 25, and my dad is 51. My dad was 8 going on 9 years old when this console was released. He dusted off the Odyssey from the attic and played it with a friend when he was about 14, and he said it was outdated crap even back then. This is our great-grandparent's electronic board game console.
You didn't even program games for it, per se. it existed before the days of ROM cartridges, so the different games were just circuit boards that changed the wiring to make different objects appear on-screen and to change how it registers input.

In computer programming we had the task of choosing a famous inventor and invention to write a 1 page biography about. I chose Ralph Baer and his work on the Odyssey, which I wouldn't of known about if not for the AVGN, moral of the story is the Nerd is good for education.
A bit of a disappointment, Odyssey promised big open sandbox-style worlds, and and intriging Capture mechanic. This looks like it came from the early Eighties or late Seventies. It dosen't even plug into the Switch, I mean come on.

When he started the N64 was only 8 years old, the Xbox is more than 15 years old now. Over time, he'll slowly do more and more games from the 6th Gen and on.

The Odyssey was actually manufactured in my own hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Magnavox used to be headquartered. While the company is long gone, the road that ran next to the factory is still in use by other businesses today. And though most of my fellow citizens have no idea why the road is named what it is, the street sign on Magnavox Way still stands to this day as a proud reminder of the humble, yet noteworthy contribution my hometown made to videogame history.

This is probably one of my favorite episodes. It's amazing to see how games went from two lines and a projection sheet on the screen to hi-def graphics. Also, its weird to see the Nerd in a good mood. Well, good for his standards.
If you really want to go deep in the rabbit hole, I guess you can say it's a pump action rifle, probably chambered in .22 or .357, because the mag tube looks too thin to be a shotgun. Also it has an adjustable rear iron sight, which are more common on rifles, as for shotguns are more common with fixed rear iron sights...

This is probably one of my favorite episodes. It's amazing to see how games went from two lines and a projection sheet on the screen to hi-def graphics. Also, its weird to see the Nerd in a good mood. Well, good for his standards.

If you really want to go deep in the rabbit hole, I guess you can say it's a pump action rifle, probably chambered in .22 or .357, because the mag tube looks too thin to be a shotgun. Also it has an adjustable rear iron sight, which are more common on rifles, as for shotguns are more common with fixed rear iron sights...

Thank you Ralph Baer for your Pioneering work you have done to make gaming where it is today. I'm glad that I owned a Odyssey as a young kid. We can only hope for one day to stop our discussions about what is the best console is, or who is the master race in gaming.
Cause without you sir there gaming wouldn't have taken off like it has.
