A drivers license costs 110 dollars, then you can get a crapbox for around 900. That's one months rent just to get me started. Not to mention Car insurance is needed where I live. The only people who are out of the house at 18 are people with rich mommy and daddys.

I'm 44 y/o now and if I could advise myself at 18 this would be it:
1) understand that work is not just about earning money, work also gives your life structure, and that’s critical when you’re stepping into independence. You need structure to organize your day, force yourself to get out of bed, and stay on track. If you let things fall apart-sleeping all day, neglecting your duties-you’ll spiral into a mess.
2) learn how to manage your finances. This is one of the most basic yet often failed aspects of independence. You need to budget. If you spend more than you earn, you’ll be stuck in a perpetual cycle of debt and reliance on others. You need to be able to save, to invest, and to control your impulses. Independence means that no one is there to bail you out when you make mistakes, so you need to be disciplined in your spending and saving habits.
3) You need to develop competence in basic life skills-things like cooking, cleaning, paying bills on time, and maintaining your living space. These are small but necessary tasks that contribute to your overall self-sufficiency. Without mastering the basics, you can’t expect to become a fully functioning, independent adult.
4) independence doesn’t mean isolation. You need a community-a network of friends, mentors, and colleagues who can support you, offer advice, and challenge you to grow.
