This was a very strong portfolio, I'm not surprised that you got accepted to all the schools you applied to. This video is also great advice, because it is true that art colleges look for potential rather than fully accomplished artists and it's always best to show the variety of stuff that you can do, both fast and more elaborate pieces and you should show what makes you unique. She said it was about traveling in space and I immediately rewinded and paused the video so I could read the picture, and all I saw was "So long, and thanks." and that's all I needed to see to know that it was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I swear I was paying attention to what you were saying but I couldn't resist looking at how happy your fluffy cat was when you were giving scratches. You art is beyond this world.

For Parsons Fashion Design, just remember, Creativity not Technique, Express yourself not your skill. It is totally fine if you have never sew a single piece of cloth in your life, you are there to learn. Fashion design does not have to be a topic or theme of your portfolio, it is about who you are.
If you have to draw this well to get in to art school, what do you actually learn IN the art school? I mean this looks like an effect of some hard learning, not like an introduction to learning.
I mean everyone starts our differently. I feel like RISD is more for established fine arts skills, I go to scad and you have to take basic classes and hone your skills. Not everyone has the same opportunities in high school and it's necessary to have the credentials in the art world.
I don't think so, since I have a friend who decided junior year that she wanted to apply to art schools as well and built up her portfolio independently. Throughout high school she didn't take any art courses in school, and she submit her art portfolio as got into Parsons a few weeks ago. (I should say though that her IB grades are excellent, although not in any art classes since she didn't take any, and I don't know how that impacts an application)
Kenzie Kandy hey, this is random but I’m considering applying to scad and was wondering if you’d recommend it and how to get in and how to pay for it and all that
Depends on what you mean by „well“. In case you mean hyper realistic.. for European standards that’s boring actually. The first drawing of the bike would be impressive because of the skill but if she only had stuff like that in her portfolio it might not make it. If you mean well as interesting, refreshing and creative then yes. From what I’ve noticed American art schools are more into realism tho so mayhaps.
Tbh your not expected to do SO good, but yeah, RISD expects you to do good in your art. Technically if you don’t know advanced stuff how are colleges like RISD gonna teach you??
it's incredible how beautiful your work is, i mean i loved every single one of them and yet they were so different please continue because you're doing amazing and i can definitely feel that you have a great future ahead of you!!!
I am a SCAD alumi hoping to give advice. Applying to several art colleges all differ so before you start your portfolio make sure you read the guidlines and requirements for the department you are interested in. Some may not need a portfolio but it is good to submit for scholarships. Also it helps to talk to your school teacher about it, they could mentor you along the way. Most colleges nowadays accept digital portfolios which is a lot easier than sending physical artwork that you may not be able to get back or pick up. A common portfolio requirement is about 10-20 art pieces. Some may require for example 5 pieces demonstrating traditional skills from observation drawings. Your portfolio needs to contain perspective and basic understanding of the elements of art. It is okay to have some creative pieces but do not overwhelm your portfolio with too many things. Always use your best artwork. Include what is required because it is strict and when it does not follow the rules it will be in the reject pile. Schools sift through hundreds of applications and mistakes like this makes it easier to get through the rest. They also want pieces that show your personality and creativity which is a great way to make experimental art. Do not worry about "style" because it will be too much of a block for growth. The link below is a great source for applying to art colleges. I hope this helps :) blog.prepscholar.com/how-to-make-an-art-portfolio

oh dang i didn't know you went to my school! i loved seeing your bicycle art at the school art showcase! :) plus your little aesthetic drawings at 5:30 were my favorite (i took pictures of them on my phone at the showcase)
I've been following you for a while now and i casually came back to this video today. I love to notice how your art has evolved but mostly, i like to see how your visual language/style was already starting to be seen through these pieces. I don't really know Anabelle, but it has given me so much peace and it has been really inspiring to virtually see your growth and struggles these years, when I wanted to quit on art/design, watching you helped me to not do it. If you ever read this, i send you a big hug from Mexico :)
This is crazy and exactly the kind of art I think is so amazing and resonates with me the most. Your art is full of personaltiy and so creative and unique, I'm glad you were in my recommended!
Okay so first off, your cats are ADORABLE. Secondly, I am so incredibly happy and thankful I came across this video of yours. It's been three months after about 2 years of not really doing art... (I did a few stupid paintings right when summer started). Today, I saw a photo of one of my model friends which instantly inspired me to draw her body. I did and I felt all inspired to draw all over again. After watching this, my fingers feel like they need to work NOW. Your pieces are so creative!! I'm so inspired right now. Your art is wonderful!!
You are so talented! My absolute favorite is "the space on your wall" (i really wish i could hang that on MY wall), followed by the girl sleeping in the waves and the deer :)
Wow! You are mind blowing. Not only is your art out of this world fantastic but you are extremely articulate, which is not a skill many artists have. You will have an epic career for sure. Keep up the phenomenal work girl. Much love.
I'm so glad I watched this. Your video helped me a lot. Last year, I took an art school test entrance in my country and I got accepted! I want to tell you that your artworks are splendid. My favorite is the bicycle one. So many details on it! Amazing!
woah. i'm so amazed by your work, not only your skills but your creative thinking is amazing, i think the art work is very unique and i like the kind of "vibe" that your art has. I'm a junior in high school and i want to major in graphic design in college. I'm planning on applying to RISD, do you think i should i start working on my portfolio now? any tips for a young artist 🙏🏼 thank you so so much you're amazing
thank you! If you are a junior, try to get into the mindset that everything creative you do, it applies to your future. So when you do art, work hard to make it something that you may or may not use in your portfolio. When you do apply, they give you up to 20 pieces to submit, and many times the more work you put the better. And waiting until the last year will be stressful on you to produce that many! Just get into the mindset now, but you don't quite have to stress out yet. :-)
OH MY...its too amazing to put in words. its great that you have a passion for small intricate designs and illustration, your unbelievably creative and talented.
The painting of the girl sleeping on the ocean can be considered to represent « realismo magico », the idea of mixing something beautiful and magic-like, with a daily action. The idea was created by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
i was looking around youtube to see what a strong portfolio should look like, as i wanted to apply in an art school as well, but seeing your work makes me reconsider my carrier choice.. You're amazing and your art is too !
I have two questions that I've been worrying over: 1) Do you think that your ACT/SAT scores had a major impact in the application process? 2) I post a lot of my original art online, a lot of which, I'm very proud of. Would I get in trouble for submitting some of these pieces? 3) Also, I've been wanting to do some studies based on figure skating videos since I don't have access to models and my friends are all busy with their own classes. Would that be fine? Sorry if you've already answered any of these!! But thank you in advance!
I think my ACT scores only impacted my scholarship! I don't think it determines my application, unless I mean if i got like a 0 or something haha. I don't think you will get in trouble for anything as long as it is originally yours. Hopefully the ones you posted online has some sort of mark or signature, so in the event that someone has seen it, they know that you are the artist. It's really common for students to put their work online so I don't think it is a threat! Also, i don't think the figure skating thing is a problem. for all i know, they can't tell whether or not you took the photos yourself or not, as long as it doesn't literally look like you just replicated some photograph from online and the model's hair and face features are identical and all. Since they are studies, I think it would be interesting as long as you make it very conceptual and not just copying. Hope it helps! I will make a video soon talking about applications :-) watch out for that.
Aaaaa thank you so much! This took a lot of stress off o me. I've watermarked all of my work (minus the ones i use as icons/headers, but there are watermaked versions of those too) would it be better if I submit the non watermarked versions to take off bias or the watermarked versions to indicate that it's mine?
Definitely submit the unmarked ones. They will assume that it is yours unless critical evidence suggests otherwise. But since your online ones are marked, it's no problem!
I really enjoy those frenetic ink drawings of animals and foliage. it's got this energy to it despite the lack of negative space where the eye can rest
I'M OBSESSED WITH YOU. You are drop dead gorgeous, first of all. And secondly, you are SO talented. There are pieces that I could imagine around my house (the bike, the deer, the 3 "spaces"). You're amazing, girl. :)
I have an art project of choice to do at the end of the year and your bike drawing has inspired me to include lots of details in my project! Also, your cat painting inspired me to maybe do my project on my dogs but with colorful colors, not just neutrals. It would just be a really fun piece. Thanks for the inspo! This project is going to turn out great!
Wow u gave me inspirations i admire your work so much. Literally ive been doing my portfolio for Fashion since i plan to apply for unis this year and ive got interviews and the way u use different media and techniques in your creations gave me a boost to try explore more as i can
wow your work is absolutely amazing, I love the bike drawing because you can tell how much work was spent and I love how you chose to "disguise" the bike in a kind of way . I'm thinking of applying to an art school this year and this video helped alot! Great work
Most of my traditional skills were refined in classes, because my sister and I took art classes for fun (before we knew we wanted to do art). But all my creative works are definitely self taught, and that is actually more important than the foundation skills. xD
I am an art student also although unfortunately i am not going to an art school due to financial reasons so I didn't even bother applying to any :(( but i absolutely love your art and style!! congrats on getting into RISD!
first of all thank you! And second of all, it's great to hear that you are still striving to do what you love despite the challenges. its SO worth it! I definitely wouldn't be able to attend RISD if it weren't for my scholarship. hard work really does pay off- I hope you achieve your hopes and dreams 💗💕💗
zinab2blessa you do not have to have any talent in any thing, the only way to be good in anything is to practice for what you want. If you have the passion, drive, and ambition you can learn anything from practice. Talent, while people have it, isn't necessarily needed. Especially when it comes to art.
I gasped at pretty much all of your art because it blew me away You've heard it before, but your talent is outstanding and I am aaalways immpressed love it A!
Well I don't ever plan on going to art school or pursuing it as a career but it's nice to meet an artist older and more experienced and successful than you knowing how similar they are to you: you're the first artist I've seen who prefers drawing with pens, does not really draw to look at but admire mostly for your satisfaction(does that make sense, I do that at least) spontaneously turns doodles and thoughts into serious formal pieces. Similar to myself so I admire and respect you and your cool art :)
Hi! Your portfolio are fantastic and you're so talented. I also have some questions that I hope you can answer? RISD is very expensive and I'm hoping to get a full or at least 80% scholarship. Do you know how hard it will be? Thank you
A handful of people I know have gotten around 60-70 percent, and i believe it's mainly based on your financial circumstance. Having a sibling also in college for example, etc. Merit definitely is another factor, so if you have excellent grades and an impressive portfolio, it is very helpful! But I haven't met anyone who did not need any loans or got a full ride yet.
Are those handful of people international or residents? Because when I emailed RISD about international scholarships they responded that there is NONE for international applicants. I'm really torn here. Thank you
I just discovered your channel....and omg do you actually know how talented you are?!?!?! I admired and loved every piece you showed in this video! Keep on working hard, it's gonna be worth it! Xxx
And by the way: I'm excited that you're going to college now so that we can actually see you doing art! Show your processes - that would be interesting!
I love this whole video , it was so important for me to know that I have to start being more creative and not just copy things. Even though having a basis is still good, I have to start thinking from my mind.
That sea turtle one is so gorgeous, I would hang that on my wall. And the deer one! And the bicycle one! Honestly, you should start an Etsy/website/put your art out here because I am obsessed and would pay money for prints of them.
your pen work is amazing! i got accepted to an art college for fine arts recently and im excited but nervous :) good luck to anyone reading this who intend to pursue art!
I started painting in April and have been an insecure person my entire life - but when it comes to art, I don’t find myself being discouraged or feeling like my work is crap compared to others. Everyone’s art, techniques, style, schemes and feels etc are SO DIFFERENT. Art is so personal. I see so many people putting themselves down in the comments. Don’t look at her art and put yourself down, use it to fuel your inspiration and motivation to create! Well done, girlfriend. You are so talented. 🤩🎨

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!
audrenes I am most likely wrong, but is Yuri on Ice the reason you want to daw ice skating?
Girl, it's 3 AM here in Brazil. I got up thinking "whaat? Sunlight already?", but it's your bright so bright future. Your work is AMAZING!
I'm not so amazing when it comes to art, but I really want to go to RISD. Judging from your portfolio and what you said I have a crazy long way to go.
I legit want to buy your art, can I?
I really enjoy those frenetic ink drawings of animals and foliage. it's got this energy to it despite the lack of negative space where the eye can rest
Most of your entrance work is superb and shows lots of creativity, no wonder you were accepted into all 3 schools. Best, Lewis
10:43 *low key pulls* she really doesn't want the cat to leave lol. You're so talented, loved your work. ❤️
I'M OBSESSED WITH YOU. You are drop dead gorgeous, first of all. And secondly, you are SO talented. There are pieces that I could imagine around my house (the bike, the deer, the 3 "spaces"). You're amazing, girl. :)
omg the cats in the background are too funny. love them
I have an art project of choice to do at the end of the year and your bike drawing has inspired me to include lots of details in my project! Also, your cat painting inspired me to maybe do my project on my dogs but with colorful colors, not just neutrals. It would just be a really fun piece. Thanks for the inspo! This project is going to turn out great!
This video appeared in my recommendations list! So glad it did, your artwork is breathtaking! Thank you for sharing your talents with us! :)
You're art is insane! I feel as if I saw it in a gallery I would have to spend so much time bc the detail is extraordinary you are so talented
holy crap that bicycle one is unreal
hey congrats on graduating! i’m rewatching this vid because i’m applying to art school next year:)
Great work
These pieces are fantastic! Are you self taught or did you take a class?
Most of my traditional skills were refined in classes, because my sister and I took art classes for fun (before we knew we wanted to do art). But all my creative works are definitely self taught, and that is actually more important than the foundation skills. xD
***** Oh cool! I've been self taught up until now. I feel like taking a class will help push me a bit, also, thanks for answering!
no problem! :-)
Your bicycle drawing is amazing! Really like it, all the details and the trick to the eye that forces the viewer to search for it :D
I am an art student also although unfortunately i am not going to an art school due to financial reasons so I didn't even bother applying to any :(( but i absolutely love your art and style!! congrats on getting into RISD!
sorry to hear that, you could always try an affordable college and major in Art. not sure if it will be the same though. hope all works out.
I am actually going a double major with graphic design at the college im going to this year :))
that's great :)))
first of all thank you! And second of all, it's great to hear that you are still striving to do what you love despite the challenges. its SO worth it! I definitely wouldn't be able to attend RISD if it weren't for my scholarship. hard work really does pay off- I hope you achieve your hopes and dreams 💗💕💗
thank u so much
Oh my god the bike piece is so gorgeous and I love the living space and blackout poem ones.
Man your art is so gorgeous.
wow. how did you learn to draw like that
also what major is this for? fine arts?
How do you learn to do anything?
......PRACTICE.
you have to have the talent to begin with, then work hard on it and practice in order to improve.
zinab2blessa you do not have to have any talent in any thing, the only way to be good in anything is to practice for what you want. If you have the passion, drive, and ambition you can learn anything from practice. Talent, while people have it, isn't necessarily needed. Especially when it comes to art.
I LOVE THIS STATEMENT!! I WANT TO QUOTE IT!!!!!
I gasped at pretty much all of your art because it blew me away
You've heard it before, but your talent is outstanding and I am aaalways immpressed
love it A!
That moment when you want to scream "surrealism" it's called "surrealism" ;)
Fantastic work! soo jelly :P
yeah I'm really surprised she didn't know that lol guess that's why she going to school
Beyond the Radio That but to also get a career..
Lol yeah she posted once that she was doing surrealism art on insta story
Thank you
You are seriously so beautiful AND talented! I am in awe ❤️ This world is blessed to have you!
Idk why but I've never liked anyone's eyebrows as much as I like yours. Can't stop staring at them lol
Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy?
YES. THANK YOU.
I love this whole video , it was so important for me to know that I have to start being more creative and not just copy things. Even though having a basis is still good, I have to start thinking from my mind.
This is so true! So many people think technical skill is all that matters, your creative ideas matter just as much!
Congrats, so exciting!!
I know this is from a few years ago, but I absolutely love your art, it's extremely creative, so beautiful and overwhelming at the same time
So much details......... I guess I need to step up my game on practicing more :3
It was hitchiker's guide to the galaxy. I remember the quote "so long and thanks for all the fish". Your portfolio is beautiful.
