Annabelle, this painting is absolutely stunning. The work you put into this is amazing and it was so lovely to see the process behind making such a large artpiece. Please never worry about the quality of such a vlog because seeing what we saw is already enough to admire your hard work and your talent. I think all of us would agree that the priority of focus and quality lies in your artwork rather than the vlog. Keep it up! We're so proud of how far you've come and here's to many more commissions and art pieces :D
This painting turned out so stunning, I never would have guessed that it only took two days! I also love that you're still wearing your yellow cat sweater. I bought one from you years ago and it's still one of my favorite comfi clothes 💛
It’s so cool to see that you’re still sticking to your work and aesthetic I used to watch your channel every day throughout middle school and freshman year. Such nostalgia coming back I hope your doing well. You’re also the person that got me into painting and portraits in the first place so thank you.
this piece is so beautiful... i love the subtleness and intricacy. it's like one of those pieces in like a museum that u just stare at until someone tells you to keep moving to the next one
this painting is so gorgeous! love seeing the thought process and physical painting process behind it, your mark making is so mesmerising and lovely to watch :o)
This video reminded me of how much I enjoyed to paint and actually inspired me to start again (after almost 5 years of not doing it). The process, the shootage, your comments, it all gave that exact atmosphere and feeling of creating something when you don't even know what it is yet. This process of not making, but revealing the piece from somewhere inside. Thank you Annabelle, really great video!
This is probably one of my favorite vlogs thus far! I feel like I’m learning about art while also seeing your process. It’s super soothing! Amazing work
came out stunning the colors used even though you said the camera was distorting it are so healing and gentle to the eyes greens, blues and that pop of red orange from the sun peaking through the clouds/fog, beautiful. Oil is so tricky especially when you’re trying to convey an effect and it’s not going the way you want it lol trust me 8 years of oil painting I would sometimes carve little oil pastels to go in some areas and then dip a thin nail brush in walnut oil then wisp it out with that but you know, experiment! as long as you are having fun and loving what you do ❤️✨
stunning work! Just for future tip: MFD- board is super absorbing and does require at least 3 layers of primer/gesso for the best and most long lasting results :)
It's so beautiful. I'm so impressed with how much creativity you have and the technique to execute it as well. My favourite thing about the painting are the colours you used
I'm so glad you shared your process!! I fell in love with the painting the first time I saw it on instagram and now seeing it pop up on my youtube was such a happy surprise. This video reminded my of your studio vlogs in RISD. I was at my first year of graphic design back then and your videos really helped me keep my enthusiasm sparking and the way you approached design helped me a lot. Now I'm almost about to graduate and watching you building your life, going through ups and downs still continues to inspire me to one day experience that myself. Thank you Annabelle!!
very beautiful painting and approach. I think there is gray gesso available. Or, I bet you could mix a little black with the white and it would work fine.
i'm super in love with your art, you have been my art inspiration since i was a young teen. It's even more beautiful how you explain your process behind your work
The painting is extremely stunning! I wish I could see it in real life. I would probably stare at it for an hour at least 😍 so happy to see you creating art again on this channel ❤ reminds me of your art school vlogs. You’re a really great artist Annabelle 💗💗💗💗
Annabelle, congratulations on your biggest oil painting, it came out amazing! I hope one day I'll be around Boston and I can check it out in person. I love that you added a touch of Van Gogh with the tree, he's probably my favorite artist because his paintings always have such serene movement. I like that you just went with the flow and didn't go too deep into planning, human error is definitely what makes art special. Especially with all the issues going around with AI "art," I think a lot of people are missing that the human aspect of creating, the emotion of the moment is what makes art, art. Can't wait to see you work on more commissions in the future, I've always loved your oil paintings!
This painting is beautiful. Very amazing. I loved the fog the most; when you first started the painting, I thought it was water. In the end, it looked like fog and I really like your line work.
Absolutely beautiful painting (I love the composition and length too) and congrats to Lilith and her family! I'm actually going to Boston next month, I'm excited cause I'm finally traveling
this is so inspiring. you did such an excellent job! the wispy fog is still communicated well, i think. but i do understand what you're saying about how you wanted to execute it vs how it actually came through. i definitely think this is one to be proud of though. well done!
This came out so beautifully. When I saw your instagram post I was reminded of a drawing you did a while ago I think in a sketchbook in ink. I wonder if that was one of the mock-ups.
This is absolutely stunning! I have huge problems creating art as I always want it to be perfect and I guess compare it to hyperrealistic art, so I am beating myself up about a stem or a flower not looking right. But when I look at this work you created or other larger-scale art, everything fits so well together and is so beautiful without it being perfect - but simply just right!
The painting is so so beautiful!!! I have a huge canvas that's been waiting to be painted for months now, but I'm scared of messing up and always postpone it, but watching you paint inspired me so much!
Omg! You were on the south shore! I hope this means I get to see this in person! I’ve been a long time follower and I live on the South Shore of Massachusetts, so cool!
So stunning ❤️ I've never really painting anything larger then a 12x12 and my parents asked me to make a large one for their living room. It's kinda daunting ngl.
I was so excited to see your video on this painting it’s absolutely gorgeous!😍 such an amazing body of work and I can’t believe you drew it in 3 days I thought this took weeks 😱👏
''[...]improvising and that's like one of my favorite parts of painting, period. it's like it's not binary-it's not black and white, you can't engineer it- like human error-that is that is what makes it so beautiful'' - Annabelle Gao
So beautiful ❤️ loved this form of video, taking us through your thought process behind an art piece. You have so much intention and creativity in your work, it’s so admirable. Can’t wait to see what you do next!
I'm sure you''d say it was a trick of the camera, but it was very pretty from start to finish! You could have stopped at any point in the progress and I would have been like, "Ah, a beauty!" lol. Organic sketches are always "better" than finished pieces, it must be all the anticipation. 😩
I would have just used regular acrylic gesso like Golden. It is extremely normal for people to paint on wood using oils. Sometimes wood is more expensive than canvas. Good job on the painting.

I think your painting looks amazing, and does have the misty, soft look of rolling fog. Congratulations Annabelle!

oh my god this is amazing
Ayy I’m in the Boston area !! Neato :)

I love your lines of fog. I never get tired of looking them…
I hope you are SO PROUD of yourself. This is absolutely beautiful in every way.
