- Ever wonder what The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air might look like if it suddenly returned to the airwaves in 2019? Well, given Hollywood’s current penchant for giving everything a “dark” and “gritty” backstory, it would probably look quite a bit like this superbly made fan film by director Morgan Cooper. Simply titled Bel-Air, it gives Will Smith’s young “Will” a considerably more dire origin story while keeping all of the major Fresh Prince beats intact.

For some reason, I feel that I can relate more to this cast than the revamped one. It just feel more authentic. However we all know that Hollywood has to place their perspective on things. I just pray that the series do great.

I grew up on Fresh Prince and think it taught a lot of great lessons, I hope this does the same.
The only reservation I have is that by turning it from a teen comedy to a gritty drama it won't appeal to the audience that it could most help with its message.
A story about an everyday young man who works hard and gets rewarded with plenty of comic relief to even out the heaviness, that's what Freah Prince is all about.

It's a grown up version of the show for the people that grew up on Fresh Prince. It's not necessarily reaching for the same type of audience as the original, but rather the original audience.
Personally I love the novelty of reimagining a beloved sitcom as a serious drama... I don't think it's ever been done before

I would've loved to see a Fresh Prince Show set in the U.K with an African American kid moving to the UK and learning the culture over there especially Black British culture over there.

That was the point. What if today's Hollywood got a hold of it and decided to make it serious.
Not everything, just the good old stuff. You will see - there will be no remakes of today's films.
Back then when projects were small, you had to put a lot of soul into it to make it big. At the same time there were not many projects because of technical reasons. At the same time there were many talented, educated and creative people.
Nowadays the technical issues are solved, but there is a lack of creative people in the movie industry. The reason being that it's a closed circle, where you get in by blood or name rather than talent. As a result - those guys inside the industry can make good money without trying. Therefore they are degrading, because they thrive without the need to develop any further.
Until this changes and new blood and names are let in - we will have to watch remakes of old stuff, a heap of bad new stuff and maybe a good movie once in 3 years.
To keep it interesting? We have a "dark ass remake" of the current White House...why not keep with the theme?

RIGHT?!?!? I was thinking the SAME THING. The new Peacock show did NOT cast well. I am not interested in seeing those characters. I wish there was some way the cast of this fan film could have been in the reboot. Their acting is a lot better.
It’s not a fan made trailer, it’s a short film made by the creator of the new series. He made this and then Will Smith’s people called and wanted to help make a new show.

I was sceptical at first, but now that I've seen the trailer it's actually a pretty interesting concept.
Just hope studio interference doesn't result in something awful. That's what seems to happen, someone comes up with a great concept but the studios want this changed or that changed, ending up with something completely different.

Fresh Prince actually had a lot of dramatic subtext underneath the comedy. The whole show is basically an exploration of African-American identity.
