That scene at the 7 minute mark hit me hard as a kid. Because every thing Will rattled off I had to learn on my own and experience without my father. Fresh Prince, Family Matters and Saved by the Bell were great shows
Growing up in the '80s & '90s, my childhood was very tough like so many others, I moved away from my dads house and lived with my Uncle Pat, who became the father figure I needed and helped me out all the way til he passed away, My Uncle Pat was Uncle Phil and I really miss him so much.
James Avery was the melanated version of my father. The weight, height, facial features, voice….even that look in his eyes when my big mouth got me into trouble are extraordinarily similar. My Dad passed away just over 5 years ago and rewatching Fresh Prince right now is both wonderful and bittersweet. RIP to them both. ❤

"How come he don't want me, man?"
That's some hard acting to watch. Tugs at the heart.
Philip Banks always stood on the line of disciplinarian and distinguished gentleman. He always remembered where he came from, and those who got him there. A true king that had the undying love and support of his Queen. The love and admiration of all his children.
Uncle Phil & Carl Winslow were shining examples of what it meant to be a good man.
RIP Mr. Avery. You sir were a titan amongst us mortals. We will never forget you.
greatest Father, uncle and husband TV has ever seen!
"How come he don't want me man?" gets me every time
I always loved how firth just backs away to let Phil take care of BUSINESS
Growing up in the world i loved but was not filled with people the same colour as me. This programme and, more importantly, uncle Phil was a huge impression on me. I was grateful this was on tv and showed me an example of the kind of person i can be
That last scene is one of the finest moments in modern television, full-stop.
One of the greatest characters ever created for us all to enjoy, played by I think the perfect man for the role.
Everybody needs and Uncle Phil in their life.
Will needed Uncle Phil before went & slapped Chris Rock.
Agreed.
Will you are my son end of discussion that touch my heart ❤️
That how come he don't want me man?" Is still one of the most guy wrenching scenes in TV history.
I knew if I watched this I would be crying my eyes out, and I still couldn’t click on the video fast enough. Uncle Phil was more than an uncle and James stole every scene he was in. His performances are probably how Will Smith ended up such an accomplished actor himself. Rip uncle/father Phil.
Uncle Phil just holding Will brings me to tears every damn time.
