I got the original Turbo Scorpion in 1987 as a Christmas gift. That started a life long love of RC. I drove that 87 Scorpion for a few years till I bought an RC10 Graphite. I still have it in pretty good shape. The plan was to restore it and it was tough finding parts over the last 10 yrs. That all changed with the rerelease. So now I have a brand new Turbo Scorpion still in the box that maybe one day I’ll put together and put on a shelf. I still think it’s one of the best looking RC cars ever made. Great Video 😀
The nostalgia! Reminds me as a kid, looking through an RC brochure until the corners got fluffy. Dreaming. Action shots, dirt flicking of the rear tyres:)) Your spot on. Just enough power to enjoy the chassis. Other Vacuous RUclipsrs would put it on 3S and send it off the biggest BMX jump to destroy it for no reason or appreciation of what it is.
did the same as a kid and watched brochures of the favorite cars that im at the time could not afford and dream about them. its nice to se someone that dont overpower their car and try to make clout of bashing it. im rather as you say enjoy an older rc car with the same or as close to power as it got at the time of that car.
Great review of such an Iconic Kyosho Turbo Scorpion. One of my all time favourite 2wd Buggies of that era. Thanks to your awesome review this is going on my Buggy List hehe Always enjoy your videos from Down Under in Australia mate!
And for that is why I love so much Tamiya and Kyosho stuff. The Turbo Scorpion alongside The Turbo Optima are my two favourite Kyosho buggies and some of the ones I mostly use in a daily basis. Beautiful spot, awesome car, excellebte video. Thanks a lot Phil!
This is one on my "to get" list. There's just something appealing about Tamiya and Kyosho buggies on a beach, and slow motion. Great video Phil. You found the perfect little jump too.
Love it. I had the nitro version (Assault) when I was a kid. Restored it last years, works like a champ. It is something special with the old school buggies
I’ve always been a Tamiya guy when it came to these buggies. Wasn’t a fan of the scorpion, but once I saw the turbo scorpion I just couldn’t wait for it to be released. My first large scale Kyosho! Since then I’ve got 2 Javalins and I’m thinking of the Ultima. I’d say the Ultima would be a good contender for looks!
Oh my god! What an absolute weapon! This is my favourite of all your cars so far! Please build the beetle soon 🙏 iv been looking forward to seeing that for so long!
It is completely crazy this Buggy 😜👌 ! It is well thought out, the engine is well protected against sand infiltrations ? Great pictures on this beautiful beach ! 🌴👍 Il est complètement fou ce Buggy ! Il est bien pensé, le moteur est bien protégé contre les infiltrations de sable ? Tres belle images sur cette magnifique plage !
It's an ideal buggy, and I'm seriously considering one. Haven't had a buggy since I was a kid, but, I miss the 2WD chaos! Turbo Scorpion lookin pretty nice... Thanks for another great vid!!
Got one arriving on Friday. Will be powered by a Spektrum Firma 85a esc and 4000kv motor. Only 2s. Going with same servo, but 20kg. Too much servo can cause brownouts, in my experience.
Awesome build mate, shes a beauty. Glad you found the Driveshaft 👍 fantastic test Bashing and it is Awesome, pretty nippy to👍 great Video Phil as always 👍😎👍😁👍
I really do like the trackstar products. I have a few in different Rc and never had a fail in 7 years. This buggy is pretty neat. Thanks for sharing! ;)
Just built a Scorpion a couple of weeks ago , haven’t taken it out yet . That Turbo Scorpion is really nice and there hard to find now. That was a really good video from start to finish Phil . Need to get out and take mine out now . That beach was awesome.
Great stuff, Phil! Love the Turnigy kit, the 13.5 is my motor of choice too - it's the Goldilocks option! Agree with all your choices here. Great soldering tips too. The footage on the beach was incredible, especially the rear facing on-board cam. Damn you, Phil, now I REALLY WANT ONE! :))
Definitely want to do a kit like this myself, this looks incredible and sturdy 🤔 you're killing me Phil, the dedicated rc cupboard is full already! I do wish you had done a build stream on this one though. Love me a buggy ❤️
You need four hands to solder or a very understanding wife! Nice coordinated colour scheme. It goes nicely on the sand. Those East coast beaches are superb.
Brilliant! I love the tasteful build, with all due consideration given to colourways, the very handy soldering lesson (takeaway message: "Go hot or go home" and "always keep your tip clean") but what I enjoyed the most was the run footage on the beach. What self-control, not to just do a quick locally-filmed run vid and post the result! You got some gorgeous shots on that beach : )
Thanks Del... I guess theres a bit more to soldering... but I live by them rules lol. I've been waiting a long time to get this video recorded. Just over an hr each way to the beach, and an early rise to miss the crowds! Dedication! :)
Keep yer tip clean is just good life advice applicable to many different scenarios. On a side note my mates an me back in the day when we were silly school boys all helmets as a rule must be painted purple! Even my own motorcycle helmet was painted a lovely metal flake purple colour. I looked like a real 🔧on my black and gold RD
@@captainchaos3053 Ha ha! Yes, you're right about keeping one's tip clean. A quick buffing can only do good in nearly every situation imaginable. I still wear the same crash helmet I had at the age of 16. The padding collapsed so I replaced it with high-density insulation foam rubber and the chin-strap has frayed so I sewed a strap from a bum bag on instead. It's saved me in 2 life-threatening accidents over the years. Bet you wish you still had that RD!
I got the 80s version that was my first hobby grade car and it the only one of my 1/10 scale that I plant to keep I love the vw bug suspension on it, by the way you do a great job with the camera by yourself
Saw in a recent video a person mentioned the blue, yellow, orange (a,b,c) motor wires, and he said he remembers it by equating the A,B,C cars to ... bring ...your...own... made me chuckle and now I won't forget to put blue to A, yellow to B, orange to C...lol That buggy looks cool... I'd love to have a couple retro/vintage kits, even the re-re stuff... this would probably have been one I'd have chosen to have, along with something from Tamiya, and an old school RC10/RC10T... I have a B4.2FT buggy, and the oldest rig I have is an XL1 Stampede, it has been updated to brushless, and it's basically the same as the Stampede you can still buy today, so not really anything "retro/vintage"...
Man that does look properly good, a true dune buggy look to it! My first RC car, back in the '80s was the Tamiya Wild One. It looked great, but being mostly plastic, it broke after I'd been racing it at club level. So I moved on the the Kyosho Optima. Couldn't help noticing the Sand Scorcher on display in your workshop
@@TomleyRC I never did buy a Scorcher, even though I I owned two Beetles as daily drivers, and T2 Camper and a van at different times. I'm definitely considering getting back into racing RC once this pandemic eases as much as it can. (it'll probably never completely go away) I still have my RC10 and RC10 T2, plus a 1/8th truggy that I converted from ic to electric. Hmm, and an X-Ray touring car chassis that I bought used but never raced! Was just checking out the latest RC10B6.2D Team Kit. So much adjustability! And so much money! 😁 Ok, and a Kyoshos Land-Max Subaru Impreza, and recently an FTX Ravine crawler for fun.
