    I really like this video.just got one today and I got it specifically for qd on wood work . Did a 5 bedder for the first time. Took me 6 days with a Wagner 250m and back roll 18”purdy . But now I got the graco, my work should be down to 5 days tops. I’m gonna look for a video on cleaning the tool before I put gloss or satin finish in there. Cheers

    At long last we get to see oil based paint going through the graco well done john great video,im guessing it would normally take 20 mins to paint door with brush and roller both sides so even allowing for cleaning the sprayer plus masking tape over hinges your saving a couple of hours probably,plus the sheer boredom of painting doors is gone and looks like a much nicer finish with spray gun

    Hi, I have the graco ultra max and had an issue when I was trying to spray ronseal knotting solution and undercoat, after my first door the machine clogged up. Then I wanted to use high gloss non drip paint by dulux but changed my mind and used a brush and mini roller instead to avoid dealing with blockage.
    Would you suggest thinning oil based paint before putting it through a spray gun?

    • @KevinSolem
      @KevinSolem Год назад

      Just bought one, had the same problem as you (I think) The solution was to remove the filter under the pump. If you have a bad quality paint you have to sieve the paint for big particles. And when you are using the green tip from graco it is very sensitive for paint with big particles inside of it. The blue tip is not that sensitive but you cant use it (I believe) because the paint pump is to small

      @@camdecorations9779 'should' but in reality I heard they can go much quicker. Especially if you used lots of water to flush it through while cleaning as that all totals the wear on the pump.

    • @camdecorations9779
      @camdecorations9779 4 года назад +5

      @@jimtomlinsom1279 I hear that , I brought one two and a half years ago , it only lasted 5 weeks but I used it wrong there was no information about the machine when I first brought it . The shop didn't know even how much to sell it for. I sprayed my whole back garden fence testing it out then I used it to cut in and spray the making good and spray the cupboards out totally in five 4 bed houses then it died on me.plus was using the wrong bloody tip because they never came with any tips at the time and the shop owner said it should be fine to use a fine finish tip which it's not true . Totally used it wrong and I put a lot of paint through that tiny pump. Anyway I've just brought another one purely to use on doors after seeing this , as long as you know it will last only up to 200 litres of paint then you've got to weigh up if it's worth it or not . I'll be making a vid on this as soon as I get back to work.

      Probably about 3 cups of white spirit and more white spirit to clean the tips, head and the rest, cleaning with water isn't a 5 minute job so running oil based through must be a right ball ache. If using fire an undercoat I run zinsser 123 through it straight out the tin 👍

    You prob know this but the reason there aren’t many of those videos is oil based gloss yellows in warmer climates. So we’re mostly all on acrylic now for simplicity. Not as shiny but can come up pretty good.

    • @Artie6937
      @Artie6937 3 года назад

      I thought it yellows fastest from the lack of sunlight, I’ve only used water based enamel a tiny bit but not happy with the finish

    • @WesTpaintninjagc
      @WesTpaintninjagc 3 года назад +1

      @@Artie6937 yes it's certainly not as good of a finish, it's definitely sunlight that yellows it. I went to all acrylic for simplicity years people don't really know the difference unless you have a shiny enamel door beside an acrylic one. If your doing a whole house it's been undercoated first so they just see the end finish. You can spray it and it comes up pretty good I've sprayed some real high end doors with it and done right it does come up like glass. I was surprised I was able to match the finish on these doors they were so good.

      WesTpaintninjagc , whoops sorry had (last ) instead of lack of sunlight, live here in Victoria, had a job through winter where the people had shutters on the room that went yellow rapidly.. which product did you use? What size spray tip?
      I have tested out the taubmans alkyd water based enamel was very shiny for a water based but it still yellows a bit, I did spray a door but it was less shiny compared to brushing the product, however still didn’t have that depth and mirror like shine like oil or 2k

    • @WesTpaintninjagc
      @WesTpaintninjagc 3 года назад +2

      What do you mean by ‘ground’?

      @@amateurvegan2636 you have a plug wire with the handheld and when spraying oils it needs to be pluged in to stop static shocks

      Ah I see, like an earth cable right?
      Seems a little unnecessary imo, I’m guessing it’s also to stop it sparking and igniting perhaps.
      I’d just stick some gloves on I thibj

    The gun should come with an anti static lead incase the a spark makes the paint combustible. If ya add a little owtrol oil to the paint it improve its viscosity and will reduce the amount of paint and dry with a better shine and improve the life of the pump

      You can paint 17 doors in 57 minutes averaging 3 minutes a door , that's a lot of doors , time saved and money made in 50hrs , compared to brush and roller which takes about three and a half hours for 17 doors. The pump replacement is £250 the amount of money to be made , out weighs the cost of the pump
