I haven't taken mine apart (yet), but I'm getting really upset that I'm continually having to clean it. Like you mostly baseboards and doors, Like you I've had it a few years and have probably used it under 30hrs. Today I had a 9ft x 9ft exterior wall to shoot, and wouldn't you know. It started out great, about two or three minutes into it... it quits spraying. I'm at the jobsite, so I take it apart, clean in best I can... nothing. Worse $300 I've ever spent. Nice video. Helped me out! I couldn't remove the prime knob and I was getting a little hot. Your video mentioned there was a screw holding it on. So I checked and sure enough there was the screw. Thanks for keeping my blood pressure under control.
I've always been very careful about keeping my sprayer clean, and I was amazed at how much crap had built up in the pump assembly.

All the problems you outlined in the beginning were on point. I thought it was something j was doing wrong. I’m going to trash mine but before I do I’m running a cup of acetone thru it. I have and x5 and it works great, but I do t like running up and down stairs in my house to clean it
I had the same results on mine. Sprayed under 6 gallons of paint over one year on doors and baseboards. Problems with pulse spray pattern right out of the box. Then spitting 9-10 months down the road. Called the manufacturer and they sent me a replacement under warranty. Going to give the replacement another go.
Thanks for this great review.. I’ve just bought the new tips yesterday.. tried it and patterns still not good. Trash can here we go.. the home right sprayer I have cost 1/3 of that crap and yes it does spray paint straight from the can with larger tips included.. the only problem is that you need do more coatings which still sucks but finishing is 10 times better than 360 VSP.. tks.
The TCPro is worth it. I also bought a harbor freight sprayer and used an adapter to run DeWalt batteries. I have a video on the TCPro uploaded and a video on the harbor freight sprayer in the works #procrastinatorsunitetommorrow.

I see a lot of bad reviews about this sprayer, and I know someone will probably say I don't know what I'm talking about about, but mine sprays flawlessly. I thin down my latex paint with water each time. Turn dial between 3 and 4 and it sprays on amazingly smooth. Only sputters right as it's starting to run out of paint but I've gotten good at knowing when to stop before that happens. Been using mine for over a year. Only issue was having to replace the o ring where the cup locks onto the gun.
Glad yours works well. You might be the exception to the rule. I was never happy with mine from day one.
I have two of these. The first one worked really well and sprayed great for awhile. Then after a couple years the motor took a crap or something, tried fixing it but couldnt. Got a new one, now it spits out this bubbly air with the paint. I'm just going to save up for an HVLP, this sprayer is a serious waste of money and time if you're looking for perfection. I think it has something to do with the quality control of parts at the facility to be honest.
After this one I bought the cordless version with a triple stage pump. It's night and day different and I'm mostly pleased with it. I'll put a video out on it soon.
Damn I jus bought one today will use it for the first time tomorrow but after reading your reviews I'm questioning myself to return before I use it and jus upgrade for a better one🤔
I threw this one in the trash and, after a ton of research, wound up back with Graco "TC Pro Cordless Airless Paint Sprayer" - it's night and day different. As if it was made by a different company. I 've been using it since I made this video and I have nothing by good things to say about it.

I got mine as a Birthday gift from my new step - Dad who is now I believe 83yrs old and just the sweetest man so I don’t have the heart to tell him this thing sucks! 🥲 However like you I thought it was just me … maybe not doing something right! Grrr but nope it’s not! So thx for all you did to show how this thing SUCKS! Lol mine simply won’t spray now n it’s only my second time using (trying) it! The first time it did just like yours though and I ended up brushing up after it and thinking I was doing something wrong! I had a Wagner before and liked it a lot. So I guess I could possibly try reaching out to Graco and seeing if they might do something? Doesn’t hurt to try I guess. Put on my dumb blonde act and sweet as a Georgia peach voice and see what happens 🤷♀️🤣🤣🤣 thx again… wish me no scratch that … say a lil prayer for me?👍🏻🙏❤️

Really shocked. I have a couple of them and really like them for small jobs. The disassembly and deep cleaning restored the second one I have since previous owner did not clean very well. It does seem to go through tips pretty quick through if they left dry between, I ended up cleaning as normal. flushing with pump armor, then putting the tip in a ziplock bag of pump armor. Seems to keep the from failing between jobs.
The zip lock is probably a good idea. I've managed to break another one so I'll have a video up soon on what not to do! Abusing tools for views! lol.
@@fixitwithjerry6161 You probably use yours much more than I use mine as well. Mine comes out a couple times a year to paint up a pack of trim or a few doors then back into storage. If I were painting more then I would step up to the higher end model that uses the better tips, but for what little I use it for it has done very well. I still have a bigger airless but it has not been used in years since for the small jobs I end up wasting so much paint in cleanup.
I used one of these sprayers finish custom kitchen cabinets, the finish came out as good or better than a factory finish. I used Dutch boy Cabinet, Door and Trim paint and then top coated with Aqua Coat, Table/Bar Top Commercial Finish. I set the speed at 1 or 2 and I do get a pulsating spray but the Dutch Boy paint levels amazingly well. I sprayed the doors while they were hanging vertically then immediately laid them flat to reduce runs while drying. Then I scuff sanded them and top coated with the Aqua Coat. The Aqua Coat had to be sprayed horizontally and left to dry horizontally as well or it would just run off.

@@fixitwithjerry6161 Well... my sprayer is currently waiting for parts so there is that. The failure is likely my fault as I left paint in it for too long without cleaning it. 😕

Do you recommend the 4'' or 12'' nozzle for cabinets, I feel like the 4'' sprays a lot of material in a small area.
@@aldasilva2239 Graco recommends a 311 tip for cabinets. I think its a 6" Spray pattern.

I came on here hoping for some miracle fix. I'm glade I'm not the only one though, I thought it was something I was doing. What a waste.
I’ve had mine for 6 months and have had issues with the pulsing spray pattern and splattering. Tried buying replacement tips. Then today it would push out water but not the paint. It’s really just been a headache. It sucks because I was recommended this sprayer by other RUclips DIYers but it hasn’t worked out well for me!
Same, it never worked great out of the box. I upgraded to their cordless version and haven't looked back.
@@fixitwithjerry6161i almost bought the cordless. I found with the corded you have got to thin you paint more than you normally would. I use promar 200 oil on finish work. My opinion it is one of the most under rated paints on the market. When brushing it I’ll mix a little thinner but most of the time zero and this paint lays as flat as anything I’ve ever painted with.

I just bought one, i found out right off the bat you have to thin the hell out of your paint to not have the spit spots. And carry a rag with you and pay attention to the paint drip at the bottom of the nozzle wipe it off every few passes. But I wish i would have bought something different. But try thinning and every so often wipe the nozzle and see if that will help. I wish i would have watched your video before purchase.

After doing as much research as I had time for, (I needed a gun for a job literally the day after shooting this video), I bought the Graco TC Pro Cordless. It was on sale at the time for around $550 with two batteries and a charger. It looks nearly identical to the TruCoat 360 but it has a far superior pump, serviceable tip assembly, and a spray pattern that matches that of their larger sprayers like the Magnum x7 I have. Looking back I've easily wasted $550 in time / materials from problems caused by the TruCoat 360. It's a total waste of money. I plan on shooting a video of the TC Pro when I have time. Hope that helps!
I bought the variable speed Truecoat 360 and thought it was enough until I had a garage to do. Same problems as described so I traded in for a Magnum X5 and it is a completely different beast and I would never go back to a handheld ever again. Just the extension and tip options pay for the price of admission (460$ CAD plus about 200$ extra for another 515 and a 20" extension and a 4 foot whip). About another 1000 PSI means you really don't need to thin latex paint , very nice finish results that a handheld would struggle with in 4X the time to do it..
Agree! But also, the Graco TCPro is like a corded sprayer. It has a three stage pump and the difference is night and day. Check out my other video on it.

Same problem with new one I bought. It will not produce a smooth finish no matter what tip, what speed or how much you thin the paint. The problem is it is cheap, cheap design and not for finish work. OK for painting a brick or rough surface but don't use if a smooth finish is desired. It is equivalent to the 60's - 70's era old hand held electric sprayers my dad used to use to paint the fence or chicken coop. Expensive for what it is and there is no disclosure in the sales material that discloses the lack of ability to produce a nice finish. There are better sprayers.
I bought their newer cordless version with they dewalt battery and a better spray tip. I have a video coming out soon about it. It's far superior to this version.
The ultramax cordless version it's the best but the price is like 600 dlls .. I have the most cheaper 140 dlls and it sucks
Is the spraying “unit” of the front end of the sprayer (the black portion) the only part by your estimation that has paint running through it? I thought about buying one of these that has paint stuck in it but seems like as long as you could get that part apart it would narrow down the failure points for tou
On this model the black unit I think you're referring to is the pump assembly. It's not designed to be taken apart and I was not able to get paint to flow through it. I trashed the whole thing and bought a TC Pro that I also ruined and replaced the pump. That video is linked on one of the video suggestion end cards.
I have two of them. When new they work great. Sprayed no more than 3 gallons through them and both pumps clogged. First time I was able to tear down pump remove clog and reassemble. Worked for half gallon then clogged again. Just tore down both pumps and found all the seal are hardened. You can’t buy a rebuild kit. Only option is replacement pumps at $150 ea. these things are absolute junk and rate them no higher than just a toy that works for a few sprays

You mentioned you were in the market for another sprayer. Did you find something you liked? I'm having similar issues with my 360, any it's driving me crazy.
The Cordless version of this sprayer is what I wound up with. I'll put a video out soon but it's night and day different.

@@Attieattie_104 It's the TruCoat TCPro. Much better. I'm also reviewing a Harbor Freight version that I'll post soon. And I plan to check out Graco's newest cordless - the Ultra Quickshot - although it's a much more expensive tool. Let me know if you buy one!

So I am a little confused. You said that that guard was not removable but then you removed it. Are you able to remove it using some pliers while the unit is still together or do you have to take the whole thing apart in order to remove the guard? I flipped the tip on mine and left it for a couple of days before I got to cleaning it and now it won't spray. It makes the right noise and it primes but it won't spray even with the tip removed. I would like to just unscrew the guard and clean it out if that is possible without taking the whole thing apart.
Nevermind I found out. I tried to remove the nozzle and it does it fact unscrew but it will break the case or at least the case will start to separate before the whole nozzle comes out. The answer is yes you have to take the case off before removing the nozzle from this sprayer.
I have that same sprayer and brand new it sprayed horribly such a harsh orange peel finish.Looking at most of the ocmments there is no repair.
Do you use pump armor in your sprayers?
Yes every time.
I let mine prime and sit with some acetone, and sprayed it out. Not sure if that would have helped clean it, but it didn't. Still busted unfortunately and no easy way to get replacement parts out of warranty
I Upgraded to the TC PRO (and also broke it). I have a video out on it now as well.
my white plastic piece broke on the pump to gear. They wont sell just that part. such a waste.
After painting did you run thinner through gun? I run thinner through gun after every use haven’t had a problem. It’s not the greatest sprayer, but it has done decent for me, I back roll as well though.
I usually use their cleaning solution after cleaning but right out of the box this thing never had a great spray pattern. I have also tried thinning paint in this sprayer before with little to no change. Also, backrolling is not an option on trimwork if you want a smooth finish.
@@fixitwithjerry6161 I hear ya, I meant cleaning it after, I run thinner through it, fill up a canister and run it through spraying. Meh, either way for the money it probably wouldn’t last that long anyway. I’m not doing super detailed work, spraying metal cans (dumpsters) so as long as it’s even in good. I use oil based enamel.
@@CFLDumpsters I see. I use their cleaning solution (I think its similar to antifreeze - at least it smells like antifreeze). I've never used oil-based paints in that sprayer so idk. Now that I have the cordless TC Pro I would never go back. It's spray nozzle assembly is WAY better and its replaceable. The pump is also more smooth and more quiet. I keep meaning to publish a review video on the new sprayer as well, just haven't had the time.
It's the paint you are using. Might be too thick. Next time apply very little water or mineral spirits and mix. Works every time
I've tried several different ways of thinning. It never produced better results for me. Too late now anyway. I threw it in the trash and bought a TCPro Cordless. Night and day difference.
Bought mine a year ago to paint basement remodel and it seemed to work ok, not great but ok. Just got it back out to paint living room and it did exactly what apparently they all do, splatter paint, I'm really unhappy with this pos. Also wasn't particularly happy with the amount of overspray but I'm new to sprayers so maybe just wasn't sure what to expect. All in all a huge waste of 275.00

@@fixitwithjerry6161 bought it before seeing this video, found it’s best for spraying outdoors, ie. cabinets and baseboards pre-installation or rooms where the only color you’re using is white.
I’m fairly new at remodeling though. Could be of better use to me with practice

Bro, mine did the same thing every time the paint was to thick. As soon as I thinned out with water or “Floetrol by FLOOD” the sprayer laid down pain smoooooth. You shouldn’t of thrown that away
I have used Floetrol and I think it helps, but at the time my patience had ran out. I bought the cordless TCPro and I don't miss the headache of troubleshooting the 360. The cordless feature of the TCPro along with the upgraded 3 stage pump that's in the Pro, the cost to upgrade was worth it to me.

I paid $170 for the corded version to paint a new door. Sprayed with latex enamel. iI put out way too much paint whether using high, low with either nozzle in tiger strip pattern due to the pulse spray action of the sprayer. Graco recognizes the issue in the manual saying caused by moving sprayer too fast, too far away or dilution may help. Both nozzles are cheaply made and Graco's online QandA says no others nozzles are available or needed. I sanded the door and painted with a brush with good results. I blindly bought the Graco sprayer on name recognition. What a mistake. In my opinion due to the pulse output there is no way to get a quality job. The paint I was using was $40 a quart so conducting a painting experiment was not a practical choice. The author keeps referring to a cordless version that as far as I see costs between $600-$900. He says he will shortly post a video. Why in the world would I trust Graco at this point and for that amount of money? I don't!
I can understand your frustration with that sprayer in particular. I felt the same way, I didn't want to go back with Graco but I needed a handheld sprayer for the next day. Based on the limited research I could do and what was available in store, I went with Graco again. What helped me feel more confident, is 1.) the cordless version uses a different pump and nozzle. 2.) I have two other large Graco sprayers (the 120V version that pumps out of a 5 gal bucket) that I've had for years and they've been great. I'm open to exploring other brands but for now Graco is just the most convenient.
You may not trust Graco because of this one line of sprayers out of many, but I can assure you they are the number one commercial sprayer company, and they make the most high end commercial grade sprayers you can get. They actually sell $20,000+ paint sprayers. Most of their sprayers are over a $1,000 and they have a very good reputation among professionals. The only company that is close is Titan and they are a little cheaper than Graco, and they don't make near as many models.
I have this cheap spray gun and I have a $1,000 Graco airless sprayer. The quality is not comparable between the two. These little ones say right on them that they are not professional grade.

The graco vsp is garbage. I spent more cleaning and unclogging the damn thing than I would have if I just used a paint brush.
The problem is the connection on the lid not sealing properly. You are getting air creeping into the cup that’s why the paint is splattering. There is also a washer that should be replaced on that connection but the plastic where the lid connects to the sprayer is worn out and needs to be replaced. Home Depot has replacement cup and lid for $25
I would agree but I don't see how air could cause this problem. I also don't think air is leaking in. I wasn't losing prime, I had a vacuum on the canister every time I disassembled the gun after spraying, and it hadn't been used enough for something like that to fail. If this is the fix, Grayco should update their troubleshooting guide.
I know I'm late to the show, but, I had a problem with mine spitting and occasionally losing prime and it turned out to be the recommended Graco plastic bags that function as cup liners. Those bags keep the O-ring on the cup threads from sealing properly. I can see that is not the general problem here, but that is what was causing mine.
It is cheaply made but you also have done a pretty poor job of keeping it clean, which is crucial even with really high end sprayers. I was looking to see if it's possible at all to adapt a high quality spray tip holder to it
PFJ is what I call it. A big rip off. I maybe have 10 gallons of use out of it and always clean thoroughly and it still a piece of junk
