  • In this video, the GO Industrial team walk you through everything you need to know about replacing the pump on your Graco Ultra Corded, Ultra Cordless and Ultra Max Cordless models.
    Graco's Triax triple piston pump can wear out over time, depending on materials being sprayed, the total amount of paint put through the machine and operating hours. When you start experiencing issues with the pump, whether it be a difficulty when priming or spraying, lesser spray finish quality, lines on the spray pattern or excessive vibrant and noise from the machine - it may be time for a pump replacement.
    You can replace the pump yourself, following Graco's instructions provided with the pump unit. GO has listed the Triax models below to suit each sprayer model. Attached to the website product you will also find a manual.

      Sorry to hear about that! All the Graco handheld units have a 12 month warranty. So if you have any issues within that period, simply take it back to your distributor or place of purchase and they should replace the pump under warranty.

      @@GOIndustrial you may only use it once then store it , it may have twelve months warranty but it might only be only be used on one job, like mine was. I wouldn’t buy another one. Out of warranty and I’m left with a lemon.

    It's a very good video very well-thought-out and detailed to where anyone could accomplish this. The BS part of the whole thing is the cost of the pump itself good it should last longer then it does in the 1st place. However the pump is half the price of some models and 1/3rd of the price of others. This pumpshould be able to be repaired instead with a repair kit instead of having to buy a whole new pump. I won't get into the tedious cleaning required. But none of that is on you. Great video.

    • @GOIndustrial
      @GOIndustrial  3 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback! I understand the pump can be a little bit more expensive. Like you said though it is half the cost of the unit and the life span really depends on how much you use it and maintain it.
      Cleaning the unit is easiest with warm soapy water, and storing with the Pump Armour solution should prevent premature wear.

    • @FuzzFace
      @FuzzFace 2 года назад +1

      Even if you clean these units perfectly the guns go bad and you need to change the pump. It’s not cost effective for small businesses to be replacing pumps this much. It’s also wasteful because the entire pump unit becomes trash.

    can you PLEASE do a tutorial on the outlet valve kit repair for the UltraMax Cordless? Often times the entire motor doesn’t need to be replaced. It’s just the valve kit that needs to be done as an overhaul. 17P183. Could start saving people money when it’s just bad valve gaskets.

    I have what i believe is a tc ultra cordless, one of my guys was on a ladder and had a choice of dropping it or falling off, so it got dropped. I have sense then bought another new one but I'm determined to fix the old one. I have bought a new clam shell from what greco told me would work and it was completely wrong, I've now found that the pistons were also broken on pump, where can i find the needed parts and is it even worth fixing?

    • @GOIndustrial

      Hi John,
      Thanks for your comment, glad to hear your guy was not injured. I'm not sure that you can buy the pump separate for the TrueCoat range. I doubt it would be worth it mate, the money and time to fix it would be worth more than a new unit. Sorry about that!

    • @GOIndustrial
      @GOIndustrial  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment! Generally if your handheld is spraying with paint, and not water, it's a sign of pump wear. We usually recommend to replace the pump; however you can try to use it as long as possible with paint and be light on the cleaning out, it will still operate until failure. I hope that helps!

    How how much do this pumps last or how many gallons can we spray before needing a new pump ?

    • @GOIndustrial
      @GOIndustrial  Год назад

      This is a difficult volume to give, it all depends on the jobs you're doing and the paints you're choosing to spray. Some paints are more abrasive than others, and therefore cause pumps to wear a lot faster. Without giving an exact recommendation, we typically see pumps last anywhere from 150-200L when properly cleaned, and used for the correct applications.

    I noticed in the video you stated there were two different pumps, one for the ultra corded and cordless and one for the ultramax. So am I understanding correctly that the 17P185 pump is identical to the 17P186? Or is there a difference and they are truly three different pumps?

    • @GOIndustrial
      @GOIndustrial  3 года назад +1

      Hi Alex,
      Great question! So there is only two pumps, for the Ultra Corded and Cordless units it is 17P186 and for the Ultra Max Cordless it is 17P187.
      There are a couple differences between the two pumps. 17P187 (Ultra Max Pump) the seals are different to be suitable for solvents and there is also an earthing screw that attaches to the back of the pump.
      Hope this helps!

    My 2022 untra max is plastic on area that should be metal, like threaded area I'm unsure if the pump it plastic inside.. Can I change the parts to metal one like the older models. Cheers

    • @GOIndustrial
      @GOIndustrial  2 года назад

      Hey there, thanks for the great comment! The Ultra Max and Ultra have different valve types where you screw the tip guard on.
      The Ultra has a metal valve and is compatible with standard tip guards and extensions as it has the same thread type. The Ultra Max, however, has a plastic valve type which is not compatible with the standard tip guards and extensions as the thread is larger.
      The Ultra Max's plastic valve allows it to be more resistant to solvent based materials that you might spray.
      Unfortunately, you cannot interchange them. Hope this helps mate! 🙌

      @@GOIndustrial I'm very disappointed with the ultra max. It's alot more money but made of plastic. And incompatible. I've loosened the thread to clean and the plastic is already breaking after first use. Is this covered with the guarantee for replacement.

      Hi Steve,
      Sounds like the material you are trying to spray is a little thick for the filter. I would try thinning the paint with water as per your paints PDS recommendation.

    The Graco Ultra is without any doubt The worst tool I have ever bought during my 35 years as a painter. The pump gets clogged just by leaving the sprayer a couple of hours and the only repair is a full 300$ replacement of the pump. A very good business model for Graco to sell a low quality product for a premium price and sell spare parts for over the moon prices.
    Problems are In most situations not caused by a malfunction of the pump itself but most often by the poor design of the tip where paint gets caught in a small chamber in the very end of the tip. If Graco took sustainability seriously they would allow customers to repair/ purchase the front plastic tip. This would solve the vast majority of malfunctioning Ultras.
    Graco is Chinese crap labeled as American quality.
