@@asbestosconsumer667 no you were right though. Most pilots have a kneeboard as well that has calculations on their requires airspeed, angle, etc on landing. Because the amount of fuel, weapons, ammo in the gau-8, etc changes how the plane lands due to the weight. And the planes have so much going on that you would use a checklist to make sure you don't miss a step, same with startup, pre-flight, when in the air, and when landing/shutting down the plane.
The Taliban have defeated us and all our A-10's thanks to our idiotic P.C. Tactics and non stop Anti American Propaganda served up daily by NPR Types both here and abroad....
I have been across the highway from David-Monthan (PIMA air and space museum) and seen these birds takeoff/ perform formations/mock encounters and they are every bit as awesome as they appear
Davis Monthan is a cool base. Theres a air museum there and you can drive on kolb through the base your between fences and sometimes down in a ditch. but then in some places you get to see cool aircraft, for awhile it was A-10s then F-16s, last I seen was a bunch of C-130s, that was quite a while ago idk what's there now.
Good video. Love the A-10, was stationed at RAF Bentwaters UK, 1986-1989 with the 81 TFW. Was in POL so, we worked these bad boys everyday. Pretty awesome aircraft. The "Gun" is the coolest part of the A/C but the pilots really know how to make them work the whole frame.
I was an Army ROTC cadet on a Field Training Exercise at Jefferson Proving Ground in Indiana in May, 1985. We were dug in on a low hill waiting for the other guys to "attack". All the sudden I heard what I tried to describe as an electric coffee grinder gone berserk. It was my first time ever hearing the Brrrrrrrt! for which the A-10 is so famous. I looked up and saw two of the black crosses go screaming down like metallic birds of prey. They fired another burst from their guns, and I swear it looked like the planes stopped in mid air for a second. I asked what those were, and they told me they were close air support planes from the Ohio Air National Guard doing bombing and gun runs down in the valley. All I could think was "I'm glad they're on our side."
My work would be so much cooler and more interesting with a kneeboard. Sitting at my desk in a Zoom meeting. "When can we expect that, John?" "Just a second, let me consult my kneeboard notes."
The version on the video is actually the updated one. It has Sniper-XR TGP (it can carry Litening too), it can drop IAM including JDAM, it has GPS/INS system, Link 16 + EPLRS datalink, video datalink, new UHF/VHF radio and more. It has all avionics it needs and its quite modern one.
Cool video. The A-10 Warthog/Thunderbolt is in my opinion the *best* CAS aircraft that the USA has ever built, since the venerable P-51D Mustang. (and yes, I am aware that the P-51 was developed as a bomber escort/interceptor, however it was also a great platform for CAS usage thanks to it's awesome armament) Thumbs up!
Interesting how you have to constantly adjust the throttle...like a car. Also cool that you don't really see the front of the plane so you have full visibility all around.
When flying, there is a lot of info passed to you and you need to write the info down. While flying in Cambodia I was given four corner digits on ark literally flight ten block coordinates. My pilot ask where we were , I told him we were in the middle of the box. Earth was flying higher than we were. No place to turn. When we got back to our base we had enough limbs to have a nice fire 🔥.
Because of the straight wings and very low stall speed, could an A-10 takeoff and land on a aircraft carrier, unassisted ? No catapult talk off, no tail hook landing?
thats no Glass Cockpit. The A-10c is indeed an upgraded Version of the A-10A, but its still no glass Cockpit, thats just MFCD´s and various other upgrades.
TAD on the left display, CDU on the right , RWR active, Counter measures not set, Anti-skid off, landing/taxi-lights off, TGP not switched on (maybe not present), ... maybe i am playing DCS too much.
@Henry Suarez - What are you asking? Currently, an Air Force pilot *IS* a military officer. This may change soon... www.military.com/daily-news/2018/03/31/air-force-may-approve-enlisted-pilots-first-time-75-years.html
A-10 Thunderbolt II is the aircraft. The A and C are just the different models of the A-10. And "Warthog" is just the nickname given to the aircraft that fits both models of the airframe.
I dont' think the A-10 has any more use in a modern battlefield. It will be an easy prey for the modern AA technology available today. For straffing some Toyota across the desert ? Sure it is good, but that's about it.

I thought this was the a10-c warthog model, i'm pretty sure the thunderbolt II only had one mfcd
Thunderbolt II = Warthog, Thunderbolt II is an official name for both Hogs and Warthog is it's nickname.
A-10 Thunderbolt II is the aircraft. The A and C are just the different models of the A-10. And "Warthog" is just the nickname given to the aircraft that fits both models of the airframe.
And just to be clear. It's "A-10C" not "A10-C". It's a common mistake though so I see why you would think it's the latter.
