I've got the saddle axe, and I've got to say, once you hold a Hoffman axe, you don't want to let it go. I especially like the octagonal handle, it really adds to the precision of the swing one handed or two handed. I'm always amazed at the depth of the cuts even when singing into oak trees, I'm biting almost all the way into the handle. I love burnishing the handle after my outings, seeing how the wood shines up and how it just grips in my hand after. My favorite part about this axe though, is how incredibly good the steel is. GB doesn't hold a candle to it. And that's saying something because I throw my GB into oak trees all the time and I rarely dull the edge. This guy however, I've never dulled it, and I use it a lot. I keep it touched up on a steel and leather belt like all my sharp toys, but I only do that to pass the time away when I'm bored and have nothing else to sharpen. I can't recommend Hoffman blacksmithing enough, they really do make the best axes you can buy. I don't even think autine axes are equal. The quality and craftsmanship is out of this century.
When my boy is ready he will be getting one of these from me (I hope!). It's art, and I can already feel it in my hand. Oops, I guess I will be needing two! Beautiful, thank you Liam.
This is the axe that closely resembles the Granfors-Bruk Scandinavian Forest Axe. I have no use for one but I like the Hoffman trapper's Hatchet for camping.
Just put in my order for a camp axe with a 3lb head and a 28" handle. Guess it will be all about the patients in waiting for this axe but in all things good waiting comes, yesssss... Look forward to it coming in 2018...
What makes this axe cost twice as much as the average Gransfors axe? I bought one and it was nice but sent it back I'm a bigger guy and couldn't really swing it withought having my hands feel like they were holding on to the end of a pencil.
Great axe! Only one point, an axe can't excell in felling/bucking, limbing and splitting, that's . It can be an excelent feller, an excelent limber, an excelent splitter or a compromise between them.
I'm not saying you don't produce good tools. Take as an example a limbing and a spliting axe, their job makes each one to have just the opposite geometry. Producing an excelent limbing axe will make it a not good (note I'm not saying bad) splitting axe. Yes you can make it split well in easy wood with good technique, but it will be much more difficult to split dry knotty black lockust if we compare it to an excelent splitting axe. The same happens trying to limb with a splitting axe. Trying to find the optimun point to make a good axe in all the tasks is quite difficult. You can produce a good axe for all the tasks and it will be an excelent axe when you obliged to take only one axe. But making it good in all the tasks will make you to compromise your design, and compromised designs by definition don't perform excelently in all the tasks.
Hoffman Blacksmithing hey mr. Hoffman love the axe. Did you get the idea from the old time axes? I've got a couple old axes that were called a house axe and they were made the same length and weight. Great job sir.
So buy a Fiskars knockoff and feel virtuous, then. 🤷🏻♂️ It’s a beautiful tool; he speaks to the pleasures of maintaining the tool. If money is your concern, there are numerous other options.
@@Bill-mw7sh I’m not sure why one would equate cost to HRC. 55 HRC seems pretty ideal for an axe; GB axes hover in the 50-53 HRC range. Tough, not brittle, yet field-sharpenable. Liam’s is a dying art, and it’s how he makes his living; I suppose my point is a handcrafted axe will command a higher price, but if you’re seeking some particular HRC, there are ample less expensive and mass-produced tools on the market.
@@BentbrooksRambles 55 is soft average and lame. Bro. Guy charges like 500$ for something I can get at a hardware store. It’s like thinking you have a great knife and you have an esee… it’s not great. It’s not even good. It’s not even mid. It’s low bottom of the barrel. For 450$ put a frigging heat treatment on it like what the frig is that guy doing? Two thumbs way down. It looks bad ass it looks great but I’m not buying a suit I’m buying a frigging axe. This is like cult shit. Frig this guy and his laughable 55hrc axe for 500$ after shipping. Lmao.
I just got this axe, and absolutely love it! Liam you are a true craftsman, building a forever product. Thanks
Make a video you using it. Would love to see it in action.

Thanks for make these videos, dude. I adore them

I hope you catch up on your orders soon, I am desperate to get one of these axes.
The nitrile looking gloves Liam, Are you preparing to dismember someone or have you just finished?

I look forward to it!!!

Fuckin awesome man. Love it.
Great axe! So whats the other axe thats tied for #1 favorite?
Can you do more shop time videos?
What a beautiful axe man! How do i get one

What do you use on your axe heads for rust protection ? Beautiful work.
How much ? How can I buy it ?
Are you able to make modifications to the handle?

NICE!
can get get a bearded axe with a little longer handle ?
I'd like to have me ones of those probably out of my price range though
Tell me how to get one
Why do you use 4142 chromoly?
If either of my boys come across this video, this axe would make your dad love you a little more.
Just don’t tell your mom what you paid for it.
don't tease me, I have to wait a year!
Liam i think i gonna buy a axe from you in the futur
What D-bag gave this a thumbs down? Seriously!? How can anyone not like this?
It would be nice if every one could have one but y’all make it impossible to get
The axe is great, but the lead time is not.
You charge WAY TOO MUCH for an axe with only 55 HRC. and that's a fact.

@@BentbrooksRambles I never said that. The money he charges is way too much for a axe that’s 55 HRC.. whatever floats your boat man.
