Image is the famous painting "Frederick the Great Playing the Flute at Sanssouci" It is an 1852 oil on canvas history painting by Adolph Menzel showing Frederick the Great playing the flute at an evening concert in his palace of Sanssouci. It is now in the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Sanssouci was the summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, in Potsdam, near Berlin. The palace's name emphasises this; it is a French phrase (sans souci), which translates as "without concerns", meaning "without worries" or "carefree",....
Schloss Sanssouci in Potsdam is without a doubt the most physically dominating and impressive palace in Europe. The whole complex of castles and gardens is a must see for any visitor in the Berlin area, the fact they survived WW2 and the Soviet occupation is a small miracle.
Agreed! Incidentally ensemble Cafe Zimmerman does a nice version of the orchestral suites too. I cannot opine on their coffee however… probably a keurig haha
That flute part is both beautiful and technical. I know, I tried to replicate that part on my French Horn, in baroque tuning (one octave lower), and it's not a simple task. My vision of my instrument's repertoire is that, even if it's quite vast, I think it could do a lot more if it took inspiration in such pieces as this one.
In this Ouverture, Sonata or Suite the flute becomes the main wind instrument with its incredible sonorities and melody and architectural virtuosity. a trait of Bach's instrumental musis from the Cothen period. Prof Giacomo Zaccone, University of Messina, Italy

1989년 2월에 내한 공연 왔을 때....
아무것도 모르는 채 그냥 바로크 원전 연주라는 키워드 하나로 찾아 갔던 공연
참 좋았습니다.

That Badinerie is Badass!
Reinhard Goebel did a great job here.
Maestro Goebel is cavalry charge after charge...not to everyone's liking, yet this is how I would enjoy my coffee at Zimmermann's !

Вчера я поняла, что жить во дворце это тяжело.
