I think you made an excellent point in making the best out of the conditions that you have. So giving optimal light, nutrition, humidity, to the extent that you can provide those things to make the plants happy. I think that people sometimes don't understand that these plants can be very adaptable but the things that they cannot withstand are low light, insufficient watering and no fertilizing.
Hi Brad! Glad you got to be part of the video....you look so soft and cute :) Such a nice way to see all the details in the leaves when they are mature....it seems they know how beautiful they are....it does take our breath away....I will be waiting for your next video....glad to start my morning with your tour :) good night I bet to you!
i've been following your instagram for a long while now and im so happy you made a youtube channel! your video quality is very professional so the viewability is ver very high! I've made my own mosspoles looking at yours but i added a rolled up piece of felt in the middle which pokes out on the bottom, i've put the pole in a separate container within the pot so i can always keep it topped up with water and the pole rarely if ever dries out! this has worked with every plant i've tried it with, Monstera's Philodendron and syngonium! just wanted to share this tip and maybe its a fun experiment for you! I presume by hearing your accent you are either dutch or german soooo.. Geniale filmpjes en bizar mooie planten! jaloers!!!!
Such a beautiful collection just the right amount and not overdone like I’ve got the tendency to do. I’ve seen a woman in Bris with more than ten different cultivars of verrucosum. The star of the show really was the gorgeous feline.
Hello there I happen to come across your videos love love love I can keep going but you get the idea your plants are all big and beautiful great job your cat stealing your show keep up the good work
Great vid, thanks for the tour. Those lights 😍😍 I need them now and a P Ernestii too, you are so bad for my bank balance! 😂 Love Brad, what a lovely cat he is 🐱
Jan, I just discovered you today and have binged watched most of your vids. I follow various plant bloggers from around the world and learn heaps but I always come away with more questions than answers. Not so with your vids, you explain stuff beautifully and your plants show your expertise. Even more perfect is that you are in Australia and I live in central sub tropical Queensland and generally I think we have similar climates. I have often wanted to buy plants from providers but often they are overseas and I dont think the plants would survive postage, do you ever sell cuttings from your beautiful collection. Thank you Jan from a very happy new subscriber.
Thank you so much for your kind comment :) to be honest I get most my plants from bunnings :) they have an amazing collection. Otherwise can highky recommend growinggrounds on instagram. Amazing selection & good prices :)
I started last year with my first plants, bevor I killed basically everything!! 🙈 your plants are amazing!! I started to look out for a couple of plants that you have to start with some more “special”ones 😍
Wow, amazing plant growth; I'm now inspired to get to work! I hope it lasts.. i have moss poles to make and vines to mount. Sigh. Oh and by the way, I just had to tell you I think you're sooo cute & handsome especially that smile. 🤤 Ok bye, have a nice day, cutie 😘😅😂😂 Erik in California
Love love love the big plants. Just made my first mosspole yesterday. I only wonder what do you do with the lower part of the plants where you chopped the top half of. You say you use the top half for further growing. ...
Hi 👋😊 Love your Plant Content! 💚 🪴 *Question: I Started my Philodendron phase, and already have a large collection. How do you pest control all your Plants, Especially your Philodendron? *Knowing that "Spider Mites" love Philodendron, especially its New fleashy Leafs. Hope you can help me with this question and concern!! I've started using Captain Jack's Insecticidal soap recently. What do you use and how often? And what insects have you dealt with your Philodendron collection? Thank you in advance! 🪴🫶
So beautiful! Have you ever put a Brazil on a pole? And do you know what the difference between the gigas and a micans is? I'm in NZ and never heard of a gigas but it looks similar to my micans Thanks ☺️
And another question, what do you do if you have to leave the house maybe for a week? For two weeks? i am always conserning about this, and i am thinking to make a setup with timer and lots of little water pump systems? i think some people can choose that way even they are not away from home, less maintenance i guess.. never saw an example of it on the internet though. Guess i should be the first one
Well this is my favorite channel now!! My only curiosity was havent moss poles really never fall? Even 180 cm ones? How? Have do you stabilize the stick with the pot? I am presuming when its wet, it gets heavy and and might cause the fall?
My house is 60% humidity right now, summer here. and sitting around 22 with air conditioning. The suns to high to get into my south facing windows though. So I use a humidifier in the winter and with the sun being lower… for less hours they like winter better. I’d say my house is not optimal for plants but like you said. It is what it is. I cannot replicate conditions you give your plants. But One day I may make a few moss poles let my climbing plants climb. 🤷🏻♀️
Those philodendrons are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I would love to do a wall like that! Does anyone know if grow lights alone can provide enough light for the plants to thrive? I only have 1 window in my downstairs area and it’s perpendicular to the wall I’d like to do this on.
Thank you :) just grow lights are better than no light but you might want to do a little more research to ensure the grow lights are strong enough to mot just supplement light but create sufficient light themselves :)
@@sydneyplantguy Thanks for your response! I watched your video on crawling philodendron AFTER I bought a gloriosum hoping to climb it up a moss pole 😑. I’ll watch all your videos before making any more moves 😂.
What an impressive gallery of specimens! But on the darker side, I was pondering recently about aroids, even worrying. I wonder, is there some terrifying aspect of Feng Shui that comes into play when over your shoulder, there looms a batallion of downward-facing arrows? Are they depleting, wasting, washing away some aspects of the resident's lifestyle? Yes, that's it: they have definitely managed to diminish the thickness of your wallet, haven't they? ;)
Thank you :) I’m not sure how you could look at them and consider them terrifying :D actually I always get my plants as small cuttings and grow them to maturity. Most came from plant swaps, so my wallet didn’t suffer much :)
@@sydneyplantguy I hope you know by the winky face icon that I was not serious in the least. Just trying to throw some ill-conceived levity into the mix. Your plant displays are museum-class; actually I really like your aroids for their wondrous patterns. Thanks.
Are these plants placed in the area in your video, as in: is this their living conditions pertaining to light and placement? Or did you gather them all in one spot for the video?
fun fact! if you like the ernesti’s petiole then you should consider getting the mamei!! it has the same petiole but a different leaf shape and is a crawler instead! edit: i just saw your mamei so this comment is now obsolete lol
Hey Brad! Just wondering what pot sizes most of these are in? I’m always worried about having to repot my big philos as they grow but your pots look a very manageable size 😅😂
@@sydneyplantguy also if you don’t mind me asking, I saw you use foliage focus, is this all you use for nutrients? I’ve been using it a while too, it’s great stuff!
Thank you so much for your content. Dream room. I'm in Queensland so I'll be setting up soon. Just got back from Cairns and checked out their aroids at the Botanical gardens. If you have a chance go check out the size of those beautiful ladies. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and content

Defiantly like the look of the grow lights. It’s plants, of course aesthetics are important!!

Haven’t grown a brazil. Gigas is different to micans and grows much larger. Just google the mature form of them :P

Liquid fertiliser in the water

Do the grow lights still support the plant when its reaching the top of the pole ?
Yeah they light up the whole room but light intensity is highest around the middle of the pole given the way I positioned the lights
@@sydneyplantguy That's great, thank you for your story about the importance of light, I'm getting a grow light❤️
The advice is so brilliant…. Every environment is different so I’m guessing its trial & error
The guiding pricinples are usually the same but specific care requirements are subject to your environment so yes, nothing beats trial & error :)
How much time per day do the plant recive direct sunlight ?
Changes with the seasons, but on average a couple of hrs in the morning
