And made the possibility of mature indoor plants a reality. I live in Florida and my Pothos and Philodendrons climb my trees outside and achieve massive proportions. Your method makes perfect sense and I love the idea of being able to pass lovely large plants along to other Planty People to enjoy. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all!

I would say of all the numerous videos I’ve viewed, your videos are the BEST and easiest to understand. I truly appreciate you sharing your excellent plant knowledge with us! Helen 🪴🌱
Jan, first and foremost you are my greatest inspiration in the houseplant world and i truly admire how much time and energy you put into your videos, here and on instagram. I have a burning question for you. I bought a monstera dubia and it arrived at my house on July 1st. When it arrived it was on a cedar plank and was growing off the cedar plank and hanging freely in the air and the leaves were smaller where it was no longer attached so i chopped it where the last biggest leaf was on the plank. i then took it off the plank and put it right on a moss pole. Everything is going extremely well and i have it in a clear pot and i can see it’s producing a ton of roots at this time but hasn’t reshooted yet. (where i wanted it to at least) So my question for you is when will it re shoot? I put it on the pole on the 5th which means it’s been 15 days. It has reshooted in 2 spots further down near the bottom but not at the top where I chopped it.
Plants are unpredictable. Just take it for what it is, you can’t force the plant :P Sounds like everything is working out just fine & the plant is growing, so just enjoy it :)

I'm gonna end up having to remake all my moss poles. Couldn't find the coated ones, only the galvanized ones. Which I'll use and will work for at least the next couple years, which is enough to grow them to chop and extend. I plan to put the coated ones on as extension, so when I chop and extend, they'll be on the proper poles, and I can break down the other plant on the galvanized hardware cloth to propagate, and steal the moss out to use elsewhere. (or add to a soil mix, depending on if it gets broken down at all. I guess ill see when it happens.)
Hello Jan, I’m so glad I’ve stumbled upon your channel - just from watching 1 video (this one) I can tell that you’re concise with your information and well spoken 🙏🏽. I have a question, does the chop and extend method apply to all aroids or more specifically the monstera deliciosa?
Thank you for recommending this video 😘 I have a really mini M. dubia which has 3 leaves and it finally took root. I have 3 easier Monster for me, which, even in my climate, grow quite well for me. I wanted to go to a higher level 😀 Thank you I realy learned a lot. Greetings from Poland 💚💚💚
I can't wait to try your method. I bought everything you use/suggested, to a certain degree, now it's time to put everything together. I live in the desert with a constant 30-35% humidity, so I'm assuming I'm going to have to water more than you, but we'll see. With that in mind it sounds like you use a half liter for each 90cm per watering, so I'll start with that and experiment. Fingers crossed.

Do you know when dealing with Monstera Aurea (or any variagated) if too much light from a grow light could cause leaf deformity in new leaf growth? This is a question that I can’t find any answers anywhere. If you do have knowledge in this area I would so much appreciate your advise. Thank you! Your plant are just gorgeous.
Too much light will cause leaf deformities indeed. I've noticed this a lot with different Philodendrons and especially when using Superthrive or with plants growing in pots that didn't have enough holes for the roots to breathe. Oddly enough, the only deformed Monstera deliciosa leaves I'd seen happened in low light, but I suspect that the actual cause is an excess of water (plants drink less in lower light, so the soil stays drenched for longer and problems such as root rot emerge). So my tips for you would be to make sure your substrate is light and very well-drained, that the pot has holes on the bottom but some holes on the sides help tremendously too and that you don't water your plant too much. I personally water my Monsteras 2 times a week but they're under a powerful grow light, in a very airy and chunky soil mix and they are thriving! As long as the leaves don't burn or go paler, chances are your plant isn't getting too much light. Also, Monsteras fenestrate a lot more under more light. Good luck!
@@nackedgrils9302 thank you so much for the advise. I did have my props in terracotta until a couple weeks ago when I switched to some nursery type plastic pots with plenty of holes. My substrate is very airy also. I’m hoping things will take a turn for the better real soon. The leaf coloring and variegation is awesome just the leaf size is real small amd a little deformed. They all have new leaves ready to open so only time will tell! I appreciate it very much!
As I said in the video I don’t measure light so I have no idea about that :) i just do trial & error. The light intensity would definitely depends on the species though. I’m sure there is a handy excel spreadsheet somewhere on the internet about this :)
@@sydneyplantguy On the same note, do you expect your plants to receive the same intensity through all seasons? In nature, that's not the case right? So do you supplement with artificial light?
It depends on the plant you're growing but mostly at what stage it is. We also don't use lumens to measure light for plants because this unit isn't relevant for plant growth since not all wavelengths are equally absorbed by the plant, we use PAR or PPFD instead. For example, Cannabis (which has been extensively studied, contrarily to most of our collection aroids) needs about 100-200PPFD at the seedling stage, 300-600PPFD during the vegetative stage and as much as >1200PPFD during the flowering stage if I remember correctly. You also need to change the light spectrum to optimize growth during the different stages with blue (cold white) being best for vegetative growth (mimics spring lighting) and red (warm white + red) for flowering (mimics end of summer/autumn lighting). Since we grow most of our houseplants for foliage, I'd recommend a cold white LED for more aggressive growth or for young plants. Photoperiod (the number of hours during which there is light) is also crucial. Most people recommend using a 12/12 schedule for aroids but I've talked with an aroid re-seller who used an 18/6 schedule with a lot of success; the plants I bought from him were very healthy and fast-growing even when I put them back under my 12/12 schedule. That's about as much effort as I'm willing to put in this explanation. Just like Jan suggested, I'd recommend to learn how to read the signs a plant can give to understand if you're giving it too much or too little light and do some trial and error. A lot of these signs are also intertwined with nutrient deficiency or excess so you have to consider all parameters at once. Also, bear in mind that you may be giving your plants enough light but not enough water, nutrients or proper temperature and humidity, so it'll still give you signs of too much light while the actual cause may lie somewhere else.
Hey SPG, I was wondering if you have shared a link to where you get your nursery pots. My husband and I have been looking all over the internet for the type of pots you use. Please let me know, and thank you for all that you do. B&J Abraham

Can you expl;ain how it stays stable in seach a small pot ( and not keel over)
It’s because i put the nursery pot into a heavier decorative planter
I want to try this with my plants with leca but I wonder if it will stable
Should be fine :)
Do you believe this can be successful when growing in semi hydro? My moss pole sits in the leca or pon and then the moss starts above the substrate
Sounds perfect :)
If you keep rearranging your plants often do your plants get stressed by moving it all the time
Not really :) i move them to give them better conditions as the light changes so they appreciate it

Do you have any photos of a mature Monstera Peru?
No :) but maybe try google ?!:P
@@sydneyplantguy I have tried that and so far no luck. Thanks!
Hello, I have mosteras and I hardly have any white parts, what can I do to them?❤️❤️
The variegation is random so nothing you can do about it apart from strategically cutting it to hopefully have it re-shoot with more variegation.
Hi id like to know if you do replanting/transplnting during winter?
Please let me know 🙏
Should i touch my monstera roots to add better mixture on the soil now in winter or just wait till spring? Thanks
I repot anytime of the year as long as the plant is healthy and continues growing. But really depends on how harsh the winter is where u live. You could always just wait
@@sydneyplantguy thanks Plant guy! Appreciated your reply! Im in Brisbane.
