@@coltbuildsit 2nd that statement--the detailed step by step how-to in all of your builds is invaluable to the DIYer that would otherwise be fumbling through poorly written instructions with pictures that look like they were taken with an Etch-a-Sketch.
Very informative, and the trick with the ground on the tube would have helped me the other day. But now i know thanks colt i guess you do learn something every day. Great video, man!
Thanks for sharing you knowledge. I always enjoy watching people who know what they are doing and giving a verbal walk through of what they are doing then showing just how it's done. It also helps when that person doing the work has a pleasant and fun attitude while working.
Sure hope Barnes 4WD is a sponsor of your channel because you give excellent tutorials on their products. Plus everybody loves learning from someone who knows what they’re talking about.
Years ago I worked at a cabinet shop. Every morning the shop forman would check everybody's tape measure against the table saw scale. If they were off he would bend the hook with a little brass hammer to adjust.
Spray inside of the tie rod with Fluid Film or any of the lanolin base rust prevention products. They will coat and last a lot longer then any penetrating oil. Will also work great for roll bars or any place you can't protect with paint. It's a rust belt thing. Most after market tube side steps rot from the inside out.
Finally some one that tells you the right way to weld cast. Being in industrial maintenance for years we did it like that. Or if the part was small enough we would put it in the rod oven for several hours then turn it off and let it cool over night. The only thing I would add is either a temperature marker or gun to get the cast preheated tot he right temp for the new guys.
I have been enjoying this channel a lot. Colt referencing the "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball" scene was excellent! 🤣 Great content Colt, I love your attitude. Can't wait to see what's next 🤙
When I had to weld a cast exhaust manifold. I built a camp fire to preheat my work then after welding I tossed it back into the fire then let it burn out overnight.
Go look at the bronc* and see how bad it cracked? Hillbilly didn't heat it when he welded it. I was wondering the whole time how well that was going to hold up. I'm digging the channel Colt, keep it up. I didn't watch bleepin jeep, so I'm a new subscriber to the new you.
Cool diff covers, I just put the same ones on my Jeep WJ 5 days ago along with fresh paint on the axles after the OTK steering install! See you in 5 days…….
Nice educational video. But @ 4:13 Are you sure it's Teflon in the lock nut? It doesn't look anything like Teflon (PTFE) which is usually bright white and has no translucency unlike PA6 nylon which has yellowish translucent appearance. Usually, it's nylon used for lock nuts (a.k.a Nyloc) as it has much better properties for this application (and it much cheaper too). Teflon is a soft and very low friction material usually used where your you want surfaces with low friction that's why it's used in ball joints, on non-stick frying pans and in lubricants. That's the exact opposite material property of what you want for a lock nut where you want it to create a high friction surface.
Frekn awesome watching the Colt show keep up the good work your explanations and descriptions of your work is very easy to understand thanks for the entertainment cant wait to see your future builds the fam loves your onX s10.
Teflon also doesn't melt until about 620 °F. Interpass temperatures should ideally be lower than that. This is why Teflon is used in mil-spec wire insulation of wire rated for 400 °F operating temperature - because if has a very high melting temperature.
Years ago I almost got into a knock down drag out fight with my brother.. We were putting some full length runners on a flatbed trailer for a friend.. 3in channel, just short of 20ft (couple, 3ft short of) length.. I was calling out measurements he was cutting steel.. Put them up in place and nothing fit.. Of course it was brother to brother, my comment was "can't you read a GD tape measure??".. Yea, the argument was on and people were leaving the shop cause the fight was coming.. (we both stood 6'6"+ at 280lbs+) I finally had an idea and told my brother to grab his tape and pull out 150/160 inches.. At 160in the two tapes were off almost 1 1/4 inches.. Closest we came to trading punches later in life.. Lost big Bro in '95 from a heartattack.. Good Lord I still miss him...
Gads... you make it so us wanna be's can actually become a DIY. THANKS You're looking great, I know you said all you did was change your diet. Maybe go into it a little. Mindset etc...
Excellent content and Great build video. Easy to follow, understand and you hit more than necessary points but quickly and without confusion. Good job please continue with same similar common upgrades for off road rigs. New favorite channel. How hard was it not to slap away Robbie being a clown during your shot?. I expect that from Hillbilly not him. Hillbilly actually looked like he was listening for real to you. Lol. Thanks man .
Thank you so much for this video! I've been building and struggling with my 02 dodge ram that has a swapped Dana 60 w/arb locker in the front that has horrible steering from poorly done work and I'm about to tear it apart to fix myself and learn. Plus side is that it's got a built ford 9"with an arb locker as well!
Well Colt this is my first time watching you. Great work. Seems like your brain might be a bit bigger than your counterparts. But damn man how hard would it be to put on some form of cool kid safety glasses????? You know like when you might snap off a drill bit or something...... Thank man great video.
I'm rebuilding a rear dana 44. I've cut everything off now I am trying to figure out where to put all the mounts. I am doing a triangulated rear with outboard shocks. I have put on the truss over the pumpkin but still trying to figure out the rest... Lower control and shock mounts.
Nice video. Just wondering what kind of wire you had in your welder. Cast is known to deposit carbon into your weld and cause your weld to become brittle. Nickel based filler is suggested for welding on cast for this reason. Thanks!
Awesome video colt! You should do some welding videos on engine mounts & axle brackets. I’m going to be swapping in a LS in my 94 YJ and I need to weld some engine mounts on it.
Good morning Colt I may not agree with everything you do. I do respect how you still do everything the old school style thank you for that. You are an amazing teacher
Nice-N-Clean information soild, saw that done on giant Radiator shroud cast iron generator housing from refinery old timer 90 years young heat treatment and all he fixed a antique it's cool to see it done again Great content thanks
Colt that is why you are my favorite builder. You take the time to explain the process and the consequences of not doing it proper.
Thanks
@@coltbuildsit 2nd that statement--the detailed step by step how-to in all of your builds is invaluable to the DIYer that would otherwise be fumbling through poorly written instructions with pictures that look like they were taken with an Etch-a-Sketch.
Consequences?
Could you please explain that word to our American government.😂
Very informative, and the trick with the ground on the tube would have helped me the other day. But now i know thanks colt i guess you do learn something every day. Great video, man!
Glad to help
Finally some actual work being done in Robbie’s shop
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Harsh lol
You are a hater.
Working on a dairy farm is hard work.
🐄 🐄🥛🥛
😆😆😆
Ha ha best comment
Excellent work Colt.
RUclips needs you!!!
Thanks
Nice that you go over everything in detail. Other people just rush over it and don't provide much info if you want to do it yourself.
Really enjoy seeing you & hillbilly together. Keep the awesome content coming
You are a great instructor. Very clear and no bs. Keep it up, I cannot wait for the next one. Thanks again
I appreciate that!
Colt is the shop teacher we all wished we had and still need, Loving the new channel and looking forward to more great content
Awesome! Thank you!
Your narration is fantastic! Detailed but understandable.
Thank you kindly!
I like this method of explaining what your doing
Love the new channel,great information!
Dynamite! I'm loving this little more detailed zoom in on specifics!!
I can't believe that someone has actually mentioned the fact that tape measures measure differently.
You just know that Colt knows what he's doing👍👍
I completely agree! In fact, if you're using two same brand tape measures, then you should always check them against each for accuracy!
The best trick for this process is to have your own Colt to beast mode the labor.
Best new channel for guys that like seeing the why and the how.....rick on brother 🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing you knowledge. I always enjoy watching people who know what they are doing and giving a verbal walk through of what they are doing then showing just how it's done. It also helps when that person doing the work has a pleasant and fun attitude while working.
Colt, you do an amazing job explaining and demonstrating, great content. Great seeing Hillbilly as your assistant.😊😊😊
Thanks so much!
Great “instructional” component Colt! Warms the heart!
Hell Yeah- first of comment- Mike from New Mexico.... 'C' Clip= Jesus Clip- when it flys across the room you say, 'Jesus'
ITS A SNAP RING !!
Yep, snap ring. Hillbilly shouldn't be your go to for learning.
Colt does a fantastic job and is knowledgeable. Follow Colts lead.
Sure hope Barnes 4WD is a sponsor of your channel because you give excellent tutorials on their products. Plus everybody loves learning from someone who knows what they’re talking about.
Nice to see you in Utah surrounded by friends!
Cast steel is commonly confused with cast iron.. especially in the 4wd community.
Thanks for the deets~
Yay for more contents!
That’s why your videos are always the best. You show how to do things that unless you know someone to show you it’s a real guessing game. Thanks
I appreciate that!

My friend has four Caster wheels bolted to his workbench for spinning drive shafts while welding them
Another Colt instructional, excellent content and well explained.
Much appreciated!
Nice work. Good results require attention to the details.
Coltbuildsit and Coltinstructsit! Valuable education!

Great job, finally some one shows how to weld cast right!
When I had to weld a cast exhaust manifold. I built a camp fire to preheat my work then after welding I tossed it back into the fire then let it burn out overnight.
Good tip.
Covering with a large amount of sand also works.
Go look at the bronc* and see how bad it cracked? Hillbilly didn't heat it when he welded it. I was wondering the whole time how well that was going to hold up.
I'm digging the channel Colt, keep it up. I didn't watch bleepin jeep, so I'm a new subscriber to the new you.
thanks for Subbing!
why New Mexico and not Arizona or Utah?
Another great video. Great duo, you and hillbilly.
Thanks. Looking forward to more on your channel
Great video, very informative
😁so funny watching you lot working together excellent👌👌😆
That would have broken my wrist!👍👍🤔
Damn man I feel like we should be calling you Dr Colt or Professor Colt.
Cool diff covers, I just put the same ones on my Jeep WJ 5 days ago along with fresh paint on the axles after the OTK steering install! See you in 5 days…….
The only channel I can watch at normal speed 👍😎✊
Is it me or is colt a great vid maker

Yeah, normally it's nylon in there.
Make sure you do not milt anything, I mean melt.......
I can't wait till colt starts getting that you tube money coming in and see what kind of ridiculous things he gets into
I think you said “milt”? Did you mean “melt”? 🤔
Frekn awesome watching the Colt show keep up the good work your explanations and descriptions of your work is very easy to understand thanks for the entertainment cant wait to see your future builds the fam loves your onX s10.
They should really like this year's build when we get started😎
Wow Colt you're just all over the place.🤙🏽👍🏽🤛🏽😊😎🙋🏽♂️🙏🏽✌🏽
love the way you explain every detail , excellent channel
Feel like im back on hotrod TV, Colt your an awesome teacher, very detailed and informative thanks for the share
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks Colt a very good job.
How do you know so much and are able to describe everything you have to do for each thing so clearly. Are you/were you a teacher?
Nope, just failed, learned and listened creating wisdom in some things😁
Hillbilly pretty good help , isnt he.😊
Great videos keep them coming 👍
They are called Nylock, because the locking ring is made of nylon, not Teflon.

GREAT how to video! Awesome job!
Hey from Vegas, St Rose exit.
Robby Layton Paint and Body Repare is changing to Robby's Custom 4x4...and eventually "Robby's 4x4 and Offroad Recovery." Hahaha
Another great video, Colt!
Told you you'd make a great MC!

So much appreciate you explaining everything all along the way!!! Thanks. I think this might become my favorite channel. Bonus, Family friendly too!
Nice job explaining your steps Colt. Walking away from welding cast and you hear this little "ping" sucks. One never knows with cast.
85 bucks HARBOR FREIGHT, ball joint tool. because if your doing this stuff you may as well own it😊
Gads... you make it so us wanna be's can actually become a DIY.
THANKS

A very informative tutorial. Nicely done Colt as usual. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Nice! Looking forward to your channel. Maybe i missed it, more welder set up and wire info.
Outstanding how-to. You have a nack for explaining all the pro-tips. Keep up the great work.
That was SO informative Colt - very helpful :)
Excellent idea using the bent round stock as a ground. I usually fight the ground cable as it gets wound up. Thanks Colt.
Seriously loving the new channel! Thanks, Colt!
Good morning Colt I may not agree with everything you do.
I do respect how you still do everything the old school style thank you for that.
You are an amazing teacher
Great video.
I’m loving the channel! So glad to see you partnering with Robbie and team!
What do you think about Ball Joint Delete systems such as American Iron?
It's not cast iron it's cast steel and cast steel is much more weldable. Just saying. 32 years welding.
Excellent video as always! Keep it up and thank you for sharing
bought a balljoint press off ebay $45 then a $15 accessory for xj balljoints i use that thing for just about any round bushings an ujoints
What temperate (roughly) are you trying to get the knuckle up to each time? Thanks, Colt! Love all your content!
Great teacher great info love it !! Colt
Glad it was helpful, thanks!
Another thing you could use inside of the bars is 3M cavity wax
Nice-N-Clean information soild, saw that done on giant Radiator shroud cast iron generator housing from refinery old timer 90 years young heat treatment and all he fixed a antique it's cool to see it done again
