Hey Colt, I just want to let you know that your channel is my favorite youtube content. I love Matt, Rory, Paul, Rudy and Robby's channels but, I really appreciate the detail and time that you attack every project with. Also, you don't have a crew to help you sling the camera and do the work. Keep up the GREAT effort! Thanks for what you do!!!
@@frankburkett7453 You are so right! It was not intentional. Tom Tom also does great detail on his builds and works alone on his recording. Thanks for reminding me!!
Dude I love the Bible verses at the end I always knew you were a Cristian by your work ethic and quality just as your verse today states your not working to impress any body, but to do the best one can do for the glory of God
Hey Colt! Always enjoy and learn from all your video's. Said it before and will keep saying it........super stoked you have your own channel now. Always happy when that bell lights up that another cool video is waiting to be watched. Looking forward to the next and hope we have not lost seeing your wife and son now that fall is coming around. Take care and thank you for sharing
I love how you go outside the box and obviously it worked so awesome with the S10 build that the Pacer is gonna blow people's minds. Can't wait for the finally product.
Boy howdy them guys at Barnes have been putting in the skull sweat. That's a whole damn lot of strength and you made it out of puzzle pieces! Lots to be proud of on that part!
We could all make that stuff with an engineering degree and a plasma table. Better yet, a water jet so we could cut kids toys with plastic too….. honestly I’m just bitter and jealous that I have no welder, tools, or ability. I’d love to be a fab guy not just a fat guy
Colt, In case you don't know, something happened in the middle of the video where RUclips said it was 4k but the picture was terrible. Not sure what happened but it threw me for a minute and after I kept watching it done fixed itself. I like the way you explain stuff. Keep them videos comin'. I'll keep on watchin. As a kid I loved "The Fall Guy" I don't remember much of it now but its cool that you were named after Colt Seavers.
Hey Colt, Love your videos and you are one of the only guys out there that show us the tips & tricks of putting together these rigs. I love how you explain the processes of doing this stuff. Your videos are great and keep them coming. Thanks - later
If you take your torch and get it burning black you can use it to put soot on those threads and the BBs wont stick to the soot. It's an old pipe welder trick
Pipe welders up here in north dakota use their cutting torch to smoke the possible affected area. When they do that, the smoke causes those boogers to either bounce off or the boogers easily come off with a wire brush. Worked every time that I saw them do it.
I used that thread chasing method to fix some lug studs that got cross threaded on my Land Rover. Great tip. If you are anything like Fab Rats, your missing parts are in the fireplace.
Man Colt, I wish I lived closer to ya. As a welder/fabricator and a bit if a machinest id come by and give ya a hand. Looks like ya could use one to make it go a little faster and ya wouldn't have to work quite so hard. Awesome work brother keep it up.
The DIY thread chase tip is a great one I've showed numerous people over my years. I was thinking you should have had something in there while you were welding, but it turned into a great teaching moment. "Happy accidents."
Probably should have named your channel 'Colt Builds It Really Well' lol It's been said that we should try to learn something new each day. So I do that by watching your channel.
Hey Colt, this is a great video. I remember some of the things that I learned in Heavy Equipment And Diesel Mechanics Class, way back in the mid 80’s. The O.S.H.A. in me noticed your creeper on the floor behind you. I would hate to see you accidentally step on that and go for a ride. Although it might make a good blooper. lol Stay safe and thank you for sharing.
Colt... I really appreciate your clear explanations of why you are doing something. Is your background in Metallurgy? Do you have an Engineering Degree?. You are very knowledgeable in all you do. Keep up the good work.
A great video Colt, I haven't seen this depth of axle building since the 80's ,dam thats 40 yrs, boy i gettin up there , with your attention to detail and explanation of each part your doing makes you as good as any instructor I've dealt with and the best part is you make it easy to understand for anyone, I am guessing this is how your dad taught you to do it the way he did it, nice quality work, those welding boogers will payoff when you and Rory win the ONX challenge , i know the feeling working in the heavy steel industry ,look forward to all future videos, nice quote ending 👍
Hey Colt. Next time you have a brake line farel stuck to the fitting, heat it up a little bit and melt a crayon on it. The crayon will pull into the nut and get between the farel and nut. Hope this trick helps. Works with a lot of stuck metal objects..
# Busted Knuckle Films . Colt thank you for showing how to build stuff on a budget, alot of RUclipsrs just show all the parts from sponsors that was given to them.
My son said that's parosity in your Wells if you dont clean it the certified pipe welder sead and Your first pass should be high heat for good penetration and strength and then your cap should be your good looking weld That keeps impurities out of your first Strength pass weld fyi Don't shoot the Messenger you can walk better than me😂
Great video. Over an hour and you didn't loose me. Good job. Steel toed sneakers? Safety glasses half the time. Eyelid welding shield. Just for the tacks. Well your eyelids are like a 0.5 shade. You only need to see for another 3 or 4 decades. I mean what the hayyyy. Love you man. Oh dump a yard or two of gravel infront of that garage door. Your forktruck asked me to tell you that. How bout a chunk of brass on the bottom? Leave some gold on the rocks. Leave your mark.....
Hi Colt, you definitely need a mbx from rodcraft or Chicago Pneumatics, this tool is like a sandblasting tool but it’s a rotating nail blaster better than any flex wheel or so something. It’s cleans rust in seconds on the most surfaces, absolutely helpful tool. I use it very often for my projects…
I love watching your videos and i live about an hour and a half from you. I live in cortez Colorado lol one of these days i want to come meet you #dirtheadshed
Hey colt. Just an idea for the 9" breather. I installed a fill cap off the back of my 9" and then tapped the cap for the breather instead of finding a new place in the housing. Also, I welded a piece of 1/4" plate on the bottom of the axle, so you don't smash the stamped steel housing. And then I tapped that for a 1/4" NPT plug to make draining it easier.
You were rolling the axle into the shop with the wheels and pinion spinning.. your drum was never rusted to the shoes it was rusted to the axle from the beginning, but thanks for all the cool videos I do enjoy all your educational stuff as a fellow wheeler
I appreciate you and I do learn a lot from you and watch your videos from head to toe but man I found a tube belt sand cleaner thing off of Amazon . It wasn't that expensive and to clean tubes it worked so good
Colt and other viewers I didn't find out til I was 24 that a t bone was 1 part newyork strip and I part filet which I was amazed and shocked that I didn't know lol so if anyone else didn't know now you do lol
Thank you Colt for sharing this with me ! I've never welded before but I believe that I've learned some good tips from you ! Keep up the great work and lessons !
To remove rusted-on drums use a BFH or air hammer to beat the face of the drum between and around the wheel studs. This fractures the rust on the large flat surfaces between the axle face and drum, which is usually what's stuck. I've done this many times on Unimog 404s and have never damaged a (very expensive) drum.
Rub some anti-spatter gel in the bung before welding...I hate trying to clean spatter out of threaded areas when I get in a hurry and weld stuff up! 👍🏻
You aren’t joking about the amount of grinding on the 05 and up stupiduty axle! Tons of grinding! I don’t have a plasma cutter so it was only a saws all and cutoff wheel on the driver side.
One thing you could do to get the brake drums off is to use a hole saw and make holes in the backing plates then use the air hammer through the holes to the inside of the drums.
Yeah, on those break drums when I worked on semi. Trucks, mainly semi trailers. You just take a really heavy hammer Always keep a 12 pound sledge, but A8 pound sledge. Hammer with the right handle, you can smack let drum and they'll split in 2 pieces LOL I would definitely recommend strapping. The axle to the Jack stands. Or maybe even taking them off the jackstands, ha ha ha. It works and it's less work I think 😄
sweet build can't wait to see final product. but most importantly very educational and keeping us normal backyard project hobbies in mind. would have to say its @BustedKnuckleVideo
That plasma cutter did impress me. I bought one that that said it could do 1/2 and couldn’t do 1/4. So I went and bought one that could do 1 1/4 and does 1/2 with no problem now. lol. I have never tried anything over 5/8 with it.

I was taught to never chase threads dry! I like Tap Magic, really helps cleaning out the threads.
Great video Colt!!!! ................. But pb blaster would have helped alot................trust me Im an old guy......lol.......
Colt needs to invest in a bead blasting set up; or one of these new fangle, high-pressure dry ice blasters those things are phenomenal

Why not skid plate the bottom of the 44. Great video and lots of good tips.
Put colt 44 door handles on it😅 love it.😊
