She’s singing in Icelandic here. In addition to that and the much more common Faroese and English, she also sings live in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. She’s a genius,
Saying this as a Faroese person; it's not that unusual for us to know all those languages and often times German too. Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are similar enough that if you know one language then you can pretty much figure out the others as well and Icelandic is quite similar to Faroese but probably easier for us to read than speak because the pronunciation is completely different. And on a sidenote; singing in languages you don't understand isn't that hard since it's all memorized words. But yeah, musically she's a genius :)
One of the most humble persons I know in the music industry. My best time listening to her is when she is just barefoot a capella singing without thinking. The most amazing natural singer I know. The voice comes through her out of the ground. Not possible other than to love her. I am a lucky Icelander.
Eivør, is a Faroese singer-songwriter with a distinctive voice and a wide range of interests in various music genres spanning rock, jazz, folk, pop, and European classical music. Her musical roots are in the Faroese ballads. She is my top artist I had the chance to see her and the band at a gig in Bristol here in England She is magic. You must do Falling Free live it is excellent, I'v been a fan of this young lady for years. And Konni Kass sang and played with them at the same gig another class lady. Eivor is the co writer and singer for the music of The Last Kingdom she is full of talent. Cheers all the best from England and keep safe both and have agreat Christmas ( Wassail ).
The Two Ice Queens Eivør Pálsdóttir (Syðrugøta,Faroer Islands) and Aurora Aksnes (Stavanger,Norway)......soooo many more good Songs to react to in the Future !
It's beautiful and I love your reactions, but ... for a brief second, I thought you where going to react to the spontaneous performance by Árstíðir when they performed Heyr himna smiður *in a train station.* Oh well, thanks anyway and happy new year :)
This song was written in 1208 in Iceland by Kolbeinn Tumason before Víðisstaðabardaga (vidisstadabattle) where he died in combat (allegedly) Hear, smith of heavens. The poet seeketh. In thy still small voice Mayest thou show grace. As I call on thee, Thou my creator. I am thy servant, Thou art my true Lord.
God, I call on thee; For thee to heal me. Bid me, prince of peace, Thou my supreme need. Ever I need thee, Generous and great, O’er all human woe, City of thy heart.
Guard me, my savior. Ever I need thee, Through ev’ry moment In this world so wide. Virgin-born, send me Noble motives now. Aid cometh from thee, To my deepest heart.
Hey guys absolutely love your reactions, can see you two become lost in the vocals, and feel every word she says, doesn’t matter if you don’t understand the language or that, just heavenly... Check out Caitlin Drake singing Ganol Gaeaf Noethlwn (Welsh version of In the bleak midwinter) outstanding.. Hope you are both safe and well :-)

@@ericj.w.ruijssenaars3421 Eivors sister Elinborg sings as well.
@@PeterDay81 Ah, yes, I may have encountered Elinborg already in Eivor's ''at home'' concerts earlier this year. She did join in on some songs.
@@ericj.w.ruijssenaars3421 Yes i know and all great concerts.
Merry christmas! You have to listen to: Eivør - Falling Free (Live at the Old Theater in Torshavn). It is a very emotional song!

My favorite song from Eivor is Falling Free. The video is live and her vocals are incredible.

Hear, smith of heavens.
The poet seeketh.
In thy still small voice
Mayest thou show grace.
As I call on thee,

God, I call on thee;

In this world so wide.
Virgin-born, send me
Noble motives now.
Aid cometh from thee,
To my deepest heart.
Wrong. The text is written then. The song is written probably around 50 years ago by Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson who died in 2013.
@@MrKorton he wrote the music not the text :) hárrétt hjá þér

The Gathering - TG25: Live at Doornroosje Travel
The lyrics are 800 years old but the song is about 50 years old.
That was, actually, IMO, a terrible performance.
