    I like it.
But what would have been better was if you had your first layer just black then the rest of the layers in clear resin with all the swarf inside it, this would have given your table depth.
All that brass in the middle layers has been lost.
You still get a 👍 from me.

@@peterbrownwastaken I noticed you had a bandsaw in your workshop, you could take the table top and cut into two parts, each half an inch thick. Then put it back into the mould and top it up with clear resin and the brass. This would give you two tables tops with out using much of the brass.
      Just a thought. 👍

    • @WilliamTythas
      @WilliamTythas 5 лет назад +16

maybe shine a bright light from underneath to see if that shows anything .. if so, you could then add an LED strip around the inside of the "leg" on the bottom of the table

@@peterbrownwastaken I kept watching thinking, "He's hiding all that brass. What was the point of even putting it in just to hide it." BUT, all and all I think it was a great idea to use up what would normally just be trash scrap. I liked the end result, albeit not very brassy (LoL). Did you teach yourself how to weld? I'm only asking because I'm thinking of teaching myself. If so, what was the learning curve? Was it difficult to learn or pretty simple or something you believe you'll get better at with practice.
Again, great project. I enjoy all of your videos. Thank you.

    came out really nice!!
could see some varients on this ....doing the pours as decreasing color density so it "fades" down into darker the deeper it goes...
i've seen fine brass curls used for inclusions in bowls and pens when you fill a void with resin, so there's a ton of possibilities there.. winds up with an almost organic, fossil-stone kind of look to it....
you are right about your planer.....your knives will likely need resharpening after that, as they'll have lots of nicks in them after cutting the brass.. If you know someone with a milling machine, that might do better but I think you'd still get a bunch of chip out no matter what you do.....
a final surface pour is really the only solution to leave a "finger-friendly" surface, otherwise anyone who touches it, will come away bloody....

@@peterbrownwastaken This might be a bit much, but it would have all your elements, plus would be good for two video postings.... for the turned piece, make a table lamp...to do the lamp base, decide how long you want it and how big, then use two square pcs of plywood, sandwich an L shaped brass tube in the center{used to run your lamp cord through} of the two pcs of plywood, set up your box to pour the resin and filings into in layers,..side thought, if you use a clear tube, you could use a string of small led lights to go up the center and would be easier to bend for the cord to come out the bottom side of the base ..Then for the shade itself...using an old lamp shade frame, make the panels from resin in the old Tiffany style, with the small clamps to hold the panels to the frames.. would look awesome with the swirls of different colors in a clear base so that you could see the brass curls in both the lamp base and the shade panels.... spray paint the metal lamp frame brass color to make the curls pop more.. great gift or even a give away for say your next anniversary show or your next sub count mile stone.... I think a number of small castings would be great for them, like various shapes of small paper weight type designs, but more creative. Have different levels of colors and translucentness. Getting the brass centered and in neat designs may be hard, but would look great, much like small little metal sculptures captured in resin.

@@peterbrownwastaken For some planers there are cutter heads which use a whole bunch of indexable carbide inserts, arranged in spirals. They cut much smoother, none of the sideways dips or lines because cutters are always in contact with the wood. Chip something and you just rotate the chipped inserts instead of having to replace or resharpen a whole knife. They can probably easily handle cutting of non-ferrous metal like these brass or aluminum shavings.

Wow the bubble popping with the torch was super satisfying in this video! Also super neat that the resin appeared transparent while pouring but became super opaque when it settled in the mould.

Careful Peter, any more metal work and you'll get the machinists descending on you. :P

hey peter, just a friendly reminder, if you are using cold blue on steel, its vital to do a coat of oil on it afterwards (the cold blue forms an oxide layer on the steel wich is porous, this soaks up oil wich prevents it from rusting and gives it a darker colour) you can totally do the pastewax after but i'd highly recommend using a light coat of oil first for that reason

    Mhh...
i don‘t like this one so much.
I would have done a thin coat of black epoxy at the bottom and then the bras chips in clear resin.

Man, I don't know what it is but you have slowly become my absolute favorite RUclips creator. Your videos are the only ones I watch on regular speed (normally I do 2x) because you have just such a chill vibe. People probably don't say this enough but keep up the awesome work. Every time you post a video I make time to watch it. Thank you!
