I still think it’s insane that you and I made almost the exact same video by coincidence! And you actually made yours first LOL! I just released mine before you :-) Love it! Big Agnes makes some great tents!
I've been trying to decide on the Copper Spur vs the Tiger Wall for use When I needed a freestanding tent. Just watched Dan's video when it came out. Pulled the trigger on the Tiger Wall last night. Could of used your video yesterday Devin......so props to Becker on this one! All joking aside, can either of you comment on how easy/hard it is to use the Tiger Wall on rock or even loose sand where it is only semi free standing? I decided on less weight over the convenience of a totally free standing tent for these occasions. I probably should have asked this question before making the purchase. Would love to hear either one of your thoughts. Thanks to both of you. Keep the videos coming!
I just got a Fly Creek UL2 this past spring.....and it works great for me. I am 61 and have weight in mind with my gear,,,,and it doesn't weigh much. I find it very easy to set up, and only need one vestibule. 👍😊
I have the copper spur UL1, roomy enough inside for some gear with lots of pockets and the vestibule is big enough for my bag and boots and weighs just over 2 lbs, I love it
I own the Copper Spur UL 2 Platinum and I can vouch for your review being accurate. It still blows my mind that western based tent designers have no clue about condensation management. If a tent does not possess huge ventilation ports while fully rigged for wind driven rain, that tent is largely a waste of money in the humid east, where 2 / 3 of the American population lives.
I have the Copper Spur HV UL2 in the olive green colour, which was slightly more expensive but chosen because it blends in with surrounding foliage. To protect the floor I found it necessary to make my own ground sheet out of RIP Stop fabric to protect my investment and add a little value thermally.
I’ve had the Fly Creek UL2 for about six years and love that tent. I think the older model is better because it has those side pull outs you mentioned the newer model doesn’t have. I share it with my partner and we describe it as being like sardines in a can but we don’t mind haha. I think the front entrance is something people either hate or don’t mind and I’m in the don’t mind camp. Overall, I haven’t had any issues with it. Just my two cents Thanks for the vid!
I was going to say the same - my older Fly Creek UL2 has the side pull outs. They are also the only part that has failed on the tent (they ripped off in some winds - maybe that's why they don't have them anymore.) Big Agnes repaired it for free, but I got my Duplex (100% my favorite) shortly thereafter and have never gone back to the Big Agnes. That tunnel design drove me crazy - not a fan of the vestibule.
I have used Fly Creeks for six years now - love them. I’m 6’2” so I use the 2P for soloing or the 3P (yes, the fly creek does come in 3P) for 2 of us. My go to is my 2P carbon version- ultra UL for treks like the JMT
I own the Fly creek UL2, the Tiger Wall UL3 and the Copper Spur UL4. I use the Fly creek for solo backpacking (mine is the previous version and it has the pull outs and I have not had issues in the wind), I use the Tiger Wall for backpacking with my girlfriend and the copper spur we use for car camping. Love them all. I do agree the fly creek is a pain with the front door but you get used to it.
What kind of ventilation is there on the Tiger Wall UL? I haven't found anywhere that really shows it and it's a huge consideration where I live (humidity is a problem).
I was so stoked when i was able to pick up the fly creek 2 mtn glow version for $200 brand new at REI outlet. Then i used it, and I HATED the front vestibule. I cant imagine ever sharing that with another person due to having to crawl around to get on/out. I manged to snag a copper spur mtn glo at a nice discount when they redesigned it. Funny thing is I've yet to use it: it's been used by others when backpacking or kayaking with me. They enjoyed the tent tho.
Funny... agree with you mostly as we have had ALL 3 of these. We started with the Fly Creek UL2, but when it arrived we realized it was too small for 2 people. Hubby used it on a weekend trip solo and hated it, too claustraphobic. So we returned it to REI for the Copper Spur 2. Love that one, but we adopted a dog this summer and needed more space so we bought the Tiger Wall UL3 which worked perfectly for the 3 of us. All in all, we actually like the Tiger Wall best and it weights a few ounces less than the Copper Spur 2, so win win. So we still have 2 BA tents and love them both but the Tiger Wall may see the most use unless we loan the other one to a friend.
Great comparison that helped me decide really quickly that the Fly Creek is absolutely too small for two people!!! Thank you for going to this side by side comparison and discussing in detail!
I used the fly creek for years. It served me well. My biggest complaint is the front entry. It’s soooo nice have I g two doors. And I think the older fly creeks have a higher mesh with less splash back
I had a Flycreek for two years. It was an ok one person shelter as long as there was no wind or rain. I think the only thing I really liked about it was the weight.
I love, love love my copper spur. I’ve camped in it about 30 times this season both in the backcountry and car camping. I bought the tiger wall and just couldn’t handle the semi free standing aspect. I live in the Sierra. Granite. Every single time I could not pitch correctly. Gave up, got the copper spur, o regrets.
I have a Flycreek 2. It's tight with me and my 7-year-old, so I can't imagine sharing it with an adult. Love it for solos, which is really what I got it for.
Just spent 3 days on the GAP trail with the Copper Spur bikepacking version. Great tent and kept me and all my gear dry on the 2nd night when it poured.
@@thecappy yeah the bottom is very thin, I always use a sheet of UL tyvek as well. I have it in the drab green color as I do a lot of “stealth” camping and I don’t want to draw attention; most UL tents are brightly colored so won’t do when I’m camping in places where my presence is of questionable legality.
I'm leaning towards the Copper Spur 2 person as I have a Grand Teton trip for next year with my son. Seems like a good balance between weight and size. Great content. Really enjoy your channel.
I have the Tiger Wall UL2 and absolutely love it. I bought the footprint which is totally worth it. Personally I wouldn’t mind paying a little more if it was included; but I get why they sell it separately. Not everyone wants it and it does add 4 oz to the weight if you’re a gram weenie. I’m probably going to pick up a Copper Spur 3 (and footprint) soon to use for car camping and a longer stay base camp tent. I like the trekking pole shelter mod. I have a Duplex from Z Packs too; depending on the trip it’s about 50/50 which tent I take. They both set up in the same amount of time but the Duplex is like half the weight. It’s only downside is it doesn’t pack up as small and being a trekking pole tent; if I want to move it I have to completely break it down and set it up again. Tiger Wall I can pull the ground stakes and pick the whole thing up and move it wherever I want. I’m a gear nerd so forgive my ramblings.
I have the Tiger Wall 2 and as a solo hiker it’s great. I really can’t imagine two people in it for a long trip. The only thing I don’t like is the fly zippers when they are wet. Other than that it’s all good. I have moved on the Zpacks Duplex mostly for weight savings but for then money the TW is great. I got mine on sale at REI for 300.00.
I have the Tiger Wall UL2 and the Fly Creek UL1. The Fly Creek is okay, but I don’t like it for all the same reasons you stated, plus I found the 1-person version makes me feel claustrophobic. The Tiger Wall is a palace in comparison. It’s fairly new for me, and I’ve loved every minute in it so far. Thank you for this video! With Dan’s video, you guys have every detail covered!
The 2 person Cooper Spur does weigh more than other ultralight/ lightweight tents; however, it is NOT more bulky as the tent body and rain fly are more compact than a Zpacks Duplex (regular size), and folds up/ stuffs super small!
I just got a “used 4 nights” Fly Creek ul2 with footprint included, for $140. I normally hammock camp, but I wanted a lightweight option for a “go to ground” option without breaking the bank. Ground dwelling is an inconvenience in itself. So the small cons of this tent won’t add much to sleeping on the ground for the price I paid.
i have the tiger wall platinum... pretty fantastic by all counts... 41oz packed with the footprint and its just beautifully constructed. amazing ventilation, great guy out points, awesome stakes, great storage. my only gripe with it is the zipper gets caught in the zipper guard while zipping closed from inside the tent a lot and its hard to prevent. only thing id change is the color of the fly, wish i could order a tan one or dark blue like the tub and the large gody colored big agnes logo is ugly.
I've got all three of these tents. Wore out the UL 1 after about 120 nights kayaking and backpacking. I have the older Fly Creek UL2 with the side pull outs and it works great for a solo tent. I don't understand why they dropped the side pull outs. I have the older Copper Spur HV UL2 and don't use it much. Saving it for when I wear out the Fly Creek
Cooper spur all the way it’s been outstanding in many environments for me it’s quick and easy to set up just be careful if it’s windy I almost lost mine off a cliff when I was packing up lol it was funny but could have not been. It’s been 100% in bad weather
@@BackcountryExposure when you take all your stakes out and it’s windy it b comes an ultralight kite haha it was all my fault for being in a hurry I love this tent it’s pricey but get it at REI on sale and it hurts less and is well worth the money
I’m a big fan of the Copper Spur. I never thought I’d see the day where a tent like that was considered “a bit heavy”. I’ve had UL tents now for close to two decades, and to me the Copper Spur is super light without sacrificing all the wonderful features mentioned on this video.
@@bradbaston7186 In my opinion, 100%. When it comes to free standing UL tents, the two best I’ve ever used are the BA Copper Spur 1p, and the MSR Hubba 1p. I actually have both (I have other 2p tents as well), and they’re similar in weight, quality and price. I won’t pick a favorite between the two because I use them for different trips, but the BA has a lot of bells an whistles that are simply glorious. It’s tapered so the foot area is made for feet, and that makes the body area extra luxurious. The MSR is a rectangle, which is simply a different config and without all the storage options inside. As a side note, my Copper Spur has the Mountain Glo option, which I also really like for not many additional grams.
I have the Cooper spur 3p, and tiger 2p. Love them both. Take the tiger out for just myself and pup cuz I really don't ever like true 1p tents... too snug. And the copper 3p when wife comes along. Also have a nemo 2p which is my go to for multi day and weight is a concern, but overall love BA. Best pockets and internal storage features in the game!
I used to own a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 (which I think the Fly Creek may have replaced?) and found it to be a pretty darn good single person tent. I didn't experience any of the draw-backs mentioned in the vid and I was in all kinds of weather. Getting in and out of it-I found a little constrictive and inconvenient. That was my only gripe. I used it for an entire Summer pedaling across the country. So, when it was stolen, I went with the BA Copper Spur UL2, that and I didn't mind the extra weight as I now travel by motorcycle (as opposed to a bicycle). What's another pound or two? I find it much easier to get in and out of, the extra room inside is much appreciated as is the extra room in the vestibule (I have/want to carry extra gear on a motorcycle). As for the awning? I haven't used that feature. If it was wider at the connection to the tent, so as to perhaps keep the entrance dry(er) when it rains, like say, a proper porch roof-I might be more appreciative. As it is, I like it a lot! If I needed a tent for two, I'd go for the UL3.
I have the Tiger Wall UL 2. My biggest complaint is the fabric. You have to use a ground sheet which will add weight. Somehow I split the bottom with the groundsheet under it, remaining intact. Not sure how that happened. I don’t really plan on using it with the puppy at the moment because of that. But overall I do really like the spaciousness and weight of the tent.
@@BackcountryExposure I've always been told that a groundsheet/footprint is absolutely necessary to save the bottom of your tent, but do you think that's true? If not, I might stop taking mine! It's just more weight and setup.
@@michelledapark I haven’t used a ground sheet for a few years. I just pay attention to my tent site area and clear out anything I think would be an issue. I’ve yet to have a punctured pad.
@@BackcountryExposure just to chime in, where I’m from in the eastern woodlands there’s sticks, pine needles, and tree roots everywhere a groundsheet/footprint is necessary.
I picked up a Tiger Wall 2 at PCT Days for my son from Rainy Pass Repair. Took it out this weekend and it’s a super roomy one person tent for him and all his stuff. Plus got a sweet deal on it. Just needed a wash…
I saw that tent there, lol. Also saw mostly REI tents used and for sale. I tried to like my tiger wall, as I said in Another post, I live in granite. The semifreestsnding part was too frustrating, for me.
I've been looking at the Copper Spur 2. I currently have a Durston X-Mid 1p, but I will be adopting a dog hopefully soon and will need something a little bigger I think. Here in Canada tho the prive of BA tents is A LOT! so it's on the list, but not at the top. If the X-Mid 2p becomes available by the time I get a dog, that would be my first choice 😎
I have a Tiger Wall UL 2 for longer solo backpacks (2 lbs and super roomy for 1) and the Copper Spur HV UL 3 for backpacking with 2 (under 4 lbs but can share the weight). I’m an admitted BA fanboy, but they deserve the accolades they get. Great company with great gear.
Nice video dude! I went with the copper spur 3 bike pack version haven’t taken delivery yet but can’t wait to try it out.. it seems to get good reviews
Great comparison video Devin. I concur, I like my Copper Spur UL3. I use it for everything. Solo or with Kristy. I'm ok carrying the extra 1.5 pounds for the added space. Great tents. I'm still in the market for a lightweight, zero or below, down, non mummy style sleeping bag though. Any recommendations? Great video. Take care.
I have the previous model of Fly Creek HVUL2 and it has denier up the wall and the mesh is more than half way up the walls and there are guide outs on the underside of the rain fly to increase volume and structural integrity. I think I’m the friend you are referring to on that one? Seems like they short cut the newer model for less weight. I’ll keep mine. But I do wanna try the Tiger Wall.
Awesome video! I have the Fly Creek UL1 and it is super tight in there. Looking at the Copper Spur and Tiger Wall UL2. Which would you go for? Thanks for the info on all these tents!
I have the CS 1P right now. Tons of pockets & not sure if I will look foe more compact tent like SMD or whatever. I like the Tiger lighter weight. How does it do in wind compared to CS?
I've found the TW UL2 Bikepack to be a great tent - super-sturdy despite the light weight - but the doors area little restrictive and a damp/wet fly sags onto the inner in the toe corners = damp sleeping bag foot box.. considering a CS HV UL2 to replace, just wish they'd do it in the same Solution-Dye.. Orange is too attention-seeking if you want stealth and the while I like the green, for that reason, it is dour inside. Why not offer a bright inner, like the LONG version, and only offer certain tents in the eco-friendly option? I don't get it..
The tiger wall zipper snags badddd. Is the copper spur any better? NOTE: im aware of the modifications you can do to fix this, but heres an idea, when big anges is already re releasing an entirely updated version for environmental sustainability, they could have fixed the problem
Hey Devan! Love the channel helping me pick the best budget gear! Looking for the best lightest 4 person family backpacking tent, so far I see the “Big Agnus Copper Spur HV UL4 Tent 4 person and 3 season” that is only 5lbs 8 oz for a 4 person tent! Do you think this is the best light family backpacking tent option for 4 person or do you think there is a better one? I have a wife and 3 small kiddos to stuff in there. It’s not cheap at $650. Thanks!
I've read all the replies B4 composing the following. Throughout this video, I've mentally been comparing each tent to my own Hilleberg Enan. None of the Big Agnes tents are comparable or even in the same class. None of the Big Agnes tents can be pitched as quickly as the Enan, especially in strong gusty winds or provide the bomb-proof shelter of any Hilleberg. I'll never again have to struggle with trying to attach the fly to a tent when it's gusty windy. This is merely my opinion.
Looking to buy a free standing tent for the wife and I. Looking at the paria Zion. But is there any other you would recommend for under $250-300? Thanks so much. Really enjoy your content!
Hey Devin, I'm really really curious about your opinion on backpacking with a dog in the copper spur? Do you think the tent floor is to fragile? Or would it hold up?
It’s not the most robust floor for a tent. A good option to consider is get one of those pocket blanket type things from Amazon and put that down on top of the tent floor inside and that will help protect the tent.
You have a Big Agnes problem. Wanna talk bud? 🤣 Great comparison! I have a Big Agnes Mtn Glo 2P. I love it but if I bought again I'd spend the bucks for the lighter one.
Big Agnes tents are really worth the money. We got the "Manzanares HV SL3 mtnGLO" when it was on sale, two years ago and we are really happy with it. The 3 person option is a little bit on the luxury side of things but it makes life in the tent much more enjoyable. Great review by the way.
There used to be a line you attached from the inner tent mesh on the walls to the rain fly that helped with making the tent more stable. Those got removed on the solution dye model. So now the rain fly side wall guy lines don’t do anything to help stabilize the tent in heavy wind.
The video was great and spot on. But I lost it when you said you might be in the tent with your wife or whoever you're with. I just hope your wife doesn't watch this video. Lol
The Fly Creek is sooooo close to being perfect. Has such a great footprint but lacks the strength in structure you mentoned. Imagine it in a freestanding model!!
Pure coincidence. This was not sponsored in any way. If a video is sponsored, you’ll hear me specifically call out in the video that it’s sponsored, and you’d see a “paid promotion” banner show on the video.
The one that’s cheapest is best because it just simply doesn’t fucking matter haha. I think their main tents are so over priced it’s insane. I got a discounted discontinued model (Big Agnes Manzanares HV SL1 mtnGLO Tent) for $250. I saved roughly $100 vs retail price. Lifetime warranty and saving up to $300 for an added 1-1.5lbs is well worth it to me. I won’t notice an extra 2 lbs while hiking when it’s all said and done haha. Can you tell the different between a 38 lb pack and 40 lb pack? Nope haha.

Whoa that’s odd. I almost never use a ground sheet anymore. Hope I don’t regret that.
Thanks!
@@BackcountryExposure just to chime in, where I’m from in the eastern woodlands there’s sticks, pine needles, and tree roots everywhere a groundsheet/footprint is necessary.
What's funny is that Naturehike copied the Fly Creek with the Cloud-up 2 but corrected the flaws of it, and all that at a fraction of the price.
And 3 times the weight.
@@pct2025 Not true.
Whatever tent you buy, get a side door. Front doors are such a pain in the ass.
I agree!
I use the tiger wall ul1 and love it
I picked up a Tiger Wall 2 at PCT Days for my son from Rainy Pass Repair. Took it out this weekend and it’s a super roomy one person tent for him and all his stuff. Plus got a sweet deal on it. Just needed a wash…
Dang! That's a nice find. I didn't realize they had gear for sale at the show.
@@BackcountryExposure $65 :) Cant beat that...
My Fly Creek UL2 is the older one with side guy outs and it has been awesome in high winds and still comes in at 2lbs
Hey mate this was SUPER helpful. thank you!
Nice video dude! I went with the copper spur 3 bike pack version haven’t taken delivery yet but can’t wait to try it out.. it seems to get good reviews
I absolutely love my coper spur
So good!
I wanted to like the Nemo Hornet. After comparing it against the Tiger Wall, It was an easy decision to get the Tiger Wall.
Take care.
Thanks! Id point you to the Nemo disco. The spoon shape is nice!
I watched Dan's video earlier but 👍to both video's! Nice to have several opinions. Thank you both very much.
Thanks!
Thanks for an informative video - I'm likin' that Copper Spur UL2 a lot for a comfy 1 person tent
You would be the friend!
Awesome video! I have the Fly Creek UL1 and it is super tight in there. Looking at the Copper Spur and Tiger Wall UL2. Which would you go for? Thanks for the info on all these tents!
Good video, brother!
What is a “price point”? Is it similar to a “price”?
I have the CS 1P right now. Tons of pockets & not sure if I will look foe more compact tent like SMD or whatever.
I like the Tiger lighter weight. How does it do in wind compared to CS?
Does anybody have experience with the Big Agnes Backtail 2?
Copper spur does not snag, so long as you pull the top zipper first
A drone overview might be a nice visual.
Thanks!
Helpful review. Thanks 🎉
What pillows are you showing in the Copper Spur tent?
I've read all the replies B4 composing the following.
Throughout this video, I've mentally been comparing each tent to my own Hilleberg Enan. None of the Big Agnes tents are comparable or even in the same class. None of the Big Agnes tents can be pitched as quickly as the Enan, especially in strong gusty winds or provide the bomb-proof shelter of any Hilleberg. I'll never again have to struggle with trying to attach the fly to a tent when it's gusty windy. This is merely my opinion.
yea well you have a $1000 tent....I would hope that it is better
Looking to buy a free standing tent for the wife and I. Looking at the paria Zion. But is there any other you would recommend for under $250-300? Thanks so much. Really enjoy your content!
Still trying to find a video that shows how the poles of these tents pack down.
In my experience the Fly Creek 2 is so fast to pitch and collapse
Thanks-this was helpful.
Guy lines weren’t even used in the high wind photo for the fly creek UL2 lol
Hey Devin, I'm really really curious about your opinion on backpacking with a dog in the copper spur? Do you think the tent floor is to fragile? Or would it hold up?
It’s not the most robust floor for a tent. A good option to consider is get one of those pocket blanket type things from Amazon and put that down on top of the tent floor inside and that will help protect the tent.
Hey, thanks for replying on a old video and giving me your input. I appreciate it!
You have a Big Agnes problem. Wanna talk bud? 🤣 Great comparison! I have a Big Agnes Mtn Glo 2P. I love it but if I bought again I'd spend the bucks for the lighter one.
I love gear talk! Yeah! Ha ha!
My Fly Creek HV UL2 has guide outs? I’ve had it for at least 2 years. Nit sure why yours didn’t come with it.
There used to be a line you attached from the inner tent mesh on the walls to the rain fly that helped with making the tent more stable. Those got removed on the solution dye model. So now the rain fly side wall guy lines don’t do anything to help stabilize the tent in heavy wind.
@@BackcountryExposure ahh! That sucks, I have still have the same issues you mentioned. Love your videos man! Thank you!
You took the time to include numerous links in the description, but not any info of the three models. 🤦♂️
Um… the info is the video. Links will take you to be able to read more info.
Why did two channels do a video with almost identical titles 8 months ago? Was this video and the other sponsored by Big Agnes?
Pure coincidence. This was not sponsored in any way. If a video is sponsored, you’ll hear me specifically call out in the video that it’s sponsored, and you’d see a “paid promotion” banner show on the video.
not my Gusti
Dans video was a big hit huh 🤔 lol
Ha ha! Total coincidence as I filmed this over a month ago. He and I thought it’d be funny to use the same title.
I wondered if they both were sponsored videos, but doesn't seem like it
@@arcana1973 nah, just a coincidence. And I always am transparent about sponsored content.
@@BackcountryExposure that's what I thought. Usually you announce it, or have the disclaimer
The one that’s cheapest is best because it just simply doesn’t fucking matter haha. I think their main tents are so over priced it’s insane. I got a discounted discontinued model (Big Agnes
Manzanares HV SL1 mtnGLO Tent) for $250. Nope haha.

The copper spur ul2 is awsome. Well worth the money. If you complain about it im sure its the pruce. Welll all i can say is stop being poor
The TRUTH about Naturehike Mongar is you wont get ripped off!
It's a lot heavier... it's a great tent though I agree.
