the old Mk2's/MK3's were so distinctive in the orange and black livery, the newer Dmu's never felt the same , the Mk4's on the cork line, however, were very refreshing i think

They should reopen the western Rail corridor, Athlone/Mullingar railway lines sooner then later we will have more trains.

Thanks Monty, I've most of my 'archive' footage up but still have one more vid to come of a journey to Athlone in 1996 aboard Mk2s. Just need to find the time to transfer it off old dusty 8mm tapes :P

Give me the Cravens (my favorite), or the Mark 2 any day, you could get your head out the window for a smoke, take a photo and a toilet you could swing a cat in plus if there was any sort of problem you could get off yourself without waiting for the doors to open. Smoking aside I don't like the new trains no open-able windows. Was on one in the summer of 2019 now I know how a turkey feels like in the oven at Christmas.

Nice video. It looks like the line that connects the Ballina line to the Athlone/Dublin line was disconnected at the time though there are engineers there. Maybe they were replacing the track. I see track all stacked up. For some time presumably, the Ballina line was isolated.

Thanks Carl. You've lost me a bit here though, are you referring to Manulla Junction? If so the setup back then was very different to now. Branch access was via points at the Dublin end of the halt, now it's at the Westport end. Compare these two pics:
