All makes sense, but the calls to action in the video did not stand out enough to draw a client's attention, in my opinion. Why did you choose not to make them stand out more?
This is all super helpful. I’m just getting going and definitely feeling a little overwhelmed by all of the things I need to do to get started in the industry. You managed to break a lot of things down into reasonable chunks and give some great action steps on how to better my portfolio. Thank you!
Great video, great animations, great designing. I'd love to become a professional logo and animation designer one day and could make it all by myself. Keep going :D
Yes I would like to see tut on "contact form process," (Code side) & tut on animations. Do you prefer JS over CSS? Also do you subscribe to the Figma/XD/Webflow design platforms with the former now able to be read by a plug-in called "Anima?"
Hey Will, love the video as always, but I have a problem with your ad for Envato. Whenever you do an ad for Envato you say something about the simple license Envato offers and how it's easy to use because even if you end your subscription you can still use what you downloaded. I don't know if they have different terms of agreement in every country, but the terms I read cleary state that once I end my subscription, I, for example, have to delete every font I ever downloaded from them. So the way your ad is phrased bugs me a bit. Like I said might be a country thing, but it is probably a good idea to check your terms of agreement for your Envato subscription again before the next sponsorship. Like I said not a critique of you and your work, it just bugs me everytime and I finally decided to comment about it.
I've got this from the License Terms page on their website, hopefully this clears things up for you: "If you unsubscribe, you can no longer use items from Envato Elements. However, any existing uses that you registered are still covered." It would make sense that you wouldn't be licensed to continue using assets for future projects without registering their use though, which you would need a subscription to be able to do - but you would be covered for projects you created and registered while you still had your subscription :) Hope that helps!
QUESTION: There are Graphic design jobs that lists "Bsc degree in Graphics or Any Bsc degree" as a requirement to apply for the jobs. my question is; as a school dropout who is good a Graphic Design and well spoken, how do i go about this? I'm asking this question because most Graphic design work has the above as a requirement.
Some agencies will require a degree in design to apply for a job - I personally don't see the purpose of this when it comes to creative work and wasn't a requirement for us when we were hiring as ability speaks louder than words, so we asked applicants we were interested to take a skills test instead as you can be very qualified on paper, but not have enough real world experience which in my opinion matters much more. Although you can't change the way companies choose to hire, you can apply for jobs which don't require degrees to apply and make sure your CV and portfolio are the best they can be (perfect video for you here!) to give yourself the best chance :) Hope that helps!
I would add fictional work! That's what I and a lot of other designers did when they first started out. The client wants to see that you can solve a problem, and your portfolio is where you can show how you solved it!
Thanks for the content, currently going through the ups and downs of designing my portfolio/ personal brand and wanted to know if there is an alternative option to a website portfolio because right now buying web space isnt a option?
There are other options like Instagram and Behance and loads of others as free web space to showcase your work and what you're about, but a web portfolio is a real game changer when it comes to SEO and putting yourself across as professional :)
That cta needs some work will. Cta needs to stand out that it’s a button to be pressed and is the background of the social icons meant to have a color transition behind it? Also when you click the menu it’s hard to exit the menu except at the far top right.
Hope you guys enjoy the video! Check out our portfolio here: www.willpaterson.design

Hey there, a lovely video❤,
But what if I am new to designing, and I don't have any client work.
So, what can I add on my portfolio?
