Just got my Full Frame 35mm F1.8! I am so happy I decided to wait and not pick up any other 3rd party lens . This one is so compact and light and it renders very sharp images. Super excited!!!
I gree with your comment about the 24mm, there is something special about that lens. I can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I love the images it produces, and the colours always look so rich. Especially those tones you get at sunset.
@@sumsagro4049 I'd love to see it compared against the 1.2 as well. But, i would also like to see the 1.4 because they're somewhat in the same price range
I pre-ordered this after weeks of contemplating whether I should or not. The ZA 35mm 1.4 was a toss up with the QC focus issues, the Sigma 1.4 was sharp, but AF was unreliable, and there isn't a 35mm Gmaster. So, I believe I'll be happy with this lens until Sony ever comes up with a 35 Gmaster. Thanks Chris, your honesty and non-biased reviews are much appreciated.
The first Review I actually found useful due to both the good information AND the images shown. Other reviews I've seen showed jpgs with somewhat strange exposure and weird tonality, so thanks for your effort! I'd be super interested to see a comparison or just some comparison shots from a tripod between this and a 35mm 1.4 lens: both compared wide open, both compared at 1.8 (to see differences in vignetting, rendering, etc.), both compared in terms of actual FOV. Would be amazing if you could provide sth. like that :)
You know, for a travel lens, the 28mm f2 is really similar focal length, bokeh, weight to the FE 35mm F1.8. But with a much lower cost. What do you think? Does it worth upgrading to the 35mm?
I really appreciate all of the sample images included in the video and the raw files as well. If Sony knocked $150 off this lens they'd probably sell 3-5x more of them so I'm not sure what they're thinking, but it does outperform many more expensive lenses as well. Finally got a deal on an open box model and I am psyched! Gonna get tons of use out of this for sure. Thanks for the video!
Chris, nice concise review! Making your raw files available for download is really appreciated as my biggest hesitation with this lens was CA -- and your raw files allowed me to confirm that it doesn't seem to be as big of a concern as I was expecting. I also agree that Sony should have priced it 20% less and they might have a lot more takers on this lens. I've now subscribed to your channel. : )
Dominique Richardson I have both focal lengths.. while the 24 has some nice looks and angles, I find myself shooting 35mm 99%. 24mm looks weird for regular full body shots. If you were to pick only one, I would say go for the 35mm. Its more versatile. You can get the 24mm down the road as an accessory for fun.

Based on your really helpful review and the universally negative price complaint, I will finally take the plunge on that 24GM you love so much, and then pick up the FE 35/1.8 when the price drops to "normal". Sony have established a trend for really milking early adopters, the 24GM seems to be an exception (for GM lens at least).
Totally agree. The price for this is ridiculous. Then again on the upside, many people are selling their 35mm F2.8 on eBay for around $400-$450AUD.. (with the current exchange rate is like US 23cents..lol)
The 28mm f2 is great. I had that lens for ages, it’s like half the price too. I think the 35 is better optically but you know, depends what you want, 35 looks quite different to 28

Hi Chris love your review! I am struggling with 24mm 1.4 vs 35mm 1.8. My favorite focal length is 35mm but can use wider for travel and 24mm can crop to 36mm. What's a better travel lens, 24mm or 35mm? I am using a A7iii camera and have a Tamron 28-75mm.
Does anyone that own the 35 1.8 have a constant low volume static-like noise (best heard when it's quiet or putting your ear on the lens)? Mine does. Everything is working fine but I'm just hoping I didn't get a bad copy.
Thanks, I did the preorder so waiting for it, I own already the samyang and I thought on selling it after I get the 35 but the images are super nice so, most probably I will be keeping it too.
Obviously I own the lens and I definitely would be more careful in the rain than I would with my 24mm GM, the 35 doesn’t have the rubber gasket on the back to stop moisture getting between the lens and body either
Thanks Chris. Very helpful. You referenced the 24mm 1.4 G. Would you mind elaborating on the IQ and other differences? I’m debating the between the two; recently rented the 24mm for a trip to Italy. Loved it! But it’s heavier (and a lot more expen$ive). Thanks again.
Chris keep up the great reviews! Yes - I wish the new Sony 35 was a tad less ~ say $499 USD (I think they would sell like hotcakes!). That said, I've opt'd for the Samyang "Sammy" / Rokinon 35 1.4 (which I got as a demo model for $400). I know it not quite the same. Have you tried it yet? I would like to know what you think of it? I'm looking forward to your 45mm review.

I had the sayang 35mm f2.8 for about 4 months, it blew me away how sharp the lens was for the price. The size was also fantastic truly a pancake lens, it was amazing for traveling!! AF was good and had no issues what so ever. Build quality was low as you would expect with a lens at that price point. Very plasticy and felt like a toy (very fragile). Ultimately sold it as soon as I heard the Sony 35 was coming out, but if on a budget I highly recommended picking the samyang up!
