LeBron James has insane passes like Larry does here too, would love to see y’all watch the best NBA assists of all time! Thank y’all so much for the daily uploads and the genuine reactions y’all bring
Two videos you have to react to. Your respect for Larry Bird will grow even more. 5 times Larry Bird was hurt. 4 times Larry Bird played injured. It'll blow your mind.
Bird is the only trash talker that I know of that could back it up! Lots of players talk trash but usually can't back it up! Lol. When Bird fell face down he fractured his right cheekbone & came back to win the game!
Pat Riley, who was the coach of the Lakers during the Bird era, and now the President of the Miami Heat once said, and I quote “if I had to pick one player to take a shot to save a game, I'd pick Michael Jordan. If I had to pick one player to take a shot to save my life… I'd pick Larry Bird.”
@@oldmanballer5088where did you get that from. Magic was a great shooter but he was more a team player. The 1st NBA championship game he played in his rookie year when Kareem gets hurt...the best shooter on the Lakers and the NBA at that time, Magic was told he needed to step up and take charge...as a rookie mind you. He does. He even puts himself at center and won the Championship MVP. Years later when Kareem was in his last years and not the player he once was, Riley told Magic he needed to start shooting more and take charge of the scoring. Magic is the Lakers 5th leading scorer of all time. Don't say he was not a shooter when he was.
@@areguapiri that’s a word for word quote from Riley….he’s LITERALLY telling you who’d he pick, so no he wouldn’t pick Magic to take a shot to save his life because HE literally said HE would pick Larry Bird.
In the playoff game against the Indiana Pacers, Bird didn't just come back and play with a fractured cheek. He also had a concussion and double vision. He went on to rack up an additional 17 points and lead the Celtics back to a victory and probably played the next 2-3 games with double vision. Larry Bird isn't human.
I watched that game on TV (my brother was diehard Celtics fan) and remember Person talking that mess. Bird saw that and couldn't take it, so he came back out and showed the rifleman who was boss.
You guys have to watch "Magic & Bird", the 2010 documentary about them. They saved the NBA and paved the way for Jordan and the superstars to come. Its an unbelievably great documentary.
It is an excellent doc. Notably, the Magic/Bird rivalry started in college - particularly the '79 NCAA finals. Then the Lakers/Celtics rivalry was massive in the 80s. And, as noted by others, they helped save the NBA, which was a dying league. They weren't even televising playoff games live in most markets.
“If I had to pick one player to take a shot to win a game, I’d pick Michael Jordan. If I had to pick one player to take a shot to save my life, I’d pick Larry Bird.” - Pat Riley
I grew up in the Boston area in the 80's. You can't understand how huge the Celtics/Lakers rivalry was. Larry and Magic were fierce opponents and great friends. Larry was the first to reach out in support when Magic was diagnoses with HIV. Shortly after, they played together on the Olympic Dream Team, and remain friends to this day. Both great guys.
One of my favorite thing about Larry Bird is that he barely missed games in his career. He missed 22 games in the 90-91 season, which was one of his last (he retired after the 91-92 season), but beside that, he rarely missed a game. He gave his all for the team and the fans, and they loved him for it. One of the greatest players of all time and an Indiana legend
After Bird fell and fractured his cheek during that Celtic/Pacer game, he went to the locker room and the trainer told him he was done with that game. When the trainer stepped away to get something, Bird decided to go back out to the bench and told the coach he was going back in to win the game. Like his father, Larry never let pain prevent him from going back to work.
Larry Bird won MVP three times. What makes it special is he did it in consecutive years. Bird was voted MVP in 1984, 1985 and 1986. After basketball he was named NBA Coach of the Year in 1998. He ultimately went on to Basketball Operations and was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2012 with the Pacers. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star in 13 seasons with the Celtics. He was a 3-time NBA champion with Boston in 1981, 1984 and 1986. But, he excelled everywhere, before and since the Celtic days.
Bird was so crafty he'd set players up early in the game in order to take advantage of them later in the game. He's certainly the most intelligent player of all-time.
It's hard to overstate the impact of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird on basketball. The NCAA tournament, which had suffered low ratings for years, saw the highest rated college basketball game of all time when Magic and Bird battled each other in the 1979 championship game. As the respective faces of the Showtime Lakers and the relentless Celtics they resuscitated an NBA that had been sorely lacking in competitive rivalries. Of the ten Finals trophies handed out from 1980-1989, EIGHT went to the Lakers or Celtics, and three were decided with the rivals squaring off head to head for the title. Bird won three MVPs in a row from 84-86, and Magic won in 87, 89, and 90. So, they took a league lacking in spectacle, and gave it maybe the greatest decade of spectacle we've seen in sport. Bona fide legends.
9:51 he's playing with a fractured cheek. There's a video somewhere where they interviewed on of the Pacers players about this game, and he said. "As soon as Larry went down i told my guys, 'we have a chance'". Once he came back i said, "well it was fun while it lasted."
And later about his fractured cheek which caused him to have double vision, and they asked him which basket he was aiming for and he said it didn’t really matter because he was gonna make it anyway
Larry Bird was said to “not be able to jump over the Sunday newspaper” yet he made up for it with an off the charts basketball IQ, unbelievable hustle and tireless work ethic. The Hick from French Lick who came from nothing proved it isn’t where you come from, but rather where you work to get to is what matters. Great player and competitor, he and Magic Johnson’s rivalry is a big part of what saved the NBA
There is a line in the movie Space Jam that was hilarious. Michael Jordan is playing a round of golf with Bill Murray and Larry Bird. Bill Murray is talking to MJ and Bird about maybe trying out for the NBA himself because he can play basketball. Bird and MJ just kind of laugh it off. Bill says to MJ "It's because I'm white, isn't it?" MJ responds with, "Larry's white, so what," and Murray says, "Larry's not white. Larry's clear."
Now you need to watch Larry Bird his greatest passes re-edited. Also, when Larry came back in the game after fracturing his cheek (he snuck back in when the Dr. turned his back) he had a slight concussion AND double vision but still scored 17 points to help them win that game. His back was so bad, he would spend the night in traction at the hospital just so he could play in that days game. They do not come any tougher than Larry Bird. More please!
Underrated fact:there was no game or anything else scheduled for the night of Bird's retirement ceremony. Also underrated, how big he is. He is over 6 foot, 9 inches... Like Jokic, you're not supposed to be that big and have a passing and shooting touch like that. Check out the Making The Case video. Bird is a rabbit hole of info. The story goes that he learned his high release jumper, and trash talk, from his first job at the local hotel. He would play hoops after his shift, with the older, black worker. He learned his high release jump shot so they couldn't block it.
As one who is keen on Larry Bird and quite enjoys your channel, I’m truly glad you have taken the opportunity to react to this highlight video. Bird is amazing, the Bird-Johnson story is inspiring, and the Celtic teamwork from those years (especially 1986) is great fun and highly educational. Thanks for your contributions to RUclips.
Bro on the left, you don't have to apologize for your lack of NBA situations. We appreciate you trying to learn the sport and it's history. It's a beautiful game and I hope you're a new fan
@@DNReactsFor clarification, Bird snuck back out to the court when the team doctor had his back turned when he broke his cheekbone. Greatest Passer with New Footage (Re-edit) 🔥🔥🔥
no disrespect to larry bird but there's a documentary called the greatest player ever starring wilt chamberlain and in 1980 the nba declared the greatest player ever as bill russell
Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, and was what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched!
How did The Bird Man miss my notifications box? Top 5 all time, no debate lol. Great vid as always. Edit: I do believe what ultimately hindered his career was his terrible back injury. If I'm not mistaken, he hurt himself paving his mother's driveway.
The similarities between him and Joker are insane! I feel like I'm watching his highlights from this post season. You can tell Jokic has studied bird and has mirrored his passing style.
A little context on the impact of Bird vs Magic (and Celtics/Lakers in the 80s), the arrival of Bird in '78 & Magic in '79 is credited as the 2 most important days in NBA history because the NBA were on it's deathbed entering the 80s....Then the rekindling of this old rivalry in the 80s with Bird & Magic at the center of it practically "saved" the NBA...Essentially Bird & Magic crawled, so Jordan could walk.
Oh no they arrived at the same time, 1979. They played against each other for the NCAA championship in 79 and both commenced their rookie years in the NBA in 79. Bird was actually drafted in 1978, but that was in his junior year, the Celtics drafted him early and waited a year.
Exactly!👍The NBA Finals was on tape delay at one time before Magic and Bird came into the league, imagine that in America today? They both Saved the league. And what also made it special both was from the Midwest and played in different conferences.🏀🏀
@@Big_Tex True true- I was more illustrating the importance of Bird having to go to the Celtics when the 79 NCAA season ended...People nowadays will never appreciate how every piece fell exactly where they were supposed to fall in order for the NBA to survive.
Larry Bird had a concussion also to go with the fracture cheek. Larry was at the end of his career by that time and it was game 5 of 5. Larry thought this might be his last game. They ended up winning and then losing to Cleveland the next series. You should check out larry bird passing, his trash talking and 5 times larry refused to quit.
Larry LEGEND as he known in Boston.Dude made me nervous every time he had the ball being a teen LA Lakers Fan in the early 80s.I was hoping his loaded Celtics team got beat in the Eastern Conference playoffs before the NBA Finals His pure shooting, smarts, hustle, toughness, was AMAZING!🏀🏀🏀
i did do and will rank these individual stats in this EXACT order the #1 scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson #3 scoring from larry bird and #4 rebounding from kareem abdul-jabbar
Story goes, when he fractured his cheek, he was told to sit out the remainder but he snuck out when the trainer wasn’t looking. Also, he played with a horribly injured back from putting in a driveway for his mom. There are videos that go over his injuries, and he never took pain meds. One tough SOB.
That Pacers game was something. He had hurt his back doing concrete work at his house and it was evident on the court that his time was almost over. Everyone knew Bird's career was ending soon. When he went down and went back to the locker room the one of the announcers said something along the lines of 'We may have just seen the end of the career of Larry Bird.' Then he came back and just took the game over the energy was beyond words.
You truly need to react to "A Courtship of Rivals". It's a documentary about Larry and Magic, how they saved the NBA and went from bitter rivals to best of friends. They are so connected that the NBA presented them with lifetime achievement awards on the same night. There was even a Broadway play about them titled "Magic Bird." A Courtship of Rivals is the best sports documentaries I've ever seen.
i did do and will rank these individual stats in this EXACT order the #1 scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson #3 scoring from larry bird and #4 rebounding from michael jordan
Larry was the only person to gather League MVP , Coach of the Year, ,and General Manager of the year, so his greatness didnt stop with his playing retirement
Also, add onto Larry’s greatness people always talk about how Michael Jordan was the best trash talker of all time. We all know that Michael Jordan said that he learned everything from Larry Bird but just look at what each player did. Michael Jordan would do the craziest shit to you and then afterwards we talk shit. However, Larry Bird would tell you exactly what the fuck he’s gonna do to you and even though you had that knowledge he would still do exactly what he said he would do. There’s a reason that James worthy said he would rather guard Michael Jordan over Larry Bird because Michael Jordan was going to make you look slow, but Larry was going to make you look fucking stupid
Some Bird stats... In rookie year he came up 4th in the season MVP voting, his second year he won the championship and came up second in the MVP voting. Also came up second in his 3rd and 4th years and then won MVP the following 3 seasons after that. He won 3 championships, 12 All-Star appearances. Won 3 3 pt shooting contests. One point away from a Quadruple Double. He is the first 50-49-90 player and did that from 85 to 87. Most impressive is in 85 he injured his back and he played from 85 to 92 with compressed nerves in his back, and had one of his back discs removed. Before every game his doctor's had to fix his back just so he could stand for four to six hours to play ball. Side note: Michael Jordan was a rookie in 84. Jordan didn't win anything until Bird, Johnson and Kareem retired.
Larry Bird was my childhood hero and I watch videos like this expecting to say “those guys just don’t understand how good he was” - but you two seem to get it. Kudos.
Yes, that was Larry Bird coming backt o the same game to win it with a broken cheek. That is not the only story like that. When they say he played hurt, it is crazy the injures he played with. There is a video about that, I think it is about him being the toughest guy in basketball. His passing video is good, as are the trash talking videos.
Great reaction. Thank you. Should really check out Larry Bird greatest passer of all time video re-edit with new footage. AMAZING his court vision and IQ was insane. Also his trash talking video like why Larry Bird terrorized NBA players. Subscribed.
Thank you for the comment and the suggestion Paul, really appreciate this, will check he’s on the watch list. We run regular polls on our Discord for all members to have a say in what videos we do next if you’re not already on there 🙏 Also have separated request threads for each sport (makes it easier for us to track suggestions)
Start with Rookie of the Year, 3 straight MVP's, 3 straight 3-point shooting championships, the original member of the 90-50-40 club (and did that on multiple occasions), Coach of the Year, AND Executive of the Year.
He had a fractured right cheek and a concussion from when he hit his face on the floor. He was in the locker room watching the game. He saw his teammates starting losing without him so he came back in the game with his fractured cheek and concussion and destroyed the other team.
This is the best video to introduce someone to Larry Legend. There's other videos that dig deeper into stories of his trash talk, absolute gold and worth the watch.
Yeah he played with a fractured face. The doctor looked at him in the locker room and told him he was done for the day and needed to go to the hospital. Larry agreed but the game was on the tv and Larry was watching the Pacers celebrating and he started getting angry. Then the doctor went into the other room to get something and Larry snuck out and ran back onto the court and checked himself into the game. The doctor came back, figured out what happened, and ran onto the court and started telling yelling to everyone that he’s playing with a fractured face, and that’s how the tv announcers found out so quickly.
7:44 This play has been analyzed for nearly 40 years. It's one of Bird's most iconic plays. That's HOF Isiah Thomas inbounding the ball for Detroit (Pistons).
Not only did he suffer a broken cheek in that game, but when he was in the locker room, he told the trainer he understood he wasn't going back in, but when the trainer left the room, he ran out of the locker room back onto the court. He was later also diagnosed with a concussion... and already was playing with a broken back from a previous injury.
Larry told his team that they should always be ready to get the ball from his, because if they're open, he WILL get it to them. He could make great shots, but he was always looking to see who had the best position and he knew where everyone was all the time. I've heard other top tier players from Bird's time say he was just as dangerous without the ball as with it. Some players would slack off when they didn't have the ball so they didn't have to be guarded as closely, but they couldn't rest against Larry. If you're looking for more Bird footage, there is a passing highlights video that is amazing, and also a Bird trash-talk video. Sadly I can't find the exact links, but "Making the Case" is a great one and here is the link for that - ruclips.net/video/Pxf4RzocHN8/видео.html.
The Boston Celtics/Los Angeles Lakers rivalry in the 1980s was awesome! The Celtics' style was slow and methodical (Larry Bird, Kevin McCale, Robert Parrish...), while the Lakers' style was fast-paced and up-tempo (Magic Johnson, Michael Cooper, James Worthy, and the great Kareem Abdul Jabbar). Even the coaches had polar opposite styles/personalities. It was must-see tv for sports fans in America!
i did do and will rank these individual stats in this EXACT order the #1 scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson #3 scoring from larry bird and #4 rebounding from kareem abdul-jabbar
If you like passing = please see "greatest passer ever - with re-edit" and you will see how great Bird was as a passer. Bird had point guard court vision, could rebound like a power forward and shoot lights out from anywhere on the court. Bird won ROY in his first year and was 4th in MVP voting. For the next 8 years in the MVP Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and 2nd again. Bird created the 50-40-90 shooting club and did it 2 seasons in a row. Many feel Bird was the best all around player we have ever seen.
When Larry and Magic entered the NBA college games (70's) were getting more tv viewers than the NBA. Larry (Celtics) and Magic (Lakers) are largely credited with saving the NBA in the 80's.
Great reaction guys! Subbed for more Bird vids. Some more videos that are great are Larry Bird Trash Talking, 5 Times Larry Bird was Injured but he refused to Quit, 4 crazy stories that prove Larry Bird was the toughest player in the NBA, Making the Case and as many people have comment Magic Johnson and Larry Bird a Courtship of Rivals documentary. It’s an hour and a half so most reactors break i into 2-4 parts. The best sports documentary ever imo.
loads of larry bird trash talk videos out there. he was not afraid to share his thoughts of other players. larry and magic's rivalry owned the nba in the 80s, and even held back Michael Jordan for a few years before he could finally take the crown in the 90s.
After you watch a couple more of Bird’s videos, find his video on passing. During the first half, you’ll see the exceptional passing similar to the other greats in basketball, then in the second half you’ll realize why there was never a player like Larry Legend, The GOAT!
no disrespect to larry bird but there's a documentary called the greatest player ever starring wilt chamberlain and in 1980 the nba declared the greatest player ever as bill russell
The two videos I would suggest are "Larry Bird passing highlights re-edit with new footage" and "Larry Bird GOAT SZN highlights". Both utterly full of sauce. Larry had a _deep_ bag. And he was a tough son of a bitch. Came back in the game with a broken face and got buckets. Players in the current era will sit out for a week off of cold-like symptoms..
The deeper you go with Larry Bird the crazier it becomes. He played half of his career with broken back, nobody speaks about his passing if you watch the clip that he is the greatest passer , it's amazing , he is better passer than Magic , he's better shooter than the percentage shoes . Nobody is so good in mach wining shots ever. He fu*ked up his finger before even start his NBA career . He was brutal trashtalker you can"t get it from one video , but there is the case for the goat , and a series of stories about him from the other NBA stars . This man if he was with the teammates like Magic or Jordan and was healthy may exclude all the other from the goat conversation. Especially in today game that is like tailor made for him. When asked about their top 5 Jordan starts with Larry, Magic starts with Larry and LeBron starts with Larry. And don't forget Larry played 13 seasons , one of them only 6 games due to operations , and the last 7 years of his career with a broken back that wasn't ever repaired , he never takes painkillers and... watch , seriously , for me Michael Jordan was the best, but after learning more and more about Bird , i'm not so sure anymore .
If watch where you paused at 2:16, the other team is celebrating,/laughing/in awe of Larry's 60 pts he is scoring AGAINST them. How many times have you seen the other team that happy about getting whooped? It was just one of those amazing performances that you had to respect and couldn't be mad about.
Because the Hawks team during that game, unlike the fucking Dipshit, young people who are into the NBA today, actually realized how incredible Larry Bird performance was. They didn’t just have LeBron’s dick in their mouth because that’s what they grew up with.
Yes same game Larry snuck back out after the doctor stepped out for a minute and made sure they won the game - but after this game they had to take him to the hospital and drill a hole in his face to move the broken bone back into position. Larry was no quitter for sure
Clayton Crowley did a series called Making the Case. There are eight players he believes that have a substantial claim to being the GOAT of the NBA. He makes a video for each of them and explains why they should be considered the GOAT. You guys should check it out!
Larry Bird is the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 club, the only person in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year, 3 point Champion three straight years, MVP three times straight (When competing against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and many more), Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
Those Bird and Magic Finals were awesome. I was old enough to remember those very well. It was June and blazing hot outside and it was a great childhood memory. I was twelve to fourteen during those battles.
i did do and will rank these individual stats in this EXACT order the #1 scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson #3 scoring from larry bird and #4 rebounding from kareem abdul-jabbar
We were big Boston fans because of hometown boy Robert Parish. He and Larry were incredible. Those NBA Champ Celtics teams are some of the best ever. And I miss the short shorts! lol
That game in which Bird came back from getting treatment in the locker room is just the tip of the iceberg as far as Larry Bird's toughness goes. He's been tough ever since high school when his father committed suicide. He played through so many injuries that other players wouldn't have had the guts to play through. There is a RUclips video out there that describes all the various injuries Larry Bird played through. I think you should critique that one also to get the true essence of the man. In Boston he is a God!!!
You cannot say Larry Bird without saying Magic Johnson as well. They are completely and utterly intertwined for all eternity. They had the greatest rivalry of all time. As for more bird stuff you have to check out his trash talking stories. Those are, also, Legendary.
Bird did play with a fractured orbital bone in his face. After the game he had to go to the hospital and get a hole dripped in his face to pull the bone back into place. Bird played a good portion of his career with a serious back injury as well.
This video barely scratches the surface on Larry Legend. One video that would give you a great taste of his passing is _Larry Bird Greatest Passer of All Time - re-edit_ Bird is the complete all-around player. No holes in his game. There are a jillion Bird stories because he would tell his opponents, while next to them on the court, what he was going to do... and then do it. And the man was tough as nails. Two videos that give a great insight into that element are _5 Times Bird Refused to Quit_ and _4 Crazy Stories.. Larry Bird_ They each add an element to the understanding.
Bird has probably the highest Basketball IQ in the history of the game. Hes been MVP (received 67% of all MVP voting for the entire 1980s) and won both Coach of the year and Executive of the year.
For a cool take on Bird, there are many videos of former opponents talking about playing against Larry. One of my favs has Gary Payton, multiple Defensive Player of the Year, and Jamal Mashburn marvelling at Larry. In another, Isiah Thomas says, "If you took all of us, Magic, Michael, myself and Bird and locked us all in a room, Larry would probably be the one to walk out of the room at the end of the day."
Lakers great James Worthy said, "I'd rather guard Michael Jordan than Larry Bird. Michael would make you look slow, but Larry would make you look stupid." You guys also gotta react to one of the Larry Bird trash-talking compilations told by his opponents. Bird would come out of a time-out when they'd called a designed play and tell the guy(s) guarding him exactly what the play was gonna be, and then make the shot anyway. During pregame warm-ups he'd tell an opponent who he knew would be guarding him "I feel like about... 43 tonight," then he'd come out and score exactly 43 points by early in the 4th quarter, then check himself out of the game.
The battles between the Lakers and the Celtics, in the 80s, were so amazing to see. Magic and Bird played against each other in the '79 College Championship Game. Bird's Indiana State was a Cinderella Story all season long. Magic's Michigan State team was near the top of the rankings, all season. Michigan State won in a 2 point game. The Indiana State team was Larry Bird and some other guys. Indiana State had never been a basketball "Mecca", and they have never been since. I have Bird in my top 3 of all time. But, he's heads above anyone else in basketball IQ. He was the Einstein of the game.
Definitely in terms of basketball IQ Larry is top 3 to me. I get arguments of him being top 10 overall, but he is up there with Magic, Lebron, and Jokic for all-time most cerebral players.
Good post...1 correction, Michigan St beat ISU by double digits...10 or 11 points. MSU built a big early lead...OSU cut it to 6 at 1 point in the 2nd half, but then MSU pulled away and won fairly comfortably... especially in an era with no 3 point shot.
i did do and will rank these individual stats in this EXACT order the #1 scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson #3 scoring from larry bird and #4 rebounding from kareem abdul-jabbar
You can't mention Larry Bird with mentioning Magic Johnson and vice versa. They played against each other in the NCAA college national championship game, they both get drafted into the NBA the same year to two teams that had deep hatred amd rivalry against each other for years prior, and Bird and Magic rivalry wqs so intense that they both would xheck the papers (tjis was before ESPN) the next day to see how each other did. They hated one another until they got to know each other when they made a converse basketball shoe commercial together. They later became great friends. So great that when Magic was diagnosed with AIDS and did his press conference to retire from basketball and most people turned their backs on him, including some members of his own team, one of the first people to call him to ask how he was doing was Larry Bird Larry Bird amd Magic Johnson saved the NBA. Two great documentaries are Magic and Larry, A Courtship of Rivals and ESPN 30 for 30 about the rivalry between the Lakers and the Celtics. They played in the NBA when the NBA was at it'd best.
You should watch a video about the Bad Boy Pistons. Bird and Magic defined the 80s, Jordan defined the 90s, but for a two year stretch while Bird, Magic and Jordan were all playing at the same time, the Pistons won 2 championships, and people didn't like them, you'd find them interesting
It's funny that basketball fans think the Pistons created that style of play. They're just bent because they did it against Jordan. There are many videos proving that other teams played the same way. The national bias against Detroit inspired Detroit vs. Everybody. I know you know this. #GoGreenGoWhite
Another great reaction, guys. That last second steal, pass, and score against my Pistons decided which team went to the NBA Finals. It was a soul crushing moment, but the Bad Boy Pistons won the next 2 championships, though. If you like passing, check out Magic Johnson and Jayson Williams.
It wasn't just a fractured cheek he also had a concussion and was seeing double yet still came back out and scored 20 some odd points while seeing 2 baskets

@@Patrick-xv6qv magic was not a great shooter - he was a great scorer and amazing point guard!
He said that his first shot, he aimed for the left basket, and it went in, so he kept aiming for the left basket.
Sitting out wasn't an option. God hes one of the ugliest sexy guys on the planet.
He was watching the game and saw Chuck gloating like a male hen he put a s top to it 🏀🏀🏀
Larry Bird’s the feeling you get when you want to beat your older brother
I watched that game on TV (my brother was diehard Celtics fan) and remember Person talking that mess. Bird saw that and couldn't take it, so he came back out and showed the rifleman who was boss.
You guys have to watch "Magic & Bird", the 2010 documentary about them. They saved the NBA and paved the way for Jordan and the superstars to come. Its an unbelievably great documentary.
A courtship of rivals! Best ever!
Absolutely the best sports documentary ever!
Excellent suggestion!! They did save the NBA!! Wonderful story!!
magic and bird: a courtship of rivals. you have to react to it but you should def watch it!
❤
I grew up in the Boston area in the 80's. You can't understand how huge the Celtics/Lakers rivalry was. Larry and Magic were fierce opponents and great friends. Larry was the first to reach out in support when Magic was diagnoses with HIV. Shortly after, they played together on the Olympic Dream Team, and remain friends to this day. Both great guys.
He was a killer--6'9"--great court awareness and anticipation, great passer, murderous shooter, amazing basketball IQ. "Larry Legend"
Larry Bird played with the most heart i've ever seen. He was a true all around team player.
But, he excelled everywhere, before and since the Celtic days.
no disrespect to cedric maxwell but the 81 finals mvp should've been awarded to larry bird
@@youtuber3328100%
Bird was so crafty he'd set players up early in the game in order to take advantage of them later in the game. He's certainly the most intelligent player of all-time.
Larry worked his ass off EVERY day to perfect his craft. EVERY DAY!
Omg so many good Larry videos! The Larry Bird "Making the Case" video by Clayton Crowley is a MUST watch!
Yep, you beat me to it. They packed out the Garden just to see him retire.
Thank you so much for the comment, we really appreciate it 🤝 Have noted the suggestion too
Bro on the left, you don't have to apologize for your lack of NBA situations. We appreciate you trying to learn the sport and it's history. It's a beautiful game and I hope you're a new fan
Thank you 🙏🙏 Really appreciate it and definitely a new fan!
Finally!!!! You're actually reacting to the GOAT!!! lol
Haha what a player!

That's how I felt about Magic!
i did do and will rank these individual stats in this EXACT order the #1 scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson #3 scoring from larry bird and #4 rebounding from kareem abdul-jabbar
Larry's retirement ceremony was on a night with NO GAME. The Boston Garden was SOLD OUT.
In the Atlanta highlights (starting at 2:33), watch how the opposing team players on the bench get caught up in watching him like they were fans.
When he went down and went back to the locker room the one of the announcers said something along the lines of
'We may have just seen the end of the career of Larry Bird.'
Then he came back and just took the game over the energy was beyond words.
Don’t forget he was Rookie of the Year for the 79-80 season !
Magic and Bird ushered in a Golden Age of the NBA. All the players in that era had to be tough in the paint.
I loved this!! Larry Bird is a legend! He played with everything he had! Very great mind for the game! Thanks for sharing this one!!
Thank you, we really appreciate it 😀
Happy you guys are impressed, Larry legend
Subscribed.

Larry Bird is definitely Top 5-6 all time. 3 straight MVP’s and finished 2nd in MVP voting 5 other times. I remember watching him play.
Absolutely! No Doubt👍 I feared the those Celtics teams being an 80s L.A. Lakers Fan..Sheesh!😳 Because of number 33 was playing.
Who are the other 4-5 players? Do not say Jason Kidd!
Start with Rookie of the Year, 3 straight MVP's, 3 straight 3-point shooting championships, the original member of the 90-50-40 club (and did that on multiple occasions), Coach of the Year, AND Executive of the Year.
Idk about that. He only has 2 championships. MJ,Bron,Kobe,Magic,Tim Duncan, Shaq, Wilt, Curry, and a few others i would rank above him
@@larrythecableman6963 yeah but he had a short career due to back injuries and was never at his full potential due to a hand injury

He had a fractured right cheek and a concussion from when he hit his face on the floor. He was in the locker room watching the game. He saw his teammates starting losing without him so he came back in the game with his fractured cheek and concussion and destroyed the other team.
The videos of his best passes is great too!
Larry Bird Trash Talking is a must watch
7:44 This play has been analyzed for nearly 40 years. It's one of Bird's most iconic plays. That's HOF Isiah Thomas inbounding the ball for Detroit (Pistons).
Larry was on the tip of his toes to keep his feet off the line. Incredible awareness.
LOL. Most reactors seem to miss when Bird slams his face into the floor at 8:22. Your blank expressions say it all. 😂

Larry Birds best passes of all time is a great one too. He has a lot of passes like a quarterback in it. Definitely gotta do the magic and larry story
Bird BEST all-around player. Won MVP 3 years in a row. Also won the first 3 3 point shoot-outs.
You finally did it. My favorite player for my favorite team.
When Larry and Magic entered the NBA college games (70's) were getting more tv viewers than the NBA. Larry (Celtics) and Magic (Lakers) are largely credited with saving the NBA in the 80's.

Nice video, I like watch your video on a daily.👍
He played with a fractured cheek, a slight concussion, and double vision.

Larry Legend❤
Legend indeed!
They used to say Bird was playing chess when everyone else was playing checkers.
Æ of true, except it was more like Larry Bird was playing chess, and the other team was still trying to figure out a set up the checkers board
This video barely scratches the surface on Larry Legend.
One video that would give you a great taste of his passing is _Larry Bird Greatest Passer of All Time - re-edit_
Bird is the complete all-around player.
Larry Bird_
They each add an element to the understanding.
Bird has probably the highest Basketball IQ in the history of the game. Hes been MVP (received 67% of all MVP voting for the entire 1980s) and won both Coach of the year and Executive of the year.
People forget he was 6"10. He hustled so much he only lasted 12 years
For a cool take on Bird, there are many videos of former opponents talking about playing against Larry.
So great that when Magic was diagnosed with AIDS and did his press conference to retire from basketball and most people turned their backs on him, including some members of his own team, one of the first people to call him to ask how he was doing was Larry Bird
Larry Bird amd Magic Johnson saved the NBA.

I watch Hockey, not Basketball. This is amazing. His vision, anticipation, passing, subterfuge IQ and skill remind me of Gretzky at times.
When you mentioned Larry passing between the opponent's legs, it was the third time in this video that he passed between someone's legs.
During this period, it was almost a given that the NBA finals would be Celtics v Lakers. The golden age of basketball.
It really was
Magic and Bird, greatest rivalry and greatest friendship. Through High School, College and NBA. Hollywood couldn't dream up a story this good.
Thank you, really appreciate that 🤝 Have both of these on our list, hope to get to them soon, thanks for the comment
It wasn't just a fractured cheek he also had a concussion and was seeing double yet still came back out and scored 20 some odd points while seeing 2 baskets
