Here is the celebrity filled number 1 single for comic relief.
    Lyrics
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
    When the day is dawnin'
    On a Texas Sunday mornin'
How I long to be there
With Marie who's waitin' for me there
Ev'ry lonely city where I hang my hat
Ain't as half as pretty as where my baby's at
Is this the way to Amarillo?
Ev'ry night I've been huggin' my pillow
    Dreamin' dreams of Amarillo
And sweet Marie who waits for me
Show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weepin' like a willow
    Cryin' over Amarillo
And sweet Marie who waits for me
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
And Marie who waits for me
    There's a church bell ringin'
Hear the sound of joy that it's singin'
    For the sweet Maria
And the guy who's comin' to see her
    Just beyond the highway
    there's an open plain
    And it keeps me goin'
    Through the wind and rain
Is this the way to Amarillo?
Ev'ry night I've been huggin' my pillow
    Dreamin' dreams of Amarillo
And sweet Marie who waits for me
Show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weepin' like a willow
    Cryin' over Amarillo
And sweet Marie who waits for me
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
And Marie who waits for me
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
And Marie who waits for me
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
And Marie who waits for me

I'm an Aussie and I was living in London at the time this came out. I can't tell you how big it was at the time. So much money raised for charity and all of those people you see in the video are all well known Brits (mostly). Seeing this again has brought back so many memories for me. Love Peter Kay!

This was a charity video, most of the people appearing are British Celebrities, all too many no longer with us. The man with the Ostrich was Bernie Clifton, and that was part of his act. Kay himself appears in different guises, the man he is pushing in a wheelchair is in fact himself, and he was one of the men fighting.

Near the end of this video one of our national treasures (as we say) a comedian who is no longer with us called Ronnie Corbett on the right falls. They were actually on a treadmill which you don't see. Ronnie was 74 at the time and everyone rushed to help him up whilst trying very hard not to laugh. They were going to cut that bit out but Ronnie himself insisted they keep it in as it was so funny. There might be a video somewhere that shows them on the treadmill and everyone looking at the film afterwards discussing cutting it out.

This is just brilliant and funny when you watch it. A lot of these were what we were brought up with on children's tv in the 80s and 80s. Bernie Clifton used to run around the stage inside his ostrich puppet, and the other side, you have Keith Harris and Orville the Duck. You also had Mr Blobby, the pink character with yellow spots who appeared on a Saturday evening family show called Noel's House Party. They also had a hit single which was a Christmas No.1 called Mr Blobby. The life-sized bear with the gent the other side of Peter were in a kids TV show called Rainbow, The puppet yellow bear was the main feature on a kids show called The Sooty Show as early as 1955 to 1992 with the grey dog called Sweep, with Harry Corbett hosting the show until 1975, and his son, Matthew taking over in 1976.
At the beginning, you had characters, Ken and Deirdre from a UK TV drama called Coronation Street which started in 1960, and is still going strong today. Bill Roach who plays Ken was in the very first episode, and is still in it today. The shot in an alleyway is also from this show. You also had Roger Taylor and Brian May from Queen, who decided to make part of the music video, I Want To Break Free based of Coronation Street.
Check out the music video by Peter Kay, where he sings with others to the song, 500 miles by The Proclaimers.

The green duck puppet is called Orville and was used by ventriloquist Keith Harris. They had a couple of novelty songs in the UK in the early '80s. They were a staple of TV variety shows and some of the material was considered risqué for prime time audiences

The 2 at the beginning are Bernie Clifton, who had an ostrich as part of his routine, and Keith Harris is known for his ventriloquism with Orville the duck. The, 'polka dot guy', is Mr. Blobby. Who was a bit of a, 'celebrity', in the 90's, who basically fell over a lot and destroyed things. Popular with kids at the time. Then there's Geoffrey Haines and Bungle Bear from popular kids show, 'Rainbow', which was a bit of a British institution, having been on air for the best part of 2 decades and well known by all in the UK. The 2 puppets on his shoulders are Sweep on the left and Sooty on the right. Again, both extremely popular and part of the British zeitgeist for decades at this point.

This was done for conic relief and featured nan actors, comedians etc. Fun fact Peter Kay was miming. Comic relief is a British charity, founded in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Sir Lenny Henry in response to the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia. The concept of Comic Relief was to get British comedians to make the public laugh, while raising money to help people around the world and in the United Kingdom.
Need to check out another Peter Kay classic from comic relief. Im gonna Be 500 miles by the proclaimers which features many actors, comedians etc

I think you have to be British to get this. All the people and cartoonish things are will known icons here - but few are known in America or the rest of the world. Consequently it is barely funny unless you know the references. I am not sure you even recognised Tony Christie the original singer who is an American. The song is an American song which was popular in the UK...

Your first instinct was right, Amarillo is a Spanish word meaning 'Yellow', so that probably was the original pronunciation. Does yellow have a strong connection to Texas, as in The Yellow Rose Of Texas? The song was written by two Americans who used the way of saying it in English, so maybe the pronunciation has evolved over the years.
