To this day, this is often referred to as one of the greatest live performances of all time because of the way he commanded the stage and commanded the crowd. Keep in mind, this was considered to be after Queen's heyday and with this performance, they reinvigorated old fans and gained new fans across the globe (as this was televised in multiple countries) and put out a lot of great music after this. The way he worked that crowd is still fantastic to watch over and over again.
The two things that will tell you everything you need to know about Freddy. When a reporter asked him what instrument he played, he said The Audience darling, The Audience. & Asked if he wanted to be a Rock & Roll 'Star' he said "Oh No"... I want to be, 'A Legend'. ... Damned if he wasn't 100% correct on both.
If you watch at the end of the performance, the far right corner of the stage, there is a light blinking, and when Freddie signals everyone to stop, the red light goes on meaning the power was going to be cut. They timed it perfectly. You wouldn’t expect anything else from Queen.
I fell in love with Queen back in 2018 when I saw the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. I fell hard down the rabbit hole and have never come up for air. I have literally watched this live aid performance thousands of times and like you said it never gets old, and is always exciting! I fell madly in love with Freddie Mercury after seeing that movie. ❤❤I watch this multiple times a day and probably will continue to do so for a long time to come. Do yourselves a favor and watch Queen Wembley 86 full concert. It is fire 🔥 and in my opinion Queen at their absolute best. Thank you for another great reaction! You guys are awesome.
Freddie and the entire band took total command of every stage they graced. They all understood the assignment, and gave it their all everytime. ❤️👑🎸🥁🎤🎹 Queen Forever♥️👑
I remember I was at a party with friends watching live telecast of live aide ,it was first of its kind and a really big deal.Queen and Freddie Mercury blew everyone out of the water..it's still gives me chills .His still missed ❤ ❤❤❤❤❤
I hope he realized how much we fans loved him. He was gone too soon and hearing him still makes me weepy. Such a fantastic performance artist. We were so lucky to experience him.
Queen absolutely owned that show!! Blew away every band on the bill! So glad that they did it!! My all time favorite! Rest in peace Freddie. We love you and miss you very much.😪
At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 35 years of active service, and over 3 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears. My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise, we also went to the last Queen concert they ever did. I saw Queen live 8 times in all (my wife only 6 ha ha), they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.
Legend has it that as David Bowie was going out onto stage and Freddie was exiting, Bowie said "Thanks Freddie how the fuck am I supposed to follow that."
Apart from the day I got married, THIS was one of the greatest days of my life. My friends mum was very good friends with Brian May and Brian gave us 4 VIP backstage passes but, every time I see the crowd I remember being so jealous LOL. I wanted to be in there as well. Thank you to Freddie, Brian, Roger and John, for making it an UNFORGETTABLE once in a lifetime experience and an awesome day, one I will never ever forget. ❤❤❤❤
12 hour music event . back then never done before, broadcast via Satellite Worldwide...only other broadcast like that was Elvis Aloha Live Hawaii..., this may not mean much today, but it was pre Internet, no digital or wireless technology, notice every instrument and cameras have cables, this entire concert was epic, groundbreaking, and then Queen, who was supposedly washed up, yesterday's news came out and tore the place Down. at 15 years of age watching this, it's remained etched in my mind for over 40 years!..❤
I remember watching this in Australia, i was glued to the TV thoroughly enjoying every band - then Queen came on!!! The whole show culminated right there and then. It was basically like - opening acts - QUEEN - closing acts. Freddie Mercury the only man who could hold a mic 🎤 in one hand and the whole world 🌎 in the other

I still remember sitting in front of the TV for 24 hours watching this Live Aid event in 1985. Each band only had a 20 minute spot, and the bands getting on stage after Queen didn't wanna enter the stage. As mentioned, this was NOT a Queen concert. Radio Ga Ga is the song that Lady Gaga got her stage name from. Freddie had all 90000 in his hand those 20 minutes. I still cherish the time I got to see Queen in 1984 and 1986 with Freddie on vocals. They had this guy playing the piano parts when Freddie was not. He was put in the back out of sight. The year after this in 1986, they filled Wembley Stadium again with their own classic concert from that year. That concert is available on DVD as well.
"This Guy!`" you are referring to Spike Edney who still plays with Queen now on their tours with Adam Lambert. He also has his own band called the SAS Band - it's worth checking them out

@@seanwilliams9443 Thanks. I sure will check that out. 👍
I used to work with a guy who was in the audience at the 1986 concert. He was mugged in the toilets and had all his camera equipment stolen. Never got it back.
The estimated number of viewers who tuned in to watch the concerts, in 100 different countries was 1.5 Billion people, this was the largest viewed show in history, I do believe
If ever there was a demonstration of “how to hold your audience in the palm of your hand”, Queen at Live Aid was it! Ok, so the audience was around 1.2bn people, but that didn’t scare them! They gave everybody a show, doing what few on the bill had done before; play a stadium! Geldof allegedly blackmailed them into appearing; “can you afford to be the one band who didn’t play?”… THAT was your answer!
The songs in the set were Bohemian Rhapsody Radio Ga Ga Hammer to Fall Crazy Little Thing Called Love We Will Rock You We Are the Champions. Glad you guys enjoyed it. I don’t know of you noticed, but during Crazy Little Thing Brian May is using 3 different guitars. And acoustic to start, than a Telecaster, and finally his Red Special.
Queen rehearsed for 5 days straight before this to ensure everything was perfect timing wise, it shows that when you put in the work not only your fans but the whole world are rewarded with this truly amazing never to be repeated live performance.
Freddie Mercury... was a legend, he owned the stage and the crowd loved him for it. I got to watch Live.. I was 14 years old. It was awesome. Being a big fan of Phil Collins and Dire Straits and Queen.. Queen made it a great concert. David Bowie ran onto the stage afterwards to do his part. He was great too.. but Freddie and Queen 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💪🏾👍🏾 🎤 🎹
The greatest frontman of all time, leading one of the greatest bands of all time, to play perhaps the greatest set of all time. A special moment in history, and i will forever be envious of anyone that got to attend.
I was a young solderer in the US army at Ft Bragg NC (Now Fort Liberty) on the Saturday this show aired. I was at a rather noisy, rowdy cookout at a Friends house. The TV was on and a few were gathered round it watching the acts . Then QUEEN took the stage . Five minutes after they began performing everyone at the party was magnetically drawn to the television where we all sat in total silence and these Magical masters of music wove their legendary sounds. After they finished we all sat a few awkward moments in silence until somebody finally said " Holy $#*!....that was freaking unbelievable". Little did we know then , that it would become known as the greatest Live Performance of all time, and Freddie's little interaction with the audience as he did his famous " AYYYOH" would become known as the "note Heard Round The World". There never has been since , and doubt there ever will be again the likes of Freddie and the Boys. I still tear up today listening to his Pure passion , and musical love that he soaked every word and note with . RIP Great Freddie ...You were truly the "real thing" , while many others just aspired to be the momentary thing.
wow thank you from everyone in the UK i was 16 when that was the most amazing performance i ever watched and had their cassette tape a year before that. They were amazing and Freddie and his crew stole that show without a doubt. I will never forget that performance for the rest of my life amazing ha ha
Ja, ja ... "Band Aid" was 1985 in the OLD Football "Wembley" Stadium in London ... of course Queen wasn't the only band invited ... I saw it with my former friend Lars Müggenburg ... but I will never forget ... at the age of 14 ... Stefan, Dortmund [Germany]
Approx 80.000 were in wembley stadiam, In my opinion "Queen" are one of the best bands ever,, Freddie one of the best vocalists ever, Very powerful music.. My stepdad was near the front row. RIP "Dad" at the Live Aid gig,,,I always watch the Live Aid gig and well up, knowing my stepdad was there having a awesome time. He passed away at the young age of 53. Love your You Tube content, keep up the great work.
Everybody had a 20 minuet set. Queen, despite the "ad libs" and "crowd interaction" and re-jigged their songs to fit - came in on time with a only few seconds off. Roger Taylor on drums kept the beat. Consummate professionals. The man who played the audience to perfection. Absolute masterclass of how do a live performance - blew everybody else away. I loved growing up in the 70's!
To me what made this performance so great was Live Aid was an all day event broadcast live all over the world and most every major band or performer was there. The expectation and hype was so great that when the bands began to play, most all were a let down, until Queen took the stage and electrified that crowd and as a result electrified the globe for 20 or so minutes. They literally blew every other act off the stage. It's still legendary til this day.
If you watch Freddie when he is dancing with the cameraman, their wires get cross while he is singing the man holding the wire for the camera tries to untangle them pulling on the mic cord Freddie noticed and grabbed it before it hit him in the face and never missed a note to hammer to fall. That is what a perfect performer he was because he did it so smoothly, no knew anything was wrong. Queen was and still is the greatest rock band. Spike Edney played the piano during crazy little thing love.
The greatest 20min set in rock history. Queen was from a different universe. Queen was on a different level. AND THEN THERE'S FREDDIE. HE WAS BORN TO BE A ROCK GOD. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER. R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU WE HEAR YOU SINGING FROM HEAVEN
72,000 people were at Wembley for Live Aid, 89,000 were at JFK Stadium in Philly for the US half of the benefit and 1.5 billion people watched it. AMAZING!
The songs were, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Gaga, Hammer to fall, Crazy little thing called love and you know the last 2 we will rock you and we are the champions.
The greatest showman.. ❤ this concert was on paper meant to be epic and no one knew just how epic it would end up being.. imo the best live performance ever.. 🎉
Absolutely adore you guys.!!! Thanks for caring and sharing the great music/bands/concerts of my generation. And oh man what a time it was!! To be in your 20's; not really having much responsibility for anything (maybe bringing napkins, but not a compilation of fast food joint napkins, to the family bbq LOL). Of course, being of age and living on your own; I not only moved out but went from the US to Germany (US Air Force) -- yah freedom!! Queen and Bee Gees plus Deep Purple! Oh boy!! Keep up the great reactions please! Much Gratitude xoxo
I was so lucky to be able to be at this concert way back in 1985, queen stood out amongst all the other artists, and had the whole of Wembley Stadium eating out of their hands, especially with the incredible Freddie. It’s so good to see that all these years on great people like yourselves, are having such an incredible and positive reaction to both and queen and also the crowd. Thank you. Also, I found your reaction to James Blunt monsters incredibly moving, just like this song is to everybody that hears it. Thank you guys for putting up such great content. It’s a pleasure to follow you.❤🙏🏻👍🏻
None of the reactors ever mention that on Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian May plays 3 different guitars on the song. He starts with an acoustic, switches to a Telecaster then finishes with his Red Special
@@philjones45How u doing, MAJOR Queen fan here, the fact that he's able to navigate 2 changes in the space of 4 minutes (for this version anyway), that's pretty big cos nobody did that back then.. unless you the stand thing that guitarists use for Acoustic live, but PHYSICALLY handing them over between tech and artist in what would be a 10 second space is pretty extraordinary
We went to it it cost us £25 per ticket and being totally honest we weren't to sure what to expect. Without doubt it turned into one of the greatest days of music we have ever had the pleasure of being at. Queen, U2, Bowie, The Who, Elton, Sir Paul McCartney, Dire Straits and Sting The list just goes on,
the best 25 minutes of music EVER.... remember this was not even a "Queen" Concert but you listen to the crowd singing word for word from the first note to the last.... And again.. HOW i mean HOW can they sound this good LIVE... with no auto tune or computer enhancements,,,, just pure raw talent from the whole band...
No frontman in rock commanded an audience like Freddie did. No one. Not Plant, not Daltrey. No one. I had just graduated from college two months prior to this concert. Myself and my brother (who had seen Queen twice before at MSG) were glued to the TV when it was their time to come on. They took our breath away. To say they stole the entirety of Live Aid is an understatement. Even Bob Geldof admitted it.
@@TheWolfHunterZ The songs in the set were: Bohemian Rhapsody Radio Ga Ga Hammer to Fall Crazy Little Thing Called Love We Will Rock You We Are the Champions.
Every audience is a Queen audience, their music is infectious and joyous (kinda). You can tell they enjoy making good music and then the audience can't help but have fun also having the best music doesn't hurt. The UK was ruled by a different Queen that day for 22 minutes. I think maybe it gave them a shot in the arm but they had just come off of.a huge tour. The world was in love with Queen. Just another quick note, Brian changes guitars three times during Crazy Little Thing Called Love. The band does it all in the name of great music.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned such was the genius that is Freddie Mercury, one of the stipulations of the contract for live aid is that he and the band play at 6pm that way the live feed started in philidelphia and the rest is history
GREAT REACTION, YOU 2. I could tell, you were REALLY feeling it. Truly, a LEGENDARY performance. I saw it on MTV, in July 1985, age 11, and We expected no less from QUEEN.
Thank you for your video. My first time watching you. This performance was near perfection, it set the bar for all future performers and performances. Now combine these factors with the reality that Freddie was suffering the effects of his illness. Queen was the preeminent stadium band, lyrical masters, arrangement geniuses; they displayed pure raw talent musically speaking; combined with a carefully and masterfully excuted stage presence and band identity that has transended thru the years for all future generations. I could not be more pleased that you enjoyed them as you did. I look forward to more of your videos.
This is funny about Live Aid "On how Geldof got artists to agree to play, Live Aid production manager Andy Zweck states, "Bob had to play some tricks to get artists involved. He had to call Elton and say Queen are in and Bowie's in, and of course they weren't. Then he'd call Bowie and say Elton and Queen are in. It was a game of bluff.""
was 13yrs old when Live Aid took place...I watched it all...and hadn't really paid attention to queen until they took the stage.I just remember my jaw dropping and not closing until they left the stage. From that moment on I was a fan and still am 39yrs later!
Remember it's a band, not just Freddie, they all wrote songs. In this set the songwriters are, Bo Rap (Freddie), Radio GaGa (Roger), Hammer to Fall (Brian), Crazy little thing (Freddie), We will Rock You (Brian), Champions (Freddie).
YES!!!!!! I am now 68, feel 40. We were there and I can tell you it was a spiritual experience ✨️ Unbelievable memories ❤❤❤ Now I get to share our generations music with the grandchildren and they LOVE all of it Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker; Dame Shirley Bassey, etc, etc; etc........❤
FYI, it's a guy called Spike Edney who fills in on piano/keyboards from the wings while Freddie is standing up singing, and sometimes plays rhythm guitar and provides extra backing harmonies. He's sometimes called the unofficial fifth member of Queen.
And I was just like - "yeah.. I'll just watch a bit of it since I've seen it all before so many times". And AGAIN I was forced to watch it all. You just CAN'T stop enjoying this performance. Freddie was a force of nature. He had it all. A true stage man who could make you feel that he was singing just for you, even if you are standing in a crowd of 100 000 people.
Oh man, what can I say, except this brings back so many incredible memories of what turned out to be one of the best days of my life. I was there in Wembley stadium 6 rows back from the stage, standing next to the girl in the black top on the guys shoulders. When I look at my 32 year old self rockin out with the rest of the crowd, I get goosebumps all over. I've witnessed many great live performances from top bands over the years, but this one by Queen has to be the best ever. Thank you so much for this reaction, now I'm going to sit and watch it all over again.
A few things to consider... This was not a Queen audience, but they won them over. His Dr had advised him not to sing that day. This was recorded in 1985, nearly 40 years ago! All acts, no matter who, were restricted to 18 minutes. Off camera, there are like traffic lights. At I think it was 16 minutes, the orange light came on, at 18, the red light came on and the power was cut!
If you look at the bottom in the middle when Freddie drops his arm for the final beat of We Are the Champions, you can just see the red light come on. Freddie timed it perfectly.
Could you imagine going to one of Queen's Concerts. By the time it was over you'd be as high as a kite. The Songs were Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You and a rousing We Are The Champions closed their set. This was all before Mercury and guitarist Brian May stole the stage during the show's grand finale with their acoustic rendition of Is This The World We Created?
The amazing thing about the crowd reaction is that this wasn't even a Queen concert. And therefore not a typical Queen audience. Just shows what quality can achieve.
I'm not a queen fan but I know the lyrics to a ton of their songs and can sing along to them. They're British icons!

You can't watch that man perform without smiling through the whole thing. One of the greatest entertainers to ever live.
You can hear his voice going in We are the Champions, and that just makes it better (good work by Roger doing the backing vocals too!)
They really display the difference in talent to the "famous" musicians of today. The 80's was a great time to be alive!!
So was the 60’s and 70’s.
I greedily soaked up all three wonderful decades.
Today is utter dogshit by comparison.

I remember watching it live on TV and thinking ' who has to follow this?"
not only British Rock History...World History!!!
@@LtdBoomer Indeed! I was being conservative and didn’t want replies from Beach Boys or Aerosmith fans!

The world..this is it,hands down
Freddie and the entire band took total command of every stage they graced. They all understood the assignment, and gave it their all everytime. ❤️👑🎸🥁🎤🎹 Queen Forever♥️👑
I remember I was at a party with friends watching live telecast of live aide ,it was first of its kind and a really big deal.Queen and Freddie Mercury blew everyone out of the water..it's still gives me chills .His still missed ❤
❤❤❤❤❤
Greatest concert EVER!!!
Best Front man by any Rock Band born on this planet ❤
Freddie Mercury
Now... Imagine being the next act to go out on stage.. 😳 😂 Freddie was a boss! ❤
It was David Bowie - one of Freddie's best friends!
Yeah David Bowie was next. He was amazing as well
Legend has it that as David Bowie was going out onto stage and Freddie was exiting, Bowie said "Thanks Freddie how the fuck am I supposed to follow that."
@@mcm0324 They should've done Under Pressure

Just wonderful, the next best thing to being there ! ❤
Apart from the day I got married, THIS was one of the greatest days of my life. My friends mum was very good friends with Brian May
and Brian gave us 4 VIP backstage passes but, every time I see the crowd I remember being so jealous LOL. I wanted to be in there as well.
Thank you to Freddie, Brian, Roger and John, for making it an UNFORGETTABLE once in a lifetime experience and an awesome day, one
I will never ever forget.
I watch the full Wembley '86 concert here on RUclips every couple of days. It's awesome!!
Remember taping live aid on vhs and thinking it was going to be hours until able to watch the Queen set again once they finished playing.
Hey guys, check out the crowd at the Green Day concert in Hyde Park singing Bohemian Rhapsody. It's amazing!
I have watched that numerous times its mind blowing.
And it was 40 years after the song came out.
The estimated number of viewers who tuned in to watch the concerts, in 100 different countries was 1.5 Billion people, this was the largest viewed show in history, I do believe
I was one of those billions. There's never been a better moment in my life since!! Music is the ultimate unifyer!!
I just Googled it,1.9 billion in 150 countries.

I watched this live in Australia on tv with my baby on my knee, hes now a grown man in a metal band.
Nothing musically has ever topped Queen at Live Aid… I’ve only watched it a hundred times 😂 No where near enough ✌🏼☺️🥰💛
The songs in the set were
Bohemian Rhapsody
Radio Ga Ga
Hammer to Fall
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
We Will Rock You
We Are the Champions.
Glad you guys enjoyed it. I don’t know of you noticed, but during Crazy Little Thing Brian May is using 3 different guitars. And acoustic to start, than a Telecaster, and finally his Red Special.
Plus 'is this the world we created' later in the show.
Thank you, I hoped someone listed the songs for them!
I soooo happy my dad took me se them live. I wasnt old but i still remember it. Freddie is still one of the best showmen of our Times.
What a lovely story and memory.
wow thank you from everyone in the UK i was 16 when that was the most amazing performance i ever watched and had their cassette tape a year before that.
Doesn't matter how many times I watch this. I could still watch it again and again
R.I.P. Freddie, the Queen.. .. may his music reign forever
R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
WE HEAR YOU SINGING FROM HEAVEN

Oh boy!! 20 minutes of genius bad ass rock and roll ever recorded by the best band ever with the GOAT of frontmen.
Because nobody cares.
I guess since you don’t care you think that applies to everyone else?
This is great beyond greatness, ladies and gentlemen. This is the most perfect 23 minutes of a concert performance ever.
I've watched this about 1000 times, and I still cry, everytime. Chills, grins, and tears.
Thanks. You know it’s going to be good when the crowd are going mental. Even when he’s tuning up.

Freddie clearing the field and owning the day - no one else came close. 😎
That was by far the best performance from live aid. Amazing.
Not detracting from Queen, but almost everyone else at Live Aid put on pretty bad shows to be honest.
His favorite instrument? The crowd.
He was the best performer ever! RIP Freddie my favourite band ever!
Aún viven desde adolescente. Esto es música lírica voz talento.
I get goosebumps and tears every time I hear this.
Wish I could have been there, RIP Freddie.
Oh yeah
Epic performance ❤
was 13yrs old when Live Aid took place...I watched it all...and hadn't really paid attention to queen until they took the stage.I just remember my jaw dropping and not closing until they left the stage. From that moment on I was a fan and still am 39yrs later!
Freddy is the best live performer ever exists, he is out of this world, nothing to compare.
I turned in live aid in 1985 awaiting the Black Sabbath reunion. Saw this Queen performance and knew I had just seen something special.

FYI, it's a guy called Spike Edney who fills in on piano/keyboards from the wings while Freddie is standing up singing, and sometimes plays rhythm guitar and provides extra backing harmonies. He's sometimes called the unofficial fifth member of Queen.
He was an absolute legend.

Hi from England 🇬🇧.
I was there as well, maybe 15 rows back, slightly left of centre, 19 years old, what a day.
Greatest rock vocalist of all time performance at the greatest concert of all time. Period.
