Unlike movies today, where a composer will sit and watch the final cut and compose pieces for the movie, Ennio Morricone was commissioned to write the score before principle photography had begun. So the director would often play the score while he was filming and this resulted in some of the very long takes in the film which have become its signature feature. Often Sergio Leone would film the actors from a distance. Then set the camera up and film them from close range and then finally close-ups of their faces. Then in the editing room he pieced together the scenes making them last for the entire movement of the score. It is EXACTLY the opposite of how movies are done today where the composer will cut the score to fit the scene. But the result is one of the most iconic Westerns to be made in large part because of how the score influenced the filming.
Don't get fooled by "a low budget western". The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is so, but so much better than any other western that's not even a competition. the Good, The Bad and The Ugly is one of the 10 best movies of all time. A masterpiece of the art of cinema. You can only compare it with other masterpieces of cinema. There aren't many. Amazing, amazing film.
Morricone, the GREATEST Italian Composer ever!.....Several Oscars for his Movie Scores.....his Western Work with Leone is Movie History!......what you mean is a Western Shootout.....and damn, this Movie has the Second Greatest ever (only Once Upon the the Time Beginning can Top this!).....this Movie is a MUST for every Cineastic.....and YEs,ECSTASY OF GOLD,the second part,it the official Intro of EVERY Metallica Show !
Yepp, and once you've seen the scene with Ellie Wallach running through the location, you simply will never forget that score set in that scene. It will be stuck in your mind forever.
take a listen to the late, brilliant patricia janeckova's renditions of, 'ecstacy of gold' & 'once upon a time in the west'! the latter, she sang & won an adult talent show called 'talentmania' in slovakia, aged 12!! patricia died from breast cancer, aged 25, last october!!
The effigy hanging was for the theme of the movie. It was about two outlaws going around the southwest, one played bounty hunter and the other was wanted, so when the wanted one was being hung for crimes, the fake bounty hunter who already collected the bounty, would shoot the rope so the wanted guy could escape.
The hanged man is from the movie"Hang'em High" were Eastwoods character was wrongfully hanged, my couson Ben Johnson is the actor that cut Eastwoods character down from the noose just in time; who then proceeds to seek vengeance.
@waylonjohnson1578 that maybe but this soundtrack is for the Good the Bad and the Ugly and Eli Wallach is the guy getting hanged in the film and Clint shoots the rope to save him.
I'm a rock / metal head by nature but I would love to hear this performed live in an orchestral venue. The array of sound, talent and coordination is mind blowing. Bravo! Bravo! 🤘🤘
The last Symphony I attended was the Florida Symphony, in Tampa, performing Pictures At An Exhibition originally composted in 1874 by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. It was awesome. 90 people on stage can indeed create a wall of sound.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was the third of the spaghetti western movies, all starring Clint Eastwood. These movies were a truly international project. They had an Italian director and composer, an American starring actor, were financed by Germans, and were filmed in Spain. I highly recommend all three movies to you. Ennio Morricone had such a low budget for this movie, he had to round up the musicians he could afford, see what instruments they played, and compose the soundtrack around those instruments, and he still managed to compose one of the greatest soundtracks ever for the movie.
Love this. This orchestra plays theme songs from movies and video games. The hanging man is a prop from the movie they added because hanging happens in the first part of the movie. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra has performed the theme songs from The Godfather, Jaws, Star Trek, Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a time in America plus more. They also have played the music from Halo, and World of War Craft. Have NEVER been disappointed in any of them and there are more that I haven't heard yet. I love to go on their RUclips channel to see what else they have. Thanks Travis and Suzi I LOVE your reactions.
Many people would say The Good, the Bad & the Ugly is the best Western ever made. I think it probably is, and it wouldn't be the same without this music. The composer is known for hundreds of film soundtracks, many from well known movies, but this one may be his best.
A true classic movie. As for the orchestra, they often do music from movies and games. The night this was recorded, was western and mafia night. Clint Eastwood's silhouette is in the top background, and the waa waa woman had revolver earrings. Other musicians had cowboy hats on, although they don't show it, in this clip. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra always has a theme, and some of the musicians dress up for the location. Unheard of, in this industry, but it's one of the reasons they are so popular on RUclips.
The oboe solo during Ecstasy Over Gold is one of the most hauntingly beautiful segments of music I've ever heard. You really owe it to yourself to go back and listen to it again and again. I love many forms of music but nothing can compare to the epicness of a talented symphony orchestra.
This concert has been seen an absurd number of times!!! And it is definitely worth all the views! The original film, a German/Italian paid for Production, recorded in - Spain with an Italian Instructor and Composer, in a huge set, and it was one of the finest "Westerns" ever made, with only three American Actors in it!
Fantasrice version. Morricone composed some of the greatest music ever. If you'd like to see another grand presentation, try Don't Cry For Me Argentina, by Tina Arena , an orchester, and 2000 choir!
A staple of orchestral performances. The film director apparently had all of this music before filming those westerns. He could cut scenes TO this music. He already had the vibe & sound of the piece. How cool is that? To have this breathtakingly gorgeous music for your dirty, sweaty western. NOW it's an EPIC!!
🇨🇦 The Danish National Symphony Orchestra consists of over 100 musicians and over 70 Choir members ! The gentleman in the percussion section clapping the two pieces of wood together, was recreating the sound of the Whip used to drive the wagons ! 🇨🇦
You might remember the opera voice from the intro for Metallica, Enter Sandman - Russia 1991. They used this, It's from the movie The Good the Bad and the Ugly (Clint Eastwood)
There are two stories to the guy hanging from the ceiling.. Choose one! 1: The guy is the former conductor of the orchestra, that couldn't handle the job. And being from viking decent, This is how we deal with people failing in their job. 2: It's a reference to the movie the music is from.
If you've never seen it, you really should watch the film "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly". It's an iconic film. And has some really funny bits woven through a classic western/gun slinger story. And those times you've heard that flute playing during gun fights on other films, those were paying homage to THIS music and THIS film.
I saw the movie in the theater when it was new as a little boy. This theme song has been with me since then. This orchestra imitates it perfectly but it's my understanding that budget constraints in 1966 didn't have a orchestra but a much smaller music group.
Thanks to reacting to my submission! I'm gad that you both enjoyed it. The film, despite of a low budget genre, actually features and all-star cast (at the time) of Clint Eastwood - the Good, Lee Van Cleef - the Bad and Eli Wallach - the Ugly. It also has a number of Italian actors playing Mexican and Indian-American characters. Ennino Morricone has a prolific history of scoring films. If you've ever seen the Mob film dramatizing Eliott Ness taking on Al Capone "The Untouchables", that's Morricone's music.
There was a trilogy of western films .."The Good The Bad and The Ugly " , "A Fistful of Dollars" , " For a Few Dollars More " , all by the same director , mad fun , definitely worth watching , The hanging man will make sense if you watch The Good , The Bad , and The Ugly ... Italy was a hotbed of crazy films in the 60s as it was a cheaper alternative to Hollywood .
I was lucky enough to be at a symphonic concert with morricone conducting his music a few years ago. Banging to have the music live. Next to these masterpieces also the score from the hateful 8. Just banging. Btw. The last song, called ecstasy from gold is the intro to each and every metallica concert. Greetz from germany.
Recon you need to watch The Good, The Bad & The Ugly? A truly epic film which will set you on a path to being a fan of the man with no name. Hey Blondie 😊
It would probably help to check the actual segment of the movie (The Good, the Bad & the Ugly) that this music is taken from, so you hear the original in context, both to appreciate the original, and to see just how well the Danish National Symphony did it.
Great reaction. You really must now review the film 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". The 2nd part of the music (Ecstasy Of Gold) is from the graveyard scene in the movie and is in my opinion is the finest combination of music and film ever put together!
If you get a chance, watch the movie. Since it first came out in the 60's, it is still my favorite movie of all time. After watching the movie, the hanging man will make sense.
The lady who sang "wah wah", her name is tuva semmingson, a classically trained singer in her own right, she sings everything from opera to standards to pop. A diva of the 1st class. If you look closely, for this concert she was wearing little six shooter earrings. PERFECT!!! Yes, there is also a hanging dummy ... if you watch the movie, you'll get the connection. I watched an interview with the two vocalists.Tuva Semmingsen AKA the Wa Wa Lady, as she has been called by the tube, actually likes being called the Wa Wa Lady. She couldn't believe how this performance took off on the tube. Christine Nonbo Andersen is the solo vocalist in the audience. This was her first performance with the Danish National Orchestra. Both ladies nailed their performances and added a stunning element to this Ennio Morricone masterpiece. Ennio Morricone was a composer of film soundtracks, where he used instruments and objects that are not normally used in an orchestral ensemble. Electric guitars, basses, ocarinas, bongos ... but also whips, gunshots, gusts of wind. Entering Morricone's work is a complete immersion. A moving tribute for fidelity down to the smallest details is what the Spaghetti Werstern Orchestra did to him. This is the theme song of the movie with the same title and of course, made Clint Eastwood ... Clint Eastwood.
The bloke hanging was on the cymbals but dropped one of them, bit of a harsh punishment! 🤣One of the most iconic film scores in history beautifully done here.
To me there are four great film composers that stand out above all the rest: John Williams John Barry Bernard Hermann and Ennio Morricone. The amount of range and versatility that Morricone had in his film scores.. just unbelievable! I would say that only John Williams’ Star Wars scores could rival Ennio Morricone for gut-wrenching passion, heart and awesome bombast! Loved your reaction (as always)! Please react to more Blood Ceremony, which is the world’s most awesome band.
Another Morricone composition that is classic is the Theme from "Once Upon A Time in the West". He did the soundtrack for all of Clint Eastwoods westerns. "The Good the Bad and the Ugly", "Hang Em High", and several others.
produced by different european production association , but mostly Italian , written by Age & Scarpelli ,Luciano Vincenzoni e Sergio Leone, Directed by Leone. The funny things is that on the set all actors where reciting their lines in their own language, so there was a mixture of italian , english, spanish , and after was everything dubbed.
I've had the movie on TV probably a dozen times. My wife always gets on my back when I have it on again until I tell her I'm not watching the movie, I'm listening to the soundtrack.
I can always tell who has not seen the movie...most reactions. The "Hanging Man" is a reference to a character in the movie. That's why everyone is shocked at the sight.
Now you HAVE to watch the Dollars Trilogy, A Fist Full of Dollars (Clint's first leading role), A Few Dollars More and of course the famous The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. When you watch GBU don't be thrown off by the non alignment of the words and lips, all the lines were spoken in Italian and had English dubbing, except for the 3 main stars Clint, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach (they couldn't speak Italian!)
I clicked on the video because due to the title I thought it would be about strings breaking, cellist falling over, conductors freaking out. I was pleasantly surprised!
The Ecstasy of Gold is so unique. It is my ringtone on my phone. Rest in peace Ennio Morricone. React to The Good The Bad and The Ugly. It is a top tier Western!
The films were made in Italy. That's how the 3 films got their name Spaghetti Westerns. The music in all 3 films are masterpieces as are the 3 movies themselves. It's so great to see you two appreciate really good orchestral film music!
I stand corrected, they were filmed in Spain, not Italy in spite of being called spaghetti westerns. Along with the Magnificent Seven, the 3 film trilogy were the greatest westerns EVER made.
Kia ora from New Zealand. If you were taken by this, try "For a few Dollars More", which the Danish National Symphony Orchestra have also recorded with Sarah Hicks in the same concert (same conductor as this).
Maybe the person hanging from the ceiling is the former conductor who never got it right... Actually it is a throwback to one of the GBU western scenes where there was a hanging man. Humour in this orchestra.
Once you watch the movie, then when you watch the second song starting at the Oboe player, you will always see the scene where Tuco us running in circles as the song is playing.
If you had seen the movie you would know about the hanged man. This orchestra is amazing. This music makes me tear-up every time I hear it. Maybe because I saw it when I was seventeen in 1966 and loved the audacity of the movie. Everything Ennio Morricone makes is crazy good. Thanks for bring it up. I hope to go to Denmark and here the orchestra in person. By the way, if you ever get a chance to hear and/or see *_Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds,_* do so. It blew me away.
Have you never seen "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"?
This is our national band and we are so proud of them. Hi from Denmark
HELLO DENMARK!! Curious if the movie itself is popular their?? Awesome Symphony! ☮️

Their cover for the movie Gravity is beautiful too.

To appreciate the "hanged man" you have to see the movie. This is the best performance of this iconic score that I have ever heard.
just like there is a man with the poncho in the back
I agree.
Blondie!!!!!!!!!!!

When reviewing a song you do not stop it every 15 seconds. If you watch the movie you will understand the things.
"OMG - IT'S A PROP!!" Denmark has every right to be proud of their National Symphony Orchestra and this performance - brilliant.
One of the best symphony orchestras in the world!
well i would not go as far, but progressive in that they want more people to see the joy of classical
Now you have to watch the films ;The Good, The Bad & The Ugly' plus ;A Fistful of Dollars' & ;A Few Dollars More'. Great vid guys!
"Once upon a Time in the West" and "My Name is Nobody" are a couple more great spaghetti western of the time.

I bought the DVD „The Morricone Duel“, it’s the Full Version of many Morricone compositions, where this Song was cut off.

I can always tell who has not seen the movie...most reactions. The "Hanging Man" is a reference to a character in the movie. That's why everyone is shocked at the sight.
Morricone's music is amazing...Spagettis westerns are amazing...You guys react to my favourite music..don't regret subscribing at all
Now you HAVE to watch the Dollars Trilogy, A Fist Full of Dollars (Clint's first leading role), A Few Dollars More and of course the famous The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Had you noticed the Wa-wa-wa girl ear rings? Two colt pistols LOL
Amazing reaction!!!👍
It’s a trilogy of films, this being the 3rd. Great film
The greatest western ever!
Maybe the person hanging from the ceiling is the former conductor who never got it right... Actually it is a throwback to one of the GBU western scenes where there was a hanging man. Humour in this orchestra.
That instrument is a slap-stick.
It was used a lot in stage comedy plays, lending it's name to the entire genre of slap-stick comedy today.
As a Dane, im so proud of our DNSO they have done so many movie scores AND video game scores aswell , they are INSANELY talented
Once you watch the movie, then when you watch the second song starting at the Oboe player, you will always see the scene where Tuco us running in circles as the song is playing.
The music is brilliant which fits one of the greatest westerns ever filmed. You need to watch it.
Did you guys check Tuva´s earrings????? guns
Such a good movie to watch
Hey guys. Love the reaction. You simply have to see the final showdown scene from the film. Every hair on your body will stand on end.
Some of the most iconic pieces of music ever put to film.
