I’m 34 so I’m not that old but I’m just now noticing I saw Star Wars in a completely different perspective then younger generations, they got to see Vader before he was Vader. So hearing all of them call him Anakin is funny to me lol
The Vader scene was added late in production, late enough that an actor had to be cast. The "Launch!!!" guy is the ILM director of visual FX who's name I don't remember.
I love the attention to detail when Vader slams the guy to the ceiling and then clenches his fist collapsing that guys throat and cutting off his scream abruptly.
I just noticed watching this that when Vader stabs dude through the door the forces the door open the saber cuts through the rest of the door horizontally. Such a cool detail.
He is literally using force sight, heal, and telekinesis all at once. Blocking bolts with his saber (sight), choking and holding them in the air and redirecting bolts with his hands ... holding the doors closed (all telekinesis) . That's why after the door jams, you hear the creacking of the hull... while holding his breath, which is why you don't hear his breathing at first (heal). It was literally done to be terrifying to the rebel alliance. Purposely to scare the shit out of them. Unreal to thinking he was only about 80% of his full potential.
I’ll never forget how quickly the atmosphere in the theatre changed from utter terror as the screen pans down the hallway and then you hear Vader start breathing before he activates his lightsaber, the blood red light illuminating his form. The fear I and the rest of the audience shared was then replaced by mixed reactions when Vader started cutting mercilessly cutting through the rebels: some gasped in disbelief and shock, some screamed from terror, some were paralyzed with fear, and everyone else, me included, were screaming in joy and excitement. I remember going to see this movie with my father when it came out in theaters, he and I wrapped an arm around the other’s shoulder and yelled and screamed with excitement when Vader appeared in the hallway.
Still remember seeing this scene in theaters when you hear that breathing and see the lightsaber turn on it was a oh sh** moment where these guys are dead already it's a great scene with the music being haunting and the fact darth just mows through them like they are nothing but ants in his way one of my favorite scenes in that movie.
Love this video so much, the part that gave me chills every time, was when you heard Vader breathing and moments later he ignites his red light-saber, just that moment of primal fear before he starts ripping through the rebels, like they were made of paper, RIP James Earl Jones, thank you for bringing to life the scariest MF'er to have ever walked in the Star Wars universe. [activates light saber] "Who wants daddy's belt...?" Y'all keep calling him Anakin... that's not Anakin, he's dead and doesn't come back until RotJ... until then he's Darth Vader.
It’s like something out of a Sam Raimi film. This is straight up Evil Dead horror. Vader is honestly terrifying. Imagine being in that hallway watching this thing coming.
There were always horrible things attributed to Darth Vader and he was always touted as being terrifying, but this is the first time you truly saw it on screen.
I was born in 82, but we recorded the starwars movies when they aired at Xmas. one of my earliest movie memories was being completely terrified of vader, i saw rogue one when it showed at cinemas and that fear came flooding back. You see the fear in the rebel crew members faces, they've been hearing myths about this boogie man since the empire took power. Was he real does he exist all of a sudden they're stuck in a corridor with him, and there's no escape he's going to kill them and there's no stopping him. If a movie recaptures childhood fear factor of a vilian, thats a home run right there.
This scene alone is better than each and every one of the sequel movies combined. Not to mention, it's a million times better than that other 'A Star Wars story' movie, which we don't talk about.
Is it wrong that I laughed maniacally at this scene in theaters, only to tear up at seeing Leia as it was 2 days after Carrie passed away when I saw it.
The difference between Anakin and Vader is evident, Anakin would have gotten those plans! Vader reveled in his power and the fear it brought, he also wasn't physically capable of the same kinds of things Anakin was famous for.
I love how effectively Vader was used in this film. The fear and panic in the soldier's eyes as they understand why he's there and what they need to do.
Almost all these people (newbies) referring to Darth Vader, at this timeline, as Anakin is unfathomable. (Vader’s Vice): “Anakin is dead”. Meanwhile, mostly older Millennials and older generations know when to distinguish the two. - The Disneyland Neighbor
He attacks with such veracity and anger. How he nonchalantly blocks all the lazer blasts at first, then you can really see Vaders anger ramp up as he start to cut through them as if they have the nerve to attack him. He really goes after the last few guys with all he has because he knows the plans are escaping. But as he stands there watching the ship you can see his confidence as he stares at the craft knowing that it wouldn't be but a short time until he catches up with Princess Organa and the plans to the Death Star.
I love seeing everyone reactions to Darth Vader showing up, and then the first few guys just unloading their blasters on Vader even though they know it won’t do anything, the dedication to the rebellion

It was literally done to be terrifying to the rebel alliance. Purposely to scare the shit out of them. Unreal to thinking he was only about 80% of his full potential.
Vader.: "I'd like to ask you a couple of questions. One, where are the plans? Two, give me the plans."
Long Live JEJ and Long Live Lord Vader.
Rebels: “Give up! You’re surrounded!”
Lord Vader: “All I’m surrounded by, is fear and dead men!”
Dude walked through them. Literally mowed through them like they didn't even exist or matter, just another feeble obstacle between him and what he wanted.
RIP James Earl Jones, you are now
one with the force. Vader was badass!
'He's more machine now than human,
twisted and evil.' Ben Kenobi.
I would have paid my ticket just for this scene in theaters, the movie was great but this scene was worth the price of admission alone.
Not to mention this scene was the cherry on top of the best (and pretty much only) live action space battle scene since Episode 3's opening.
The escaping ship was the first spaceship ever seen in a star wars movie
This is my favorite moment in all of Star Wars. I don't care if its over-the-top. As CinemaWins puts it, this is the Vadar that we all want! Vadar is the "badass bad guy, coolest villain that ever was!"
This was the level of story I wanted going forward for Star Wars same we never got it.
Everytime I see Vader light up his light saber I think back to How It Should’ve Ended when they had him say, “Whatup noobs?”.😂
Vader is the most bad ass vilan but as same the most beloved character in SW universe
I like how everyone refers to Vader by his government name now and like they're all disappointed mothers. lmao
It's truly such a blessing in disguise that Anakin's mother died before she could see what her darling son would ultimately become...
@@jacob4920 tbh who knows if anakin turns if his mother didn't die in the first place. that was the first real experience with premature loss that predisposes him to paranoia over padme dying, which ultimately is the reason he goes to such drastic measures to "ensure" her survival.
Something I just realized, there's no wind in space yet Vader's cape is flapping dramatically.
That means Vader is using the Force to **move his cape** while he poses like that.
Even as Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker will always be that one dramatic motherfucker.
This scene right here is the best thing Disney ever did with the star wars ip😅
It’s crazy that people today saw the prequels *first* so they see Anakin become a monster
[activates light saber] "Who wants daddy's belt...?"
Y'all keep calling him Anakin... that's not Anakin, he's dead and doesn't come back until RotJ... until then he's Darth Vader.
People: You gotta have a cool hallway fight these days or you're mid...
Darth Vader: Challenge accepted....
Darth Vader is the hero of the Star Wars universe!
Every time he ignites that red saber i get chills.
+++
This is how I imagine Vorhees would treat a hallway full of camp counselors.
RIP to James Earl Jones the voice of Vader.
Great compilation! That is one of the great sequences not just in Star Wars, but in all cinema. Fact.
If you see a health bar over Vader's head its actually just his patience bar. No one has ever made it past that bar & lived.
Is it wrong that I laughed maniacally at this scene in theaters, only to tear up at seeing Leia as it was 2 days after Carrie passed away when I saw it.
when i watch this at the cinema, and we heard THAT breathing, there was a cheer
Rest In Peace, James Earl Jones. You will never be forgotten.
The difference between Anakin and Vader is evident, Anakin would have gotten those plans!
Vader reveled in his power and the fear it brought, he also wasn't physically capable of the same kinds of things Anakin was famous for.
So, he wasn't Anikin Skywalker at this point He had been Darth Vader for the last 19 years at this point.
I love how effectively Vader was used in this film. The fear and panic in the soldier's eyes as they understand why he's there and what they need to do.
RIP James.Earl Jones, ultimate Vader
The final scene as the Tantive IV flies away: "We're not done. I'll be back for YOU later."
When the rebel with the disc says it's jammed, I just shake my head and say to myself "It's not jammed!".
I love seeing everyone reactions to Darth Vader showing up, and then the first few guys just unloading their blasters on Vader even though they know it won’t do anything, the dedication to the rebellion
Man when I was at the theater and first saw this, the entire room literally gasped at once
I love the almost identical kill corridor scene Luke does in the Mandalorian.
You can tell who was a childhood star wars fan and who wasn’t by their reaction to his first breath
