  • I've talked a lot about stem cells and stem cell exhaustion. So today, I thought I'd do an update and talk about the latest in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies.
    But first, we'll do a quick recap and talk about what stem cells are, what exosomes are, and their role in regenerative medicine. I'll cover how stem cell exhaustion occurs. And finally, we'll take a look at a couple of clinics doing regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies in the battle to defeat that aging process.

    I understand that some people may be desperate, but I am unconvinced on these particular treatments. As you said, there are many other things that can be done upstream.
    You said that stem cells replace dead cells, and while this is true, most other cells that have not reached their Hayflick division limit (their telomeres are still long enough to divide) also divide...and perhaps we would prefer those to divide rather than wasting the resource that stem cells represent. Stem cells are your third string bench warmers...and a lot can go wrong with third stringers too. I think it makes more sense to have your telomere lengths measured, as this should give you some idea of whether this extreme and expensive measure of stem cell therapy makes any sense. If they are long, I see no reason to take that risky and expensive step. If you are 60 and have the telomeres of an 80-year-old, maybe it is worth the risks.
    There are also appear to be ways to lengthen telomeres. Legumes, red peppers, dark chocolate, nuts, seaweed, spinach, fruits, berries, and 100% fruit juice, mushrooms, oats, dairy products, and coffee appear to lengthen telomeres. Smoking can be devastating to telomeres. Alcohol, red meat, or processed meat shorten telomeres. Do these things really lengthen or shorten telomeres, or do they just lengthen the lives of cells? Hard to say. There are things that truly can extend telomeres. TA-65 has been proven to. Some other supplements, make similar claims with much less proof.
    I am probably going to build a hyperbaric chamber, because studies say they can extend telomeres. Though, I too likely need a test first to see if I need to extend my telomeres, and to have a baseline to compare the "after" to.
    I would like to know if they extend telomeres in other cell types rather than just white blood cells. But I haven't seen anything that tested this, yet.
    Telomeres, of course, are not everything when it comes to aging, but I don't think they should be ignored either.
    I would be more interested to see if stem cells can do anything for scars. Seems like a little cell proliferation in concave skin scars might reduce those scars.

    I can answer some of the question I read in the comments. I have been to Panama and I got 120ml Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) IV. I found out about it from the Joe Rogan podcast. I have auto Immune issues. I scheduled my treatment and crazy as it sounds my wife ran into Mel Gibson in a restaurant the week before my flight to Panama. He was filming a movie the town over from ours. She asked about the treatment and he was very helpful. He has personally done the treatment 4 times. All I can say is if you can afford it do it. All my auto immune issues are gone. As I type this I'm a year out from my treatment. The cost was $23,500 I'm going back after the first of the year and it will be 18k this time. The clinic is awesome very professional and safe. I actually had the same Dr. as Mel. They take care of everything Transportation and the hotel. I'm 55 and I feel like I'm 35. I hope this helps someone.

    Lance, thanks again, for yet another great contribution!
    Totally agree on the "calculated risk" part, as long as your harvested cells are not planted back there is no risk of growing an extra leg or two😄 however when aging takes too much a toll, that risk could make a difference and extend your life with a couple of quality years.
    I'm in my 50's so i'll stick to the NMN and Resveratrol for now but am very curious about rejuvenating stemcells and stemceltherapies.
    Would you also consider Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to increase telomere lenght and decrease immunosenescence in isolated blood cells?

    Lance:
    Exceptional video!
    Big question: why are clinics still using these old techniques of harvesting stem cells from bone marrow, when they can easily just create induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSCs) by introducing 3 of the 4 Yamanaka factors?
    It's so much simpler to take skin cells and convert them into stem cells with the Yamanaka process.
    I hope you'll explore that in a new video. Thanks in advance!

    You mention a clinic by a naturopath named Harry Adelson...a non medical doctor who not only has been injecting spines of patients but also is doing procedures not authorized by the Utah Naturopathic Act. It is my very strong opinion as an actual orthopedic surgeon and regenerative medicine doctor in this field for 15+ years that Harry Adelson is in violation of the Naturopathic Act by injecting and doing procedures significantly more involved than the "minor office procedures" allowed by the statute. Harry Adelson has sued at least one other nationally respected medical specialist in this field for also voicing the opinion that Adelson is way out of bounds as a naturopath in doing these medical/surgical procedures...the lawsuit was thrown out. There are so many reputable and highly trained places to go! I appreciate your helping to protect the public from scams like amniotic stem cells, umbilical cord stem cells, and Wharton's Jelly stem cells. In addition, the public should know about all of the FDA legal actions shutting down companies like Kimera Exosomes because exosomes are not approved to be used in human AND have no human studies published in the orthopedic arena....and for sure nothing versus something far far cheaper like PRP. You have a great pulpit and hopefully people will take what you say and do their own research as well!

    • @donbufordmd
      @donbufordmd 2 года назад

      @@beezybe7166 To truly do your own best research here is what i would recommend regardless of where you are going. #1 get the names of the doctors who would actually be evaluating you and injecting your body. Make sure they are in fact doctors...google their names and see who they are and what their specialties are...see an orthopedic doctor for an orthopedic problem! Check them on linkedin. Check them on google scholar to see if they have published any research in the field. #2 Find out what sources they use for the treatment they are planning. Every study published in the USA has shown that any claims of frozen "stem cells" that are supposed to be in the amniotic fluid and wharton' jelly, and umbilical cord blood are in fact false. NONE have actual stem cells. So don't go any place trying to sell you stem cells that are not from your own body. In fact avoid them at all costs in the USA. Most international clinics use these products too....zero stem cells if not from your own body. Max profit for the clinic! #3 Be extremely wary of anyone telling you that culturing your own stem cells is worth tens of thousands of dollars more than the same day procedures we do every day here in the USA. There are essentially NO studies showing that culturing stem cells for an orthopedic injection is any better than the same day procedures we do. In fact, for many orthopedic conditions, platelet rich plasma from your own blood is more than enough and has the science to back it up!

    • @donbufordmd
      @donbufordmd 2 года назад

      @@beezybe7166 PRP costs in the US should range from $300- $900 per injection but all PRP is not the same which is why it is important to ask the doctor if they measure the PRP on the day they inject you....it is the only way to be sure of what you are actually getting and simply requires a hematology machine in the office. Bone marrow concentrate (stem cell) injections in the USA range from $2000- $6000 per injection and there is less evidence on when and where this makes sense compared to the more robust evidence we have for PRP use. Suffice to say that arthritic joints and degenerative tendons are two conditions for which BMC may be worth the extra cost and invasiveness. There are so many honest, thoughtful, evidence based clinicians in the USA that I can't really think of a great reason to leave the country unless it is for vacation or a condition where there is absolute proof that culturing stem cells makes a huge difference.

Here in Thailand, stem cell clinics are legal and affordable compared to anywhere else, yet their businesses are struggling. I discussed with a doctor/professor of medicine, and he informed me it was medically unproven science. I had already spent $1000 on some stem cell treatment for aging that was applied to the face, and honestly saw zero results. Remember, there’s many clinics that make extraordinary claims but have NO actual proof or scientific data to support them, which tells me they’re only looking to make a whole lot of money off people who want to look eternally young.

      There are places in medicine where we have the data that stem cell therapy is useful. Within orthopedics there is a lot of data that bone marrow derived stem cells call help people with their joint pain and with tendon and ligament injuries and with back pain. There are way way more scams though and you are so right to question every claim and ask for clinical evidence that what is being proposed hs some actual basis in clinical medicine. These cash pay procedures attract the worst types of people both medical and nonmedical who simply want to separate people in need from their hard earned money.

    Here is the over-arching problem. You have over a trillion cells in your body. Trying to replace cells at a few hundred at a time seems daunting. Also stem cells have all the genetic information from your youth. You could reverse stem cells back to a more youthful state without donors (Pluripotent stem cells). Maybe it's too expensive. Anyway, the vast number of cells that would need to be changed makes this procedure seem dubious. I would want to see studies where you look at treated sites and see what the actual impact / benefit happened. Asking people how they feel is more of a placebo effect rather than a scientific effect.

    Stem cells don't do that they are more hype than any results.

      A large number of republicans want to end SS and Medicare. Scott, Rubio, Johnson and Romney are leading the charge.
