I’m doing a similar thing in that I’ve always been short off the tee and now I’m 54; officially a senior, I’m now even slower. I’ve been using the swing speed sticks and also trying to get a better understanding of the mechanics too and basically practicing regularly , as a result I’m seeing great improvements already within the last month. My driver club head speed was 82mph…shockingly slow…today it was 96mph which is amazing for me…so I can totally relate to how you feel. Finding different areas of the golf course is great fun as I get longer. The sponge things look interesting…I’m very tempted to add them to my training regime
That's great progress Brian - well done!! I'm such a fan of the SuperSpeed Sticks, honestly just wish I'd found them sooner. The Force Pedals are a very interesting addition. Now I've been using the sticks a while, I think the pedals are a useful extra tool to help grasp the feel to use on the course. I doubt you'll see SpeedSticks style gains but I think they play a role in getting a little more speed for sure. That's my experience with them anyway... Thanks for joining the conversation and keep up the good work!

I am doing speed training as well and this video gave me added motivation to keep going. Coincidentally you also play at my local courses. Subscribed and looking forward to more videos.
That's great to hear and welcome! Keep going with you speed training, I'm a huge believer in what that can do now I've been doing it myself. I'll look out for you on the local courses :-)
I started out around with 92 mph, after 6 weeks I am at around 98 mph. I also do some strength training but not as much as yours. I hope to gain another 3 to 5 mph club head speed.
@@JonPerkinsGolf low reps, heavy weight. It targets fast twitc muscle fibers. And if you really want to be bold, learn how to do power cleans as well. There isn't a better explosive lift in all of weight lifting than cleans (or clean and jerks). One last thing I'd throw in. If you have a radar gunning your speed stick speed, then play around with different techniques to see what helps generate the most speed. For me, I found that shifting my pressure back to my lead side starting at around P3 ish was worth like 10 mph in swing speed. I also had to be sure I hinged my wrists enough in BS.
@@JonPerkinsGolf you target the same fast twitch muscle fibers with low weight and high repetitions by making sure you don't leave any repetition (RIR=1 or 0) and it's safer for the spine. Hexagonal deadlifts are also safer but yes I do think weighlifting is the absolute key for that 10-15 extra mph.
if you bring your rt elbow into your rt ribs sooner on the downswing your speed will increase too..(it shortens the distance on the downswing) and...if your club path is off plane a bit it will decrease your speed (streamline your path will speed up your swing speed).
That's huge progress, congrats! I noticed you using the swing speed radar swinging the speed sticks. I'm curious what your peak speeds with swinging the green, blue, and red sticks are vs to where your driver is now? Does the red stick speed fairly closely correlate to driver speed?
Thanks and thanks for the comment and interest! I was trying to find the notes I kept for swing speed at the end of the six weeks. From what I have found, my max numbers with say the heaviest (red) stick was around 110mph, so still above my 100 avg - but the odd swing in my test was around 104 with the driver, so most swings at the time with red, probably were fairly close to driver swings. Hope that makes some sense... I've kept going with the speed sticks (love them) and think I'm starting to see another small jump which is also correlating with efforts to include the Force Pedals. Definitely a long way from where I started!
@@JonPerkinsGolf Hi Jon, really appreciate the repsonse! So, it sounds like about a 5% difference from max red stick speed to driver max and about 10% for driver average speed. That sounds reasonable. I was curious because I have gone through several stages of the superspeed program using the same seing speed sensor while training, but haven't been on a luanch monitor with my driver to see actual driver speed, so curious for an estimate. I have definitely noticed the on-course gains though. You definitely need to keep with it! The speed gains will be less rapid now, but you will see continued progress. Here is a chart that I found to be fairly accurate for the cycle I have experienced. You are likely entering your second "jump" in speed now. @@JonPerkinsGolf It is great seeing it on the course. Hitting longer drives leaving shorter approaches and needing less club for any given yardage really makes a difference. I'm on level 4 of the program. It has so many reps haha. Kinda plateaued and normalizing speed. Just looking to maintain through winter, but I expect a drop off as I won't be able to use the sticks much (dont have indoor space). Hopefully see a quick jump in speed again in the spring when I get back at it. Will go back to level 2 or 3 and continue from there.
Very insightful video, I just have a question in regards to Precision Athletica work out. You seem to have done it at home. Is it body weight oriented? If no; what tools did you buy to do the work out program ? Thanks !

@@JonPerkinsGolf thanks for the advice. cool to meet people from Australia. I myself was living in Melbourne in 2012 for 6 months. Hard to find courses nearby but amazing experience overall.
Hey, have you checked out the Super Speed website and their training section? I only say that because they have some great downloads, trackers, video explanations etc. Might be better for you to follow their guides - that what I did.
I got their adult 3 stick set. I've also tried their c-club but I'd definitely start with the 3 stick set. My Dad (over 70) has used the senior version as well.
So the way I understand the swing is 1. Your wrists release the club. 2. Your body releases your wrists. Most people think their body releases the CLUB. Would you say this sounds about right? Your body(big muscles) load and unload your wrists and your wrists(cocking/uncocking)release the club.
Honestly, I try to stay away from getting too technical and leave it for the Pro's to explain. I have ideas and feels that work for me, but not certain if they're textbook... Thanks for commenting.

I can't say for certain if he used SuperSpeed sticks specifically but looking into his transformation, there's a lot out there about the type of training he does and over speed training is a huge part of it. You'll see SuperSpeed sticks in a lot of the tour players bags, but Bryson probably more than anyone seems to put a huge emphasis on over speed work.
Hey Torben, thanks for the message. I followed the SuperSpeed protocol on their website for the speed sticks stuff. It's really easy and only requires 3 ten minute sessions a week!
