    Just got my SS sticks and PRGR bundle via a holiday sale and started last week. I’m 62 yrs old, only 5’9” and 155 lbs, so lets be realistic… I’m never going to see 108 mph. BUT… my driver speed was 83 mph when I started, and my goal over the winter is driver speed of 95 mph (normal swing, not max out). After only a week and a half my driver speed is already up to 89.7 mph! Mind you, I am also doing this in conjunction with high quality lessons working on using my legs and the ground more effectively. But the point is, regardless of your stature and current swing speed, these do help achieve increases. I have always hit my irons fairly long, but have been frustrated by driver distance. Finally doing something about it! 👍👍

      @dirkgibbens377 9 месяцев назад

      @@ericbambridge6769 Yes. Max driver clubhead speed 97.8 mph going all out. 92-93 mph is my more “normal” clubhead speed that I take to the course now. Again, combination of speed training and doing a better job using my lower body and interaction between my feet and the ground.

    Thanks, good inspiration. I am 63 and have dropped from just over 100 mph club head speed to average 96. Am now 1w into Jaacob Bowdens speed program using Speed sticks and Force Pedals and hope after 6w by New Year to have regained a few mph despite the Swedish cold & snow. If so, I will be motivated ro continue inro 2026, which I think is necessary to get long lasting effects. So a combo of your channel and Jaacobs channel&home program is my path forward. Keep up your good work!

    Love this video and reading the comments. I’m mid 50s with a dodgy back, 12 handicap. After much deliberation I bought the sticks and prgr launch monitor. Week 1 and I went from 100mph to 105mph with green stick. So a very encouraging start. Interesting that some of the step changes produced faster speeds!! Probably says something about my swing.

    Thanks for the video, I'm thinking about trying something like this. My ball speed went up about 5mph over the summer (to a max of 155mph) according the Foresite machine they use at Golf Galaxy. I swing a weighted short club about 30-50x 4-5 days/week at home. I added weight to it with lead tape. I also work out 2-3x/week doing squats and throwing the heavy ball, among other things. This is done at work in between classes (i'm a college prof)., so the workouts are brief, but I'm upping my squat max and other maxes. I do 3 sets of throwing the 45lbs ball 8x, which makes me feel like I'm going to hurl (haha). Anyway, so far the biggest jump in distance I've seen over the last year was just from hitting balls a lot, not from the gym. But I'm going to keep at it. I'm interested in some disparity in the numbers you have above and my longest drive on the Foresite. It was 306 total, 274 carry. The ball speed was 155.7 mph, launch angle 16.1, and spin rate of 1760. I believe Foresite exaggerates spin in BOTH directions, so this may be where the discrepancy is. The spin rate may indeed have been greater. Anyway, it was very rare. My average is high 240's carry and 270's total. The biggest change since I've been busting my **s has really been in my iron distance, esp. mid and long. Over the last year my 5 iron distance has gone from 190 to 205+. ps-I'm 5'7" 160. Anyway, thanks again!

    Great video thanks for posting, I am also on this journey and at 57 started at driver swing speed of 97 and now up to 105 at the moment.
    The biggest difference for me is loose grip ( @3 out of 10 ) bottom 3 fingers of the left hand, faster backswing and push into the ground through your left foot to start your downswing. I noticed your golf glove was very warn on the pad section. Try more in the fingers!!

    • @derekedwards1031
      @derekedwards1031 Год назад +1

      No problem thanks. Another couple of key things for me are also high hands on the backswing standing taller on the backswing and a definite weight shift back and through. Try and delay shoulder turn back through as long as you can until you have transferred weight, bent left knee and pushed into the floor with your left foot. Then whip through as fast as you can lol. Bottom 3 fingers on the left hand and mega loose grip is key for me to max wrist cock. All the best👍

    This is really interesting. I am a one-handed (right arm, RH play) golfer and I used to have around 80ish mph swing speed when I was 15-25 ish and then I quit golf. Now short before 40, I picked up golf again and got my swing speed up to about 100 mph, which you can imagine, coming from around 80, completely changes the game you are playing. I got a 20 mph increase just from changing the mechanics of my swing and going from an "arm swing" to a legs/torso swing, as obviously my strength isn't 5x higher at almost 40 than it was at 25. Especially not after 15 years of just hanging at the PC and eating junk food. However, seeing how I am already outdriving basically all my friends (most of whom are more muscular and have 2 arms), now I am invested. I want to get into epic shape and use this overspeed regime to push my speed towards 110 ish. I am pretty sure that should be doable. Videos like this are really interesting and motivating to me. I will definitely give it a try!

    I notice just having something that tells you your swing speed is a tremendous tool. Even if you are just swinging your driver.
    It allows to explore your movements and see if what feels faster is actually faster
    I have take my “max” speed from 105 to 121 in the past two months.
    My actual playing speed is more like 105-107 but compared to 95 where I started I’m very happy … goal is to get to 110 playing speed by the end of the year

    This video's motivated me to start doing the SuperSpeed training. I actually bought the sticks last spring or so but got lazy and stopped after a few workouts. I used TrackMan for the first time yesterday and was disappointed to see that my average speed for a driver is only 92-93 mph (although the numbers were good - 1.49 smash, 6° upward attack angle, 2200-2500 spin). One negative we’ve noticed with golfers is that they get a bit upper body dominant . Their hands get fast thru impact and dispersion goes out the window after using the sticks for a while. However they do gain a good amount of speed which is the main goal anyways. I would suggest matching their speed program alongside an instruction program as well. To make sure you’re developing an overall sound golf swing.

    2 Hcp golfer, play a very similar game to yourself by the sounds of it, Now half way through protocol 2 starting with a driver speed of 93 MPH back in Feb this year. Have to disagree with the 20% figure above your driver speed with the green club here tbh. Using the PRGR, I've only managed 117 tops with the green, 112 with the blue and 106 with the red , then 120 with the C-Club yet still now put my normal driver swing on it now and achieve 102-103 (swinging out of my shoes i've now achieved 108 MPH on the PRGR ). Think it doesn't always correlate that the green stick is 20% higher imho and varies from golfer to golfer fwiw. Love watching your vids btw👍

It varies between 108 to 115 on course depending how I'm feeling, weather, hole and how many layers I have on. ( It's bloody cold in North East England atm) The goal was always to achieve a comfortable 110 but I'm addicted now.
    Green starting -111 Now- 131
    Blue-Starting -108 Now - 120
    Red- Starting-102 Now- 118
    Driver Starting- 106 Now - 117 Maximum
    I read that you need to get that red stick number as high as possible to transfer it to the clubhead. That blue 120 number hasn't moved for a while, but is so consistent at 120 which has really been annoying me :)
    Anyway in my mind speed sticks work, plus I go to the gym, which also helps.

    Really impressive Jon. Well done and Keep it going. It's motivated me to keep going. I'm 48, and started with a driver swing speed of 90mph, carry about 220mph. I'm just finishing level 1 after 6 weeks and have moved from 90mph to 98mph club speed (driver), with a swing caddie 'stick' best of 111mph. However I've plateaus, and have dipped back to 96mph. I'd be curious to see any ups and downs in your progress, there was research to show quick gains are made, then it sticks, then further gains - have you had the same?

    • @JonPerkinsGolf
      @JonPerkinsGolf  3 года назад +4

      Wow, you're doing great. I'm really pleased that I played a part in you taking this on! I definitely see plateaus. With the SuperSpeed stuff, I think you get an early jump and then period of normalisation, before it jumps again if you keep going. They have a graph on their website that I think is pretty accurate to what I've seen myself. The jumps are fun but I've found it best to just stick with it and stay consistent and then when you look back, you see really positive changes.

    Great video series! Thanks for sharing.
    I also did the SuperSpeed series over this past year and noticed great results, albeit I didn’t use a launch monitor so reliant on noticing based on feedback on the course.
    I managed to get through around 12 weeks of the programme and went from hitting the ball ~210y carry to >250y, so pretty similar to yours. I use Arccos so know my total distances and had multiple 300y + drives this year when the weather conditions were favourable (ie longer bounce, downwind etc) - that would have been unheard for me last year. I also combined it with a strength programme, which of course helps (not mobility though so will try and add that in).
    I’ve been off the programme for the past few months for various reasons about going to step it back up this winter here in UK. Thinking of investing in a PRGR so I can better track and had some questions:
    1. Did you use the PRGR at a golf range with range balls? Have you noticed any difference in the readings there? I don’t have access to a garden net so will be reliant on range balls.
    2. Does the PRGR work fine for just measuring club head speed with the Speed Sticks? I read elsewhere that’s not always the case.

    • @JonPerkinsGolf
      @JonPerkinsGolf  3 года назад +1

      Hey Tom, great progress, well done! From what I can tell with the SuperSpeed Sticks, they work well to take some breaks and then go back to them in the "off-season" so I imagine winter is a great time to pick them back up.
      I'm really impressed by the PRGR - it's a very solid little unit and in my experience very good at what it does. Won't give you the bells and whistles of a big launch monitor but I've found it at least as accurate as you'd hope and very good with Speed Sticks. I found that getting swing speed readings when just using the speed sticks, is a huge benefit and helps you to push yourself more.
      For me, if you can possibly justify it, the PRGR is a huge asset to have alongside Speed Sticks.
      The numbers it gives me on the range make sense to what I see and would expect to see. Possibly the odd one is a bit off but not many and in terms of value for money, I think its a hard device to beat.

    Jack Nicklaus says when he really has to go for it, the first two feet
    of his takeaway are even slower than his regular tee shots.
    And another thing Nicklaus and others do but don't go into any detail about, (but I will try to)
    is just before, or during or perhaps it is the trigger for, the transition at the top, and that
    is a slight fall, downward, toward the ball. It is only a few inches, but the body weight
    falling and then suddenly being flung upwards by pushing off the back foot, then the wrenching left of the hips, the planting of the lead foot and the driving upwards of the lead shoulder totally maximises all of the available vectors, especially body weight and gravity. I think that is the order but you're a smart guy you'll work it out.

That said there's a video on my channel where I had my Dad do the program and he found it hurt his game on the course for two weeks whilst he got used it all and then he had great results. Thanks for the reply@@JonPerkinsGolf! Mainly trying to decide where I want to spend my bullets on winter training, and whether I can swing a Stack System in my apartment without obliterating the ceiling. Keep up the great videos!

    Thanks for these videos. I noticed you have changed your net. Just curious since I’ve been thinking about getting one-and I live in a fairly dense suburb. Do you worry about shanks? Did you have to get a nicer net because you upped your speed? My speed was 103 on Trackman and I’ve read some nets can’t handle that?
    Also, with your gains are you getting X-stiff shafts? I thought I’ve read somewhere that 105 is around the cutoff. Thanks!

      Hi Charles, thanks for watching the videos and commenting! Good spot re the net. I had (I think it was called) a Rukket net at first - very good and no real issue but it got a small hole in it and I felt the base of the netting really needed pegs - it's possible to hit ok woods that come off low... I changed to a Net Return (mine from the Net Return Australia, but global brand). It's great! Much easier to setup, has more material around the base, slightly taller and has optional side nets if you're worried about shanks. Honestly it takes a while to get comfortable hitting in the backyard, but you can get pretty close and I have a fence on my right, so not so worried about miss hits anymore.
      In terms on the shafts, I've not changed yet but I am looking to go to a Ping fitter in the next couple of weeks for his advice. I've noticed a more spiny, high and right shot with my driver. No idea if it's related but I think I might need to tweak my driver settings as they were done for a slower swing. Maybe I'll make a video about how that goes?
      Hope this helps, sorry it's a bit long!
      Thanks for following along.

      @@JonPerkinsGolf Thanks for the response. I’m not a fitter, but when I was recently fit for a Ping Max, my club speed went up 1-2mph when I went from their mid-stiff shafts to their stiffest stiff shaft (Ping Tour). Hopefully you’ll find similar results moving to xstiff. (It’s also shorter, so I found it hit straighter.)
