    Little cleaning tip: Q-Tips, especially cheap versions, can leave little cotton strands or minute debris on slide rails, trigger mechanism, etc. I recommend getting (or stealing some of your significant other's) eye make-up applicators. They're as small as q-tips but do not shed at all.

      Even the slightest amount of carbon buildup after firing acouple shots will be 1k times more of a hindrance than a qtip strand inside a well maintained and lubricated firearm. Not knocking your idea whatsoever, especially if you want to put the gun away for any length of time but for years now I've seen people treat qtips like they're the plague when it comes to firearms lol. Getting ready for the weekly range trip qtips are amazing, but storage the example you gave is perfect, especially the ones that are tough enough that can be used and washed clean acouple times.

    Thank you so much for this video for beginners with the Walter PDP. I just received my and I put about 300 rounds in it. Absolutely love this weapon.
    But by me having arthritis, I wanted to also make sure that I didn’t have to take anyone to get it clean and I can do it myself and you made it so easy thank you for sharing this. Normally I make sure I can break a weapon down before I buy it, but it was something about this one that I jumped the gun purchased first , but grace of God I’m able to do it again. This is the only PDP field strip video I've found that doesn't show heavy scratching on the underside of the barrel from where I assume the recoil spring is contacting the barrel somehow. I first noticed it in Hickok45's PDP video and when I brought it up I was pretty surprised ( first that he actually responded to me at all) that he got inexplicably mad at me and totally discounted the very obvious heavy scratching and even metal shavings. Was a very strange way to react to a valid concern about a review of a brand new pistol at the time. Seems like maybe Walther fixed the problem or it was a QC issue but its still holding me back from purchase.
    Nice concise and helpful cleaning video, loved your delivery.

    Great video, but that was enough oil to fry a nonstick egg. Just like seasoning a great frying pan, less is more. Wipe everything away whatever is left is all that you need. Too much oil especially left in the barrel can heat up and polymerize and attract dust and dirt leading to a complete mess. It just gets cruddier. Thanks for the breakdown tutorial.

    Way too much oil. Walther is pretty specific in a few drops in a few key places and not all over (especially not the slide). You do not need to clean the recoil spring assembly with oil. Just go to the Walther website and watch their videos on the right way to clean a PDP. Similar to a Glock, these are DRY pistols with drops of lubrication in key areas of the pistol which Walther details in the manual. I have over 5k rounds and mine and probably have used less oil than in this vid and it works as it should....

    • @travisp11
      @travisp11  2 года назад

    • @Argonaut80

      I’m gonna have to agree. That’s a lot of oil. I also just put 100 rounds through a brand new 4.5in, and probably won’t clean it until after 1000, or if it begins to malfunction. If I were going to store it long term, I may have used that much oil, but would wipe as much oil off as possible before using it. Excess oil attracts dirt, that causes excessive wear.

    Have you noticed any wobble from the gun and the slide itself. I noticed if you hold the gun shake it it wobbles too much this was one big reason I didn’t buy it.

      That wobble is actually designed purposely in the design. Walther wrote up a great peice on the gun about it and how it actually greatly improves the life of the firearm.

      @@gtiguy1992able that's actually a good comparison as far as showing the purpose of the entire idea. I'm sure Walther wouldn't lie about such a thing and extensively tested their theory and then design of the pistol.... What I do find odd though is that they don't really advertise the system whatsoever.... Or even mention for that matter.... It took tons of online concern and misinformation for them to even address the concerns.

    Question: I just cleaned my walther pdp for the first time and forgot lube. I cleaned it exactly how the video showed with single purpose firearm cleaner but skipped the parts that called to lube. Is it okay for now until next cleaning? Or should I take it apart and live it up before I go shooting? Any advice is appreciated

      @@travisp11 just to clarify I did clean it with firearm cleaner I just didn’t have any oil/lube. Should I get some and add it before I go shooting again or can it wait until after and do one session at the range without any oil/lube?

    • @travisp11
      @travisp11  11 месяцев назад

      @@Steven_Bo1 the gun will function but you don’t have any additional protection against the elements aside from the coating on the parts. At a minimum, wipe off the exterior of the gun with a light coat of oil, lube or CLP.

  • @TerminalM193
    @TerminalM193 2 года назад +1

    I picked up both CLP and ballistol. I'm about to sit down and clean my first pistol for the first time. Can the CLP or the ballistol also be used to clean all the polymer on the outside of the gun and then run a dry patch over to get rid of any access? Also, can both ballistol and CLP be used for both cleaning AND lubing or should I use them for cleaning, dry up the cleaning solution and then apply actual lubricant?

    • @travisp11
      @travisp11  2 года назад

      Yes on that first question. You can use both CLP and Ballistol to clean, lube and protect. I think CLP is a bit thicker when applied but Ballistol is solid.

      Use one coat to clean, then apply a light coat to lube and protect. Wipe up the excess.

      I blast the entire pistol with CLP, however clean the barrel by marinading it like you do for a few minutes. I’ve been utilizing this method after seeing it on Brownell’s RUclips channel and I’ve been using it for years it’s so easy and fast
