Here's a little secret that'll save you fish traps, if you simply have the fish in the basket on your hotbar, simply walking into the water will reset the spoil timer
12:08 actually the roar does do something. It'll make smaller and lower level creatures stop to poop, so they'll stand still for a few seconds while they go through the poop animation. I think it's kinda hilarious to make random creatures take a shit by roaring
@@beachbuggyballer as a newish player. I gotta admit I feel my vaults were wasted and collected resources were pointless now that I have discovered the lovely bulldog/panda/sloth cross that is the gatcha farm. Also luckily built a house in Asgard that about thirty gachas just keep spawning around. I just hang around and collect. They're right at my door and just dropping them by the ton.
I like new tames and all, I just feel like the old ones could get new abilities or reworks. New tames get like every ability the devs can think of. Maybe instead of thinking, Hmmm we dont have something that can do this, this, this, this, oh and this. I guess we'll just make one creature and put them all on that one. Maybe give some of those abilities to older tames that have little to no use in the game anymore. Maewing : " I can do everything! Fast glider, parachute, run around on the ground, attack, raise your babies, steal babies, reduce weight of some items, swim underwater without oxygen, and I can lay random eggs, even special eggs." Argentavis : " I can reduce weight of some items and I'm a mobile smithy, but I cant glide, I'm slow in the air unless you have flyer speed leveling on your server, I cant back up and I'm slow on the ground, and if you hit water with me I'm kicking you off." The Andrewsarchus has all those abilities and you can build a dang Gatling gun on it?! They nerfed the Bronto into uselessness, why not give it the ability to build an artillery saddle that could do shell bombardments from several kilometers away?
I do admit official/unofficial. The bats ability to latch upside down and let me tranq from safety is handy. The anywhere directional flight. But I also purposely don't use traps unless I have too. I like the thrill of the hunt even if I lose em.
I agree, I hate traps personally, even on Gigas or Carchas, I'll run and die before I waste a bunch of materials on behemoth metal or stone gates I can't pick up after 30 seconds (console player, no mods) sometimes its more of a struggle than the actual tranqing and running.
@@bighater274 hah I think my problem is similar. I just can't be bothered building a trap unless he's been tranqed already. Feels wrong and takes more time with kiting them in. Totally understand why others do it. Just seems tedious and making it too easy. Omg that Char is so scary though.
The Carcha's "movement speed and stun immunity buff" is from killing creatures, not the roar. Each kill grants you 10 seconds. Notice how in the video when your Carcha roared the buff timer was not increased? The roar does nothing for the Carcha itself, except remove your stacks. The roar functions nothing like you explained it. Off the Wiki, the roar does this "The Carcha roars, converting any stacks of the Bloodrage buff into the Incited buff for nearby allies, but not the Carcha itself." Edit: Shadowmane taming is based off fish size, not fish type. Level/type are all irrelevant, only the size is relevant. The size is the very last number that you see when you mouseover or trap a fish, it'll usually be something along the lines of 0.5 to anywhere around 2.5. Any fish above 1.5 (and I do mean 1.5, ARK likes to round off numbers) will give you the max taming effectiveness per basket. Edit2: Shadowmane roar does not increase the creatures (or it's friends) damage, it increases movement speed and torpidity recovery per second. "Roar Boosted allies recover 50 Stamina and Torpidity per second, and have their speed increased by 50%." It does however increase the damage of a creature attacking your Shadowmane, by increasing the dmg they take from Thornmail Poison. Edit3: Thornmail debuff on enemy doesn't make them take more damage from your Shadowmane, it gives them a roughly 10 damage per second dot (up to 5 stacks) and makes them deal less damage to your Shadowmane per stack, to a maximum of 50% damage reduction.
I agree with the rexes being up on the list. As a newbie in my single player I managed to trap a 145 and tranq it! Even without a saddle she helped me survive and protect my other tames
Desmodus creates the sanguine elixir, points out creatures even in hiding,, latches anywhere. does good damage, creates infinite spoiled meat and blood packs, and you can shoot off it's back. You might be wrong.
Man Fjordur has a bit of everything, huh? I'm kind of surprised bloodstalkers and trop crystal wyverns didn't make the list, even as honorable mentions.
@Ethan Shaw a few reasons. First, teopicals are easier to find and in a spawn zone for their own taming food. They're also more abundant than the other two. These are important for starter tame purposes. Second, they are unquestionably the fastest with their water buff. Third, their breath is (or was?) the only one that could target buried purlovias.
I agree with all of these! One of my own personal favorites is the gigs. Just everything about it seems awesome! High torpor, great melee, and goes into an epic rage when angered enough. Awesome!
The shadowmane is so busted. It's the definition of "oh and it can also..." It's the first creature I bred a full line of and I do not regret that in the slightest. Only downside is they are very inconsistent under water. They are great swimmers and stuff but if you've got some following you or you yourself dismounted, very often they will just not attack anything, even if you put them on aggressive. I've lost insanely high stat shadowmanes just because they didn't listen as I got absolutely swarmed in the gen 2 underground ocean. On my single player game, that ocean is absolutely insane. In just 15 minutes you can be attacked by waves and waves of megs, mosas and tusos, often with upwards of 10 or 20 alphas. I often cannot survive if I stay in one place unless unless I god mode or I cheat their imprint bonus to 400%. Thats generally not how I play but I have done it for testing. They stop taking damage when you ride them at that point - I think because of their natural armor + the 4x imprint bonus? Idk, if its truly just the 25%*4 = 100% reduction of damage you'd think other creatures have this too at 400% but my snow owl I tested it on doesnt. Doesnt matter, its a tangent, if you play without cheating and your shadowmanes do not listen to you or even defend themselves when you get swarmed worse than in missions, caves and boss fights.... you just know you're gonna be dead. But on land and when they do listen, oh boy. they're monstrously good. EDIT: you missed explaining the female's mate boost ability, or I failed to pay attention. The female can cloak anyone and any allied creature (very) close to her when she has mate boost. The courage roar is the male's mate boost ability. EDIT 2: if you place a cage over a fish, you can put the fish basket next to it to easily capture it. And if you place the basket on your hotbar, you can refresh the timer by getting into the water and you do not need to release them.

Disagree with majority of the list, nothing makes you evolve faster than simply para/trike, argy, anky and doedic, shadowmane is simply not worth the pain to find a strong one and tame (maybe on fjordur its worth it but definetly not in gen2). Rex still king, easy to tame and strong for all content giga and carcha arent even needed. Andrew is meh at best, basilo and ictio are just must have aswell and even the bats are one of the top picks, you can literally live on grinder+bat+theop loot caves of fjordur that instarespawn loot.
They do, but as corrupted dinos. They are not tameable on extinction, normally. I think with mods you can probably add them but otherwise they're just hazards in the map.
