- PedalsAndEffects is honored to have a guy like Nick Reinhart come through and give us extensive demos of his favorite pedals! In today’s post, he shows us his Ibanez Echo Shifter! I own several delays but while I do not own the Echo Shifter, after this demo I know I’ll be picking one up ASAP. I love the look, functionality, and sound of the Echo Shifter, but the Ibanez reputation is what I can vouch for more than anything else. Ibanez has consistently made great gear over the years and their pedals have always been top notch!
This video was shot and edited by Scott Ward for Vato Negro Productions.

always enjoy seeing nick. bassist and guitarist from my two favorite bands demoing pedals
90% of pedal playing is all in the shoes
haha. i guess my size 11.5 frye boots just aren't pedal friendly
Nick Reinhart the fanciest footwork in punk.
Tip for anyone who wants one:
Try not to run it in the effects loop of your amp. The oscillation can get WAY too loud in there. In front of the amp, the oscillation is a lot safer, and a ton more usable as a tool.

Wow... nice to have this information before I purchase one. Thank man.
Dang! Another delay that I need...
that thing is awesome!!!!
i'm sold on the slider
Man is a legend
godlike foot
second pedel I hever bought, and all because of this channel.
Pretty sick
It's like an advanced Ibanez DE7 if you know what I mean, great pedal !
Get Nate on here!
SOLD!
Damn, I miss owning one of these things.
is that a Built by Ryan pedal there?
cool video
Nicks footwork very technical looking, he could have been a worldclass football player like Messi or Ronaldo.
Cool pedal, sounds like R2D2 sometimes
It's digital.
Sounds good though, thanks for the demo, always a treat seeing you guys demo stuff :)
it's is not digital, it has an all analog signal path. the tap tempo control is digital but it has no bearing on the tone. BBD chips in it like all good analog delays.
+Coldacre the guitar signal is converted to digital twice. it does not have an all analog signal path.
+zernestro it is analog....lol the tap tempo is digitally controlled means there is a computer that control the electrical signal, no changes in 1 to 0 which is what the digital delay does
willbassyeah did you check the schematic? do you understand what an AD & DA means/does?
+zernestro yes i do, AD means the electrical signal are changed to digital data of 1 and 0, DA is making those 1 and 0 to electrical signal again.
the pedal is analog like i mentioned before, it is no longer uncommon to have an analog delay with tap tempo, EHX does it, Deluxe Memory Boy, Deluxe Memoryman 550 TT.
This pedal uses a bucket brigade chip, the tap tempo is digital means they tell the analog component what to do. The signal aren't change to digital at all.
Hey ibanez! Make a new version with an expression pedal that controls that slider
maybe someone with the skills will eventually step up to offer a mod service
nice guitar
How? How?! The footwork. The balance. What?
Can it be like a reverb too? Like can it sound like it?
+Patrick Santos no. this is a single delay. a reverb is a sum of many many delay lines, which are not harmonically related (aka random delay time). this of a sphere (your sound wave) expanding and hitting a random enclosed space. various parts of the sphere-wave hit different parts of the edge of space at different times. Then they bounce of it, travelling back to your ear. all with different delay times. hence you get reverb.
it's really a LOT of delay lines to make a reverb. i'm estimating but probably AT LEAST 10, for a cheap sounding delay.
Well... how does the delay sound? o.O would be nice to hear... =)
Its delay sound is amazing.
Du är fan överallt! 😂
Jag köpte en idag bara för att Kamchatka-gitarristen använder en sån. Jävlar vilken skojig pedal! Mina grannar tror nog att jag börjat knarka..
Some Ninja Tabi boots would be ideal for this pedal!!
damn teal socks
🇲🇽
I was excited about this pedal when it first came out, then I heard that if you turn the pedal off, the tempo reverts back to the slider's current position, and the pedal essentially forgets what tempo you tapped in. This would drive me nuts.
It's not much of hindrance if you plan on leaving it on most of the time or using it as a tool for noisemaking as demonstrated here; but I suppose if it was an issue then one solution might be to use a line selector to bring the effect in and out of your signal chain while keeping the pedal engaged and retaining the tapped tempo.
Wouldn't be a problem if you put it in a bypass loop. Then you could leave it on all the time. An extra pedal for sure but a solution to the problem if that was your only reason for not picking this up.
Thankfully, I have since found pedals that have satisfied any g.a.s. the echo shifter may have caused. Still a cool pedal though.
what's the mod on nicks dl4?
It adds another memory bank to essentially double the number of presets you can store.
Liam Templeton huh that seems odd as he's said he exclusively uses the loop function
LeConor the only other smart switch mods of this type that I'm aware of are: a note subdivision converter; an infinite feedback switch; or a switch that allows you to access the looper without having to turn the preset knob; though none of those seem to be of any particular use if he's only using the looper, so I can only speculate. It was posted on the band's Facebook page a few weeks ago that it was modded by Earthquaker devices, but it didn't mention what was done to it.
LeConor Thinking on it, it might be a switch that allows him to reverse the loop without having to double tap the half-speed switch, for ease of manipulating loops. I'm not sure if any such mod exists, but that would suit his purpose better than any of the other ones I've mentioned.
@@breakalime four years later but, Nick said it changes to loop mode
Son mexicanos?
space pinball
Would be nice to hear some usable tones..
There are a lot of other demos of this pedal with more conventional uses. That they are demoing all of the weird quirky things that the pedals can do really makes this channel stand out from the rest, because atleast to me that is something other demos can lack.
Can't you explain it a little better?
tera m.. is from sacramento.... i think we have meet.. maybe you should come by my studio i own modular synths analog synths pedals like shaman pll lastgrasplabs all the collection red panda 4ms . alcom toft console neve console two m3 tube trackers chained sunns, ampegs oranges , mat amps, a design pre amps eq and compression shadow hills chandler api 16 track new old stock ms 16 reel to reel apogee symphony clasp system, ill stop there... I'm a analog nerd not many in this area.
Skreddy Echo or nothing!
comedy
Barry White?🤣🤷♂️
why a lot Mexican flags ?jajajajaj
LOL! It's not even a demo.
I will talk about the pedal demo after this, rant. Ernesto oh my God you are the world's greatest example of the government's use of chemtrails Nano particulate materials to dumb people down no there is no Reverb whatsoever in this pedal OK rant over. I have looked @ many videos of this es2 Echo shifter notice I said the word Echo...echo.... but everyone freaks out on the middle slider and still has no idea what they're doing and you call this guy a God ?.. in the lyrics of a great 70 song , Show Business kids making movies of themselves you know they don't give a fuck about anybody else. great song smokin hot guitar! right now I'm using an Eventide time-factor, shure , it's a little smaller than a toaster oven and it still can't do what the es2 echo shifter does! & it doesn't come close to my previous pedal which has eatin the dust not bit it ! when I was living in Fort Lauderdale in the 90s I used to have a song ... W / mucho psycho, yet, controlled and Musical runaway feedback. also didn't do the lesson thing..(teach the Metal & ( the cure thing )because you invariably are asked by a student to learn some fucked up song that you hate this happens thousands of times over the course of years and that's why most guitar players sound like other guitar players! BTW I perform under a totally different name than what you see here anyhow it's so fucking simple you're supposed to demo a product not just play with ",Runaway delay time 100% of the video" and even doing that you still have no idea what you're doing ! have you had,... Eddie Kramer , Marilyn Manson , those two are opposites... would..." how do you get those crazy sounds when you're bent over on one knee what is that thing? "and many others
..as I went moved through different bandsI back out of the biz in the 90s because after all with the internet, then, you're giving your music away does your doctor work for free? does your mechanic work for free ? do you get pizza for free ? ,well you can if you know the owner. bottom line even while watching all the other videos Everyone did what you did so don't feel so bad you seem like a cool dude and damn are all those your vintage pedals? while pedals are just a way to make yourself sound like something that you're not they can also be quite inspirational ! it starts with you your soul your fingers having an amazing an amp like a true Plexi Marshall 50 a great way to go and a 4/10 Fender super Reverb without a master volume, after going through a whole bunch of Plexi's I , found in rual, Alabama, which IS, ALL all it's cracked up to be!( while they were auctioning off , The original Muscle Shoals Studio,, ( serious goldmine!).... #1 get the fuck out of Alabama! #2 get rid of the Eventide timeline, it's good for a computer programer who doesn't actually play guitar, but most of all it doesn't sound Musical, and music is all about moving people emotionally. thanks for the video... keep popping them out you'll get better every day... Perfect practice, makes perfect.
Teh fuck...
Daniel Calvo you alright Dan?
Hopefully this person got the help they needed.
Never heard of Nick Reinhart. Not a good demo. Sounds like a kid with a new synth, seeing just how weird he can make it sound. Not musically useful at all. There are other demos on the ES2 and ES3 that demo it in a much more musical context.
My thoughts to the "T"
oh ... a pedal to make silly noises. Does it make a fart sound as well ?
You just played noise the whole time, lame
its cause that thing is way too much fun to play with
that's what music is
Why would anyone spend $150 to sit there and run the oscillation knob up and down? Does this thing have any musical qualities at all?
It's a nice warm ANALOG delay with TAP TEMPO(!) and pitch modulation, with an idiosyncratic design(love the fader). Nick's just showing one application of the pedal, one that's particularly suited to his style of playing(fluid angular lines with sporadic bursts of noise). Those chords he's strumming out at 3:33 are quite lovely though; very musical to my ears and shows that the pedal is capable of pushing out the requisite bread and butter sounds.
