I love RDJ. But I just can't see him as Dr. Doom. It seems odd for him to play that role. I know the 2005 Fantastic Four film gets alot of criticism. But I actually love that movie (I don't care for the 2007 sequel or the 2015 film). And I like the actor who played Dr. Doom in the 2005 film.

I agree. Yes this is obviously hail mary casting and last minute in light of what they happened with Jonathan Majors, but RDJ is a phenomenal actor and I cannot wait to see what he brings to Doom. Also, it is too soon to state that this is antithetical to the character of doom from the comics. We don't know what the character will be yet. This is a kin to how people felt about Tom Cruise as Lestat in Interview and he turned out to be a tremendous Lestat. Same with Michael Keaton as Batman.

The single pertinent line in this whole conversation is "his main job is to make money for marvel" People need to realize, this is a for profit corporation. Its not charity. They dont do what they do to make fans happy or honor comic character legacies. They do what they do to make money. Simple as that. Some times the two sentiments mesh. To make money you have to make a movie that the fans will want to see. But in this case, doesnt matter if the verbal minitory on the internet call it lazy. The mainstream will flock to theaters and buy tickets.

There is a storyline where instead of Reed Richards and Viktor Doom being college roommates, Doom and Stark were instead, and Doom tricked Tony into helping him with an experiment that switched their bodies....because Doom didn't have the backing, finances, or resources Tony had...... who knows where they'll go with this storyline....but the multivererse was introduced for a reason....why not take advantage of it.

One thing no one seems to be talking about. Jonathan Majors showed the bean-counters at Disney that they have to make sure that important, integral characters have to be played by good actors who are *not* going to be an image problem. RDJ is bankable, and has shown that he works well and understands (because of his past, especially) that he represents and supports the corporation.
Oddly. My initial reaction was disappointment. Couldn’t they find another actor with gravitas? An actor outside the stable? It’s nice they have a shiny green title, likely no plot yet. I’m actually looking forward to the FF, even though again they went current popular choice for Reed.
There's a What If story where Doom and Stark were college roommates, long story short, Doom tricked Stark and stole his body leaving Stark in Dooms body with no memory and Doom in Starks body with everything intact.
I'm so surprised by the hate. Theyve' done this twice in the comics and they'e been pretty damn good. Plus it makes no sense for anyone in the marvel universe to play doctor doom, since we havn't heard of him in this universe yet, Secret wars is a world where many universes come together. it makes sense that the doctor doom that controls battleworld is from another universe. And am i wrong when i calculate that tony stark technically was the villian of 3 or 4 different marvel movies (via his bad technology or bad decisons) And, happily there is no need for an origin story when u already have to origin fantastic four gain. instead you can say instead of this happening this happened.
To me, whether or not RDJ is capable of playing Dr Doom is irrelevant. He is now and forever will be known as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU. It’s a silly notion to bring RDJ back as a villain (and one of the most iconic villains in Marvel history).
I think RDJ as Doom is going to be a cool concept. Good thing all the haters and talking heads aren’t forced to watch the movies when they come out. But you all will anyway. Bad takes all around from the What Culture chuckle heads.
Maybe we should give it a chance before we jump to conclusions. If anybody can bring MCU back to its former glory, it’s RDJ. Plus, Doom is an amazing character, I’m excited to see how he pulls it off. To me it seems very obvious one of the producers, shareholders, writers or whatever looked at a picture of Dr. Doom and said “Doom’s just an evil version of Iron Man, right?” and no one was allowed to correct them. Now we have this abomination of a final nail in the mcu’s coffin.
I can only speak for me, but I love the MCU. I like the shows and I like most of the movies, they entertain me. I can’t help but roll my eyes when people talk about superhero movies needing to go away. No one is holding you hostage, don’t watch. Do I think it is great casting? No. Haha, but maybe they will do something cool with it, what do I know? Like others are saying, in the multiverse, there could be multiple and RDJ will be a temp.🤷🏻♂️ At this point I’m willing to watch most things, except Eternals 2, I’m happy that’s off the table.
As long as he NEVER takes off the mask RDJ will probably be fine as Doom. But the second the mask comes off the whole thing will fall apart. And there are plenty of actors better suited to the role.

I think that this will pay off because RDJ is so popular, which he deserves to be because he is so good. Personally I hate it. Iron Man's death was great and I want to have that. Then again, I loved Logan's death and I still went and saw Deadpool and Wolverine a few days ago (worth it for bringing back the character who hates people skating uphill which I did squeal and clap at). My honest prediction is they only want to make a Fantastic Four movie is to introduce Franklin and give us more reality bending stuff.
I feel as though this speaks to a greater issue the MCU has started to run into since approaching variants: consistency and logic. Variants are treated in three ways, the first being that one actor plays a character and all of their variants like Kang and Strange. Second being a character that is portrayed by different actors every time like spider man and reed richards. Third you have cases where an actor plays a chacracter, some of their variants, while different actors play others like Loki. If they chose a path, confusing stuff like this wouldn't be possible.
RDJ is a fantastic actor, I don’t see any problem, no one had a problem with Josh Brolin playing two characters or Oscar Isaac (three for him) or Chris Evans

There are problems...in the book people point to where Doom is Stark Reed is not Doom's rival. If RDJ starts his run as doom in their dimension we don't have that fundamental rivalry. Second, if they come to this dimension it can't be reversed leaving stark in dooms body behind. Maybe we have a Doom in MCU in a coma he can wake up... I think it comes down to how they convinced RDJ to take the role. Give him a script that he thinks is meaty enough to really dig into or back up a truck of money.
It is the multiverse guys - this is how the multiverse works. It's part of Marvel's way (think "What If"). If they weren't going to bring Doom in through Fantastic Four, having other characters interact with a Doctor Doom who looks like Tony Stark in another universe has great potential.
It's exactly why I knew the multiverse was gonna suck. No stakes, no consequences, bring in Fox garbage, recast people left and right, anyone can be anyone and nothing matters.

I'm a big MCU fan and will keep an open mind. DP&W was fantastic, some of the more recent MCU films have been just ok. TV shows have been hit (Loki) and miss (Secret Invasion) but I'm really looking forward to Daredevil: Born Again and the return of the Netflix era street level heroes/vigilantes.
There is the Earth-5012 Tony stary that goes nuts.after a war and has armor similar to dooms and calls himself the "iron maniac" and everyone think he is dr doom..I can see them doing a version of that. Or earth-11029 where Tony and Victor switch bodies but the only way that could work is doom trying some magic maybe to try to bring stark back to life but messes up or somthing amd starks mind invades Victor's mind and maybe theor minds fight for c9ntrol bit that doesn't explain why Victor looks like stark

disney marvel needs to make money. They know this will put audiences in theatres.. they have by and large stopped catering to the comic audience and have been targeting the mainstream audience. You may get some fan service but at the end of the day, they know what works. They can't afford to take risks until they have gotten more hits under their belt.
They wouldn't have announced it if they didn't have a plan already in place. RDJ wouldn't have accepted the gig either if it wasn't different or interesting. Heck they can make it compelling by Victor body swapping with Tony in another universe, kill him, then take over the multiverse by manipulating it
I think it sort of makes sense. These films can’t be just fightfests. It will need some sort of personal dramatic stakes beyond the cosmic ones. The fact that Doom looks like Stark might be something he uses to manipulate the likes of Spidey, Pepper, Rhodes and the others- this is ok by me as a plot point if that’s the route they take. I also think RDJ will be Doom up to Secret Wars before a transition of some sort. Either way, I’ll wait to see how it plays out before getting my knickers in a twist.

Surely there was another actor that could’ve taken up the mantle of Dr Doom, without resorting to more fan-service. Yeah yeah multiversal variants, alternate Tonys, blah blah yawn. If they could do that storyline justice, they would’ve already. It’s beating a dead horse, and an embarrassingly desperate move on the MCU’s behalf to boot. 👎🏼

They brought in an actor we already know has on and off screen chemestry with the other actors/characters, he's an experienced leader and a recent Oscar winner.
He said he wouldn't play Tony Stark anymore and, since Endgame, he didn't. Not even a cameo. He's gonna play Viktor Von Doom, not Tony Stark.

There is a storyline where instead of Reed Richards and Viktor Doom being college roommates, Doom and Stark were instead, and Doom tricked Tony into helping him with an experiment that switched their bodies....because Doom didn't have the backing, finances, or resources Tony had...... who knows where they'll go with this storyline....but the multivererse was introduced for a reason....why not take advantage of it.
He better die to be replace by the storyline's real Doom.

One thing no one seems to be talking about. Jonathan Majors showed the bean-counters at Disney that they have to make sure that important, integral characters have to be played by good actors who are *not* going to be an image problem. RDJ is bankable, and has shown that he works well and understands (because of his past, especially) that he represents and supports the corporation.

Oddly. My initial reaction was disappointment. Couldn’t they find another actor with gravitas? An actor outside the stable? It’s nice they have a shiny green title, likely no plot yet. I’m actually looking forward to the FF, even though again they went current popular choice for Reed.
There's a What If story where Doom and Stark were college roommates, long story short, Doom tricked Stark and stole his body leaving Stark in Dooms body with no memory and Doom in Starks body with everything intact.

Secret wars is a world where many universes come together. it makes sense that the doctor doom that controls battleworld is from another universe.

To me, whether or not RDJ is capable of playing Dr Doom is irrelevant. He is now and forever will be known as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU. It’s a silly notion to bring RDJ back as a villain (and one of the most iconic villains in Marvel history).
I think RDJ as Doom is going to be a cool concept. Good thing all the haters and talking heads aren’t forced to watch the movies when they come out. But you all will anyway. Bad takes all around from the What Culture chuckle heads.

Maybe we should give it a chance before we jump to conclusions. If anybody can bring MCU back to its former glory, it’s RDJ. Plus, Doom is an amazing character, I’m excited to see how he pulls it off. I just hope they don’t bring in a bunch of female characters to beat him as Disney has been known to do in the last few years.

To me it seems very obvious one of the producers, shareholders, writers or whatever looked at a picture of Dr. Doom and said “Doom’s just an evil version of Iron Man, right?” and no one was allowed to correct them. Now we have this abomination of a final nail in the mcu’s coffin.

As long as he NEVER takes off the mask RDJ will probably be fine as Doom. But the second the mask comes off the whole thing will fall apart. And there are plenty of actors better suited to the role.

I think that this will pay off because RDJ is so popular, which he deserves to be because he is so good. Personally I hate it. Iron Man's death was great and I want to have that. Then again, I loved Logan's death and I still went and saw Deadpool and Wolverine a few days ago (worth it for bringing back the character who hates people skating uphill which I did squeal and clap at). My honest prediction is they only want to make a Fantastic Four movie is to introduce Franklin and give us more reality bending stuff.

I feel as though this speaks to a greater issue the MCU has started to run into since approaching variants: consistency and logic. Variants are treated in three ways, the first being that one actor plays a character and all of their variants like Kang and Strange. Second being a character that is portrayed by different actors every time like spider man and reed richards. Third you have cases where an actor plays a chacracter, some of their variants, while different actors play others like Loki. If they chose a path, confusing stuff like this wouldn't be possible.

To be fair, Josh Brolin’s two characters were in different universes, same with Chris Evans and Oscar Isaac. This is RDJ playing two characters in the SAME universe and continuity and I think that’s what’s getting people, myself included.

No one has said this Victor von Doom is from Earth-1999999999, and given this is MULTIVERSE saga, it’s very likely he’ll be from a different universe, possibly the one Fantastic 4: First Steps takes place in.
Disney/Marvel has been all about fan service with famous faces, ever since Capt. America: Civil War, so I'm not surprised.

Nothing quite like pissing on an actor's greatest role and a martyred character's grave. Killing two good things with one cash grab. Stupid ,desperate, disrespectful and sad.
There are problems...in the book people point to where Doom is Stark Reed is not Doom's rival. If RDJ starts his run as doom in their dimension we don't have that fundamental rivalry. Second, if they come to this dimension it can't be reversed leaving stark in dooms body behind. Maybe we have a Doom in MCU in a coma he can wake up... I think it comes down to how they convinced RDJ to take the role. Give him a script that he thinks is meaty enough to really dig into or back up a truck of money.
It is the multiverse guys - this is how the multiverse works. It's part of Marvel's way (think "What If"). If they weren't going to bring Doom in through Fantastic Four, having other characters interact with a Doctor Doom who looks like Tony Stark in another universe has great potential.
It's exactly why I knew the multiverse was gonna suck. No stakes, no consequences, bring in Fox garbage, recast people left and right, anyone can be anyone and nothing matters.
Weirdly, I think this could kind of work if they go with the version of Doom that’s actually Tony Stark; like the multiverse merged or some crap and brought him back but in a different way. That would be a nice twist I guess.
I'm a big MCU fan and will keep an open mind. DP&W was fantastic, some of the more recent MCU films have been just ok. TV shows have been hit (Loki) and miss (Secret Invasion) but I'm really looking forward to Daredevil: Born Again and the return of the Netflix era street level heroes/vigilantes.
There is the Earth-5012 Tony stary that goes nuts.after a war and has armor similar to dooms and calls himself the "iron maniac" and everyone think he is dr doom..I can see them doing a version of that. Or earth-11029 where Tony and Victor switch bodies but the only way that could work is doom trying some magic maybe to try to bring stark back to life but messes up or somthing amd starks mind invades Victor's mind and maybe theor minds fight for c9ntrol bit that doesn't explain why Victor looks like stark

RDJ isn't a box office draw outside of the MCU (Oppenheimer would've done well with or w/o him), the Russo Bros haven't done well since Endgame and though Deadpool is doing well financially, it fixes nothing creatively so I get this choice. It's bankrupt but will be profitable, especially for 3 parties involved. Fans? Get ready for another half decade of member berries.

I really can't fathom why anyone would use RDJ as Dr.Doom when he literally MADE the character Ironman on screen. This makes me weep for the franchise and I honestly love RDJ but his is just a bad move.
disney marvel needs to make money. They know this will put audiences in theatres.. they have by and large stopped catering to the comic audience and have been targeting the mainstream audience. You may get some fan service but at the end of the day, they know what works. They can't afford to take risks until they have gotten more hits under their belt.

They wouldn't have announced it if they didn't have a plan already in place. RDJ wouldn't have accepted the gig either if it wasn't different or interesting. Heck they can make it compelling by Victor body swapping with Tony in another universe, kill him, then take over the multiverse by manipulating it
I think it sort of makes sense. These films can’t be just fightfests. It will need some sort of personal dramatic stakes beyond the cosmic ones. The fact that Doom looks like Stark might be something he uses to manipulate the likes of Spidey, Pepper, Rhodes and the others- this is ok by me as a plot point if that’s the route they take. I also think RDJ will be Doom up to Secret Wars before a transition of some sort. Either way, I’ll wait to see how it plays out before getting my knickers in a twist.
