Brazilian here! Some clarifications since I've been following them a lot outside of the show:
1 - Ingrid's eldest daughter is biologically her cousin, I believe Ingrid adopted her because the parents weren't able to care for her. Either way, she's only 13-ish years older than the daughter, that's why math wasn't mathing
2 - Contestants said that out of 32 participants, abut 10 couples left the pods. They just choose 5 (probably the most entertaining) to film the whole show. Kaled and Muriel said they'd actually would've loved to film just weren't chosen for it.
3 - Evandro's story is a looot more complicated. It's not that the mom didn't let him see his son, he had every opportunity to but chose not to be in his life. He was never remotely a dad, never helped the mom who was struggling to pay basic needs for the kid, never visited or called even when he had all of their info, etc. And though Evandro makes it sound like he was fighting to be a father to his son, no there isn't anything, no court fillings, no nothing for 12 years, until when he was coming to do the show. Once he got casted for the show, that's when he finally got in contact and tried to make amends, because he knew he was going to be on the show and it likely would've been brought up. The mother of his other two daughters also said she had similar issues even years later.
4 - While Ariela still went the wrong way about things, she talked about how there was so much the Netflix didn't show. She mentioned how Evandro would lie about everything (even small, un-important stuff), and they only really showed the bigger stuff. Evandro's old partners, and even his family, also confirmed that he does lie about everything. And from lying about his job, his son, his ex, etc (Plus everyone else on the show telling her she was the one in the wrong) she started freaking out. I think Evandro being quiet and seemingly calm while gaslighting her and us the audience about everything, also makes it so he comes off as the one that's right (and Ariela's outburst didn't help either). Even on this episode most of the things you guys heard from him is proven to be false.
Another thing Ariela mentioned they didn't show much was how a lot came up that made her question if he'd be a good father to her kid. One thing I've noticed is that he talks about any of his 3 children as if they are expenses, not actual people. He also only talks about them when needed, he is not an enthusiastic father by no means. I guess Ariela worried him being so distant from his kids could only harm her and her daughter.
Anyway, that's just a bit of what's going on, there's soooooo much more

I appreciate the thoughtful deets. Im trying to avoid spoilers and all the dirt coming out right now. I can see how that lines up. The timings are odd in the least and it does sound like some convenient image scrubbing. I still think Ariela popping off at everyone is bad form but that does tend to happen when someone feels manipulated and pushed to the brink. Sounds like theres gonna be a messy reunion for sure

Everybody eat açaí in Brazil, but is not like for us, from the north.
Açaí is an amazonian fruit that gets feed a lot of people specially the indigenous population. If we have this habit, it’s thanks to the indigenous people… :)
I saw comments here saying that açaí it’s like “ice cream” which is not true.

It's a shame there is no duty of care when it comes to people slipping into some kind of mental health issue on this show. Arielia and Evandro both have a lot of issues, and I think Evandro handled his past as best he could. He seems to he putting effort into making his past right. Arielia is completely unaware of how much she is using her past as a crutch for her bad behavior. Not once has she acknowledged that she has a problem. It's is totally disregulated and the alcohol is like throwing gas on a fire.

Your reactions are the best way to watch this show for me! I find it hard to understand why the other contestants have put up with Ariela's toxic behaviors to the degree they have, and even encouraging her to stay in these social situations. So I liked the scene where other contestants told Evandro to have some self respect damnit. Don't get me wrong I think Evandro gives huge red flags, but the way Ariela is going about it is toxic and maybe even abusive

I only watch the show through these recaps so I don't know anything other than these recaps (don't have Netflix at the moment), but I suspect that the other participants were prompted to chase Ariela down by the production staff. And if I was one of them, I'd probably rather get through some uncomfortable "parties" where the show was definitely meeting its drama quotient than risk them throwing bombs at my relationship.

i feel like a lot of people are upset with evandro and want you to be angry at him too. and he does have a lot of flaws, but no one deserves to be yelled at and disrespected. if she doesn’t think she can accept his baggage then the smart decision is to leave the relationship. not attack him in front of all his friends and then put your anger on all her other couples.

  • @laurathepoet
    @laurathepoet 7 дней назад +2

I could not wait for y'all to review this episode. I have gone back and forth about how to view Ariella's behavior, because to be honest, she reminds me of my younger self. When you've experience trauma, we often have something called "emotional memory" where our recollection of an event can be totally different from reality becuase it triggers a past event so intensely. I also used to dissociate and forget truths that were too hard to hear, so it would skew what someone else said. I have practiced "active listening" where I repeat back what someone is saying to me, get clarification, and hopefully understand them and not take literally everything as a personal attack. Ariella experience lifelong emotional (maybe physical) abuse because of her physical appearance. She needs help because I'm guessing she keeps ending up in relationships with men who lie and gaslight because they feel familiar, seem too good to be true, but end up being very toxic.
Evandro has not been forthcoming: with his family AND with Ariella. I think Ariella's behavior is overshadowing what he did when he failed to disclose he had another child. I give him credit for trying to make amends now, whatever the reasoning, but if that was a deal-breaker for her, she should have said it. No need to judge and shame him, berate him and question is character. That is emotional abuse, in my opinion. When someone hurts you, that doesn't give you the right to hurt them back. She is hurt, so she's lashing out. They both need help.
My favorite part of this episode is when Kaled is by the pool just chilling and all this drama erupts and his face is just like, "What the hell is happening right now???" Toooooo funny! I definitely want an entire episode devoted to their story. Maybe because she intially rejected him they decided not to proceed? I really hope it wasn't because he carries extra weight.
As a final note, I would PAY to see your commentary on LIB Japan. The customs and manners and culture influence this show SOOOOO much!! Learning about certain parts of another culture can be a fun bonus to watching reality TV not set in the U.S. (and I also recognize the ppl on these shows do not represent all of their country, it's more nuanced, but still interesting to watch).

Açaí is Definitely not fancy but it's not that cheap either. So you definitely can't be eating a bowl everyday without affecting your pockets long-term lol so i guess it nakes the breakfast more special . It's so interesting to me how Açaí became a thing in the US. It's very common in Brazil, like every street has an açaí place. Often a replacement for ice cream., but more similar to a gelato.

  • @leeshizzle
    @leeshizzle 7 дней назад +5

açaí is very popular in brazil, it's not really fancy 😅 it's sort of like ice cream, but less creamy. I don't like it, so for me it tastes like dirt, but that's not really a popular opinion, most people loooove it.
about evandro's kid, i heard something about the mother speaking up on tiktok about how the story wasn't exactly like he told it in the show (as in her keeping him away from the child), but i haven't watched her tiktok yet, so i don't know the details. when i do i'll definitely comment sth.
i kinda have a different perspective on patrick, but i know people who know him, so that might be it. i know of some things he lied about or at best embellished in the show. but he's also part of a very specific class of people from são paulo, and the men who are in this circle know exactly what's going to make them look bad and be cancelled, so you might be confused about him because he's basically editing himself to not look like a jerk. i feel like this is an awareness that fuckboys in the US lack sometimes, so they're more obvious than the guys in the brazilian versions are. i could be wrong though, i don't know him personally

    Brazilians: What is recovery?
I know what I'm talking about. I'm in recovery for the last three years, I've been to a big podcast here to talk about alcoholism, but we *DEFINITELY* don't have a recovery culture. Yes, we have the 12 step programs, but they aren't near what they are in countries where people speak English, so much so that people who owns a rehab are heroes here.
If you don't drink, people will ask you why, and people can isolate you. I've been in recovery here as well as in England. And even in England where they have a drinking culture, they know what recovery means, while here... Gosh...

He abandoned his kid for 12 years, lied about the mother not wanting him near the child, which is a typical lie told by deadbeat fathers, has a bad relationship with the mother of his daughters, which led to a legal dispute. There are too many red flags to ignore. He seems to be the type of man that hides behind this calm, thoughtful, caring person, while driving his partner crazy. It is easier to blame Ariela, due to her temper, than Evandro, but lets analyze the facts and you will see that she is not as crazy as she is potrayed to be.

But, that being said, it is common for a woman to yell at her husband, *because* she has no power. I think people just accept this kind of behavior and honestly, a lot of men here tend to be aloof/nonchalant, extremely calm and distant, which "makes" their women scream to be heard and validated (thats the cultural pattern i see in evandro and ariela)

She is focused on fixing the external and it is the internal that is being neglected, you can be super pretty on the outside but behaving the way in which Ariela has been behaving really makes her look ugly and what sane healthy person wants to be in a relationship with someone like Ariela.
if she values honesty that much she should start by being honest with herself in that she needs help navigating on her healing journey because she is just bleeding on everyone

hiding the information of having a son way too late into the experiment is a big deal breaker, I don't know why you guys are raking it lightly and excusing Evandro.

Hey, brazilian here. Alexandre is as rude as Ariela or maybe even more so. And you're giving a heck of a pass for Evandro. He's clearly sugarcoating and omitting things about his judicial situation. Patrick is imature as f* and can't listen to Marília comunicated needs.

What do you think about Ingrid and Leandro? I'm not convinced about him. I think he wants a sugar mommy. I don't know if he's really attracted to her.......

Whyre you guys such Evander Stan’s. You’re defensive of every red flag he has. I think Ariellas reacting normally for his constant gaslighting and evasion of ownership. Also ariella doesn’t like him, so I think she chose him bc she presumed he’d be a safe choice who would simp for her. Ya that’s an entitled expectation but post weight loss there’s all sorts of dreamy expectations you’re hoping you get once you’ve lost weight!

I noticed this in myself, and I think it's because of how reasonable his demeanor is, even in response to Ariella's insane behavior. The "crazy ex-girlfriend" trope is a trop for a reason, American culture really plays that up, despite the fact that men lie, love-bomb, gaslight women and come out looking fine because they stayed calm. Thanks for calling this out.

We arent Evandro fans at all. We avoid the dirt on the internet as much as possible. We stand by that Ariela handles it poorly and should just leave, but it does seem everything Evandro says is a half truth, we talk about it a bit in ep8

@@membriash I see y'all have left this comment a few times. Don't worry, we don't think you're defending him, this episode was def heavy on Ariellas unacceptable behavior, so it is hard to even remember what started it.

Toxic man with a soft voice makes a woman looks crazy. That's the operation mode....lots of info about Evandro coming up, and the editing making Evandro look good. Ariela is seeing shit and getting gaslighted. The truth is that Evandro did have a relationship outside the show and gosted both of his baby mom's for years. He never paid child support, he was never in the financial market

Why are you defending a deadbeat dad? Just because he is calm and soft spoken? Plenty of gas lighters have this demeanor. Ariella's behavior is awful, but not one person at the pool has validated her feelings, especially Evandro. And then you bring up race? Focus on his lying and Ariella's temper.

Plenty of black men in the US have been murdered for perceived, falsely alleged, or actual disrespect towards a white woman, so Im comfortable bringing it up given the on screen dynamic. We also bring up classism, colorism, and sexism. We dont know the specific nuances to Brazilian culture however, and rely on locals to fill in the gaps for us, for which we are thankful. So far the prevailing dialogue is around mysoginy and sexism allowing the men to seem nonchalant while not showing up. We talk more about this episode 8

@membriash I don't disagree with injustice towards people of color. However, we are seeing very small EDITED video clips. The topic of racism can be very volatile and to bring it up casually seems careless, especially when many of these people receive nasty messages and death threats in their DMs. I'm not saying that is what happened to Ariella, but we've already heard about similar situations from other reality show participants.
