It's 10.30pm Tuesday night 12/03/2024 and I've just flicked the T.V. over to Ch 9 in Sydney.
They were showing The Raspberries "Go all the Way"
I thought "Why are they playing that?" "Is Eric touring soon?"
Then I thought "Oh no he hasn't died" "Has he?"
My fears were confirmed by the news voice over person.
    "Eric Carmen was 74"
    Now I can't stop crying.
Not only did Eric help create one of the greatest, mind blowing Guitar riffs in Rock history, he then composed some of the most tasteful Ballads of all time.
Good quality Ballads are extremely hard to write.
Thanks for the great music and the brilliant singing voice Eric.
Eric lived a successful existence and died peacefully in his sleep.
    "Come on Baby!!!"
    RIP - Eric Carmen

2:51 "he really seems lonely" ....exactly! That's the beauty and genius of his song and his performance of it. Something the cover versions completely seem to ignore, no doubt Celine has a crazy voice but her rendition of this song is such a drop from the original IMO.

Eric Carmen began as the lead singer and main songwriter for The Raspberries. A great band that was very popular in the early to mid seventies. He left them in 1975 or so. This song was released in 1976 along with another big hit for him, titled, Never Gonna Fall In Love Again. He's had a very good solo career. Teen idol, Shaun Cassidy, had big hits with two of Eric Carmen's songs. Hey Deanie and That's Rock and Roll...

I remember this devastating song. I was just a kid. But here is my take on this... he was happy just doing his own thing and using people, using girls. But when he got older everyone had went on without him and nobody cared. He was harvesting the devastating loneliness caused by his keeping people outside of his heart. But now he realizes how much they meant to him and it’s too late.

I had respected Eric for years after hearing him launch the song at 3:27 into Sergei Rachmaninoff's piano concerto in C minor. Songwriters plucked two absolutely gorgeous melodies from Rachmaninoff's concerto: Full Moon and Open Arms, and Eric's All By Myself. Eric did such a splendid job with Rachmaninoff, I often wished he would play the entire concerto. Regardless, I grew up learning classical music and totally broke loose when Rock, R&B, Funk, and jazz fusion hit the world. But I always had, and will have, a special place in my heart for such an emotive, accomplished, and sensitive talented musician and gifted songwriter. Honestly, Eric had it all, and it still irks me that he's often overlooked as one of the finest musical talents of his era.

Classic 70s ballad. Around the same time, he sang another beautiful ballad called "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" you should listen to!

The guitar solo was by studio musician Hugh McCracken. I had to look that up because I thought it sounded a lot like George Harrison. Bought this album as a teenager in 1975. One of my favorites, still listen to it to this day, all these decades later. Love all the homages to Rachmaninov on the album, whole melodies. No cover will ever be as good as the original.

India, don't let yourself get too caught up in the lyrics. Just let yourself feel. This song has gorgeously "moody" piano.

This used to be my theme song. He's the composer of this composition. A very talented classical pianist. The musical interlude is hauntingly beautiful! Yes, through high school and long afterward, it was my theme song. 😞

Eric Carmen is on Twitter! I checked this album out from the library in the 11th grade--so I could copy it onto an 8 track tape!

Always used to belt this out with Eric back in the day Great Lyric great arrangement this is a true classic Nice reaction as always glad to see you getting exposed to so many of these old greats!

This is one of the songs I remember hearing at the Drive-in movies and they would play this on the speaker you hung on your car window. With the low quality speakers, gave this song an even more sad and Lonely.
There was another song that was played and I can't think of it at the moment..........I'll try to think of it and post it later.............

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was 12, we had just dropped my best friend with her parents to return to Augusta after visiting me in Savannah and THEN the news of Elvis passing came over the radio. Not a good day!

Eric Carman was original. 60’s/70’s was so great. I’m so glad you are discovering these oldies. Love watching your reaction. When my grandchildren are here and here my music they are amazed. I will continue watching you India
