Saddest part is that literally all the maker needed to do was just copy & paste FE6 into FE8 with some QOL changes and I actually would've loved this hack (and, if he allowed it, would've been actually helpful to other hackers because FE6 is far more annoying to hack than 7 & especially 8). Literally everything else here did NOT need to exist
I agree! I actually genuinely enjoyed having a world map of Elibe to walk around on between chapters, even if the distribution of world map shops was extremely awkward and silly. In general, I think remake hacks often trip over their own feet trying too hard to 'fix' the games they're based off of.
Proyect FeRE6 is doing this and not long ago have enter Beta period with all parts of the game being fully playable. Its still very unfinish, but it plans to be as accurate as posible to Fe6 with the only new feature being Fe8 split promotions and thats it. I recomend it a lot and I would let this fraud of a "creator" to die in obscurity.
People often mistake changes they would personally like with common sense-changes(like say, decouple 19XX in FE7 from Lynmode because it makes no sense in story and negative sense gamedesign wise). I am incredibly afraid of doing a similar oopsie with RE7.
@@Shark3143Was the Elibe map one continuous chain of nodes in a linear fashion with no branching paths that is so long that you can't walk back to the start of the game form Bern because the path finding is too long for the game to know where it needs to go? holy shit me cameo at 2:24 that aside though, as funny as it is to make fun of the guy for being "The FE6 guy", it's just kinda sad at the end of the day that people don't get the credit they deserve. (so thanks for showing our credits when you did!) People have access to a lot of assets through the public repo, yet for some reason they have the need to scrub our names out just so they can get the ego boost. It helps us when we do get credited since, we actually do work on these things!
I decided to try out this hack out of curiosity a couple weeks ago and quickly dropped it. The most glaring issue that stood out to me was the multitude of grammar mistakes, like the missing commas that Shark pointed out in the video. The original dialogue that was added felt like poorly written fanfiction too. It really speaks to the quality of this "remake" when the person making it couldn't be arsed to even proofread his own original dialogue...
...What was even the point in deciding to add Capturing to FE6? Yeah, it's a very fun mechanic, but half of that is because of how it ties into the story. Throughout the game, Leif's "army" is undersupplied and broke, and the only way he can keep his army afloat, especially in the early game, is often to take weapons from enemies. Roy doesn't have to do this at all. Is the guy trying to remake FE6 or just make an amalgamation of mechanics from other games taken out of context and disguise it as FE6?
You know, I think capture actually kinda makes sense for fe6, but only in the first section of the game. Since Roy's army is very understaffed and isn't really well funded. But after Etruia steps in... yeah, throw capture out the bleeding window!
@dustgraystone9448 Yup, I mean, say what you will about fates, but at least you can see some form of why capture makes sense. You know Corrin being a Shounin protagonist shouting super hero quotes and screaming "LOVE AND PEACE makes PERFECT sense by Fates standard (as you know😅)
Actually, yeah, an older Lyn showing up to FE6 on horseback is pretty cool! There genuinely are things I enjoyed in this remake, it's just the greater whole dragging them down for me.
@@EmissaryOfSmeagol The 'Adult Lyn' sprite is from the public asset repository. Its use was properly credited in this project, actually, so no issues there!

I do want to say, being able to grind your benched units down into stat booster paste is some truly genius game design. They really took Shura's boots to the next level.
Hello, I'm UltraFenix, and I've been helping ZeN (AKA the binding blade guy) with new features for the hack, which is being completely redone to be a little more unique, different, and of course, balanced. The video was shared on the project's discord server, and will help a lot in improving things. I invite everyone to continue giving their suggestions and criticisms on the server's dedicated channels about the hack.
H5 is unironically fairer than several highest dofficulties, largely because you got tons of utterly broken tools: wing spear, General Sedgar(and reclassing nonsense in general), ballisticians, infinite range warp. The big issue is that 70% of the playable characters may as well not exist because they are just worse versions of someone else.
@@noukan42that was actually Kaga’s philosophy for the filler units. If you lost too many of the good units, you can still somewhat try to salvage the run by putting in the time to train up the filler units. 12:07 That happened because if the final hit on a boss that's supposed to spawn a 'true boss' is a crit, the game glitches and doesn't spawn the boss! A fact I abused in my run of the game, with Killer Bow Sue, and Rutger (the character.) It's very consistent. This game is such a mess. I played one of the first versions of this hack 3 weeks after it came out. It's very disheartening to see nothing has gotten better. This hack is a mess and I feel bad for all the creators that were slighted in the creation of it. It was unfair to them to have their assets and ideas stolen in the name of creating something 'better' than the original work. I hope the hack creator sees the reception to his hack and grows as a person. He came in with a rather toxic mindset and I feel if his motivation for making the hack weren't out of spite or pride, he could have created something great. But instead things turned out like this. A rather unfortunate conclusion
@@Shark3143 No problem! At another point in the video I believe your Lilina activated the bug too. In 12x I believe. Definitely useful for warp skipping. That's how I played 14x
As a practiced Awakening rom-hacker at this point, I would really like to give "The Binding Blade Guy" some benefit of the doubt. You absolutely do not do this much work without real passion for the thing you're working on. Even if he didn't make all the assets, didn't do all the writing, didn't uh... well didn't do quite a few things himself, I still really appreciate where the effort came from. That said, I've only ever played FE6 itself, never PE or this. I was actually planning on using this mod for my next crack at FE6, but now I most certainly will not be doing that. This was a very informative video. Thank you.

8:07 yeah in fact it's so bad you can just give all spirit dusts to Roy and have him spam the fire emblem for comedic effect and it's actually quite decent since its a 1 2 range weapon that doesn't break. I would know, because I did exactly that
Man even if managed to do a full remake of FE6 on Engage's engine that actually worked and looked good I wouldn't be calling myself "THE Binding Blade guy." When I clicked I was expecting you to be talking about Project Ember actually, which I enjoyed but knew other people had complaints about, but the title still seemed a bit harsh. So fairly relieved it was about a different project literally called "Remake" haha
Side note, it is possible to steal a firestone in fe6. If you let a thief get berserked near an enemy manakete, they will steal their firestone. It is risky but very fun
I just beat FE7 for the first time a week or so ago so I was looking for a way to play FE6. I came across this rom hack and was definitely thinking of playing it instead of the original - I’m glad I saw this video first!
The design philosophy for this hack probably used the "sure, bro" method: every time a question of "should we add/change this?" was asked, the answer was, invariably, "sure, bro!"
It's fairly easy to remove, so idk. The idea I personally had for a similar FE7 project would be to have a dimensional overlap of worlds as the explanation for keeping the creature campaign as an optional postgame-mode. I couldn't tell you why someone would put this random tower there to grind during the actual canon-adjacent storymode tho. Maybe the enemies are that broken because they grinded there too, lol.
My favorite part of Fire Emblem 6 "remake" is when he attack the final boss and said: "I'm the Fire Emblem 6 remake guy" and Fire embling all the Fire emblems.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, for going into depth on issues like reinforcement flags not working and the palette inconsistencies on battle sprites. As an FE rom hacker myself, proper analysis that understands the inner workings of the game is a rare treat.
I remember seeing the post a few months back and thought “oh wow fe6 in 8 that sounds like a fun little thing” and then started reading all of it and my enjoyment started draining more and more ive only watched the intro so far but thus game seems miserable to play and not in the like fe12 lunatic reverse way more like playing awakening normal mode kinda way
I've played a lot of great FEUniverse hacks myself, but I always evaded this one as something in the back of my head was telling me 'No', plus I had other stuff to do at the time. Never would I have imagined the absolute mess of a rabbit hole that this one hack had, and how deep it was. Hope that this video at least also indirectly spark some curiosity for people to search about the actually good FE hacks. Thanks for the video Shark!
I was the first person complete the hack and give feedback on the thread about the issue I had and I'm glad someone was able to go into more depth on the critisism of the romhack. The issue I have with the hack that was touched on only a little bit in the video is the complete lack of playtesting in the hack. I ran into 2 softlocks in my playthrough, the first being that you were unable to seize in the illa gaiden, and the hanon not spawning in the sacae gaiden (which apparently is still semi-active, as you seem to encountered some version of it).
Thank you for making this video. I get maybe accidentally forgetting to give credit once in a while, but blatantly taking other creators work and claiming them as your own in a community where the Fire Emblem repository exists, like how did this person expect that no one would notice, or even considered it? When I saw their post on FEUniverse, the minute I saw that they “added” Debias I turned away my interests completely. At that point, it only made me uninterested in the project, even with the updates it would get.
7:30 I have seen this video multiple times and I just realized that if you don't lose units due to route splits that means you can get both Larum and Elfin for double dance starts which means you can get infinite turns. Also is it possible to grind away characters that are needed for the good ending?
As someone working on a romhack for the very first time, I am very happy to say that our team, even in the VERY early stages of this project, is showing far more care and consideration to storywriting and game balance than was done here
Me and a few friends were watching another of our friends playing it, after a few hours we were laughing like we were going crazy, it was painful to watch
@@stefanarlio1579 he gives ages to the characters, two new endings are Lance with Clarine (22 with 14), Gonzo and Lilina (28 with 15) A extra thing to mention, Rutger was always treated to be in a range of more or less in his twenties, in the game he's treated as 17, somehow he doesn't have an ending with Clarine, but Lance does (Added endings are to be precise Clarine with Lance, Lilina with Gonzo, Astolfo with Igrene and Noah with Fir)
Noah with Fir and Astolfo with Igrene make sense at least, but the other two are just straight up illegal. Now ain't that what we asked for in our really bad FE6 ROM hack?
What's shocking is how a more recent version is less stable then the version I beat which was a year older. Which also had shana with a wing spear, a few prepromoted units were terrifying and actually straight unkillable at one point. As for the Riptide, PE technically ripped that off from the Buhji (i may have mispelled that) or as a certain egg refered to it the Pugi. Which has it's stats mirrored in every one of his meme hacks as his personal weapon. The only real thing I can say about the portraits though is, for the most part, the PE portraits already had been in the repo prior so i don't exactly believe those were "stolen" per se. Especially since the FE6 portraits aren't inherently compatible with the FE8 engine, so he'd need new portraits for the entire thing anyway.
Interesting that the PE portraits were temporarily in the repository -- I made sure to scour it while making the video and I didn't see them there. FE6 Portraits aren't hard to import into FE8, they just lack blinking animation frames, which would need to be drawn on.
What a messy situation😮 Always great to see a new video from you. You have such a unique and entertaining way of tearing stuff down. Can't wait for the rest of Radiant Dawn!😁 It's a shame that something like this has happened in the hacking scene😕
The Thracia elements, like all the unique weapons and skills sound really cool if the hack wasn't so unbalanced (from what you say). The thing with enemies having such powerful skills sounds like such a pain too; having to check them all before doing anything. Really tripped my up in FE5 where enemies often had effective weapons or you'd end up in the range of a ballista you didn't even realize was there.
This makes me so upset. I thought that Remake and Ember were completely different things that were just similar at the beginning. I haven't gotten far in either so I guess Im glad I saw this now rather than later.
I remember playing this hack a long time ago. Major bugs, unbalanced skills, and a Lilina starting at level 7 with WORSE BASES THAN VANILLA. Holy hell that was a giant dumpster fest

I personally play a Pokemon ROM hack that suffers a weird glitch with the music (Sword & Shield Ultimate GBA). Every once in a while, some of it just stops working correctly until you heal at a Pokemon Center. This is a glitch that the dev couldn't patch at all, but aside from occasional visual oddities, they managed to make a really good demake. This 'remake' is just pure laziness and greed, simple as that
You have to appreciate the stones on this guy for calling himself "the Binding Blade Guy" and then proceeding to shamelessly steal almost everything from a rom hack with actual thought and care put into it.
As a person who barely plays many rom hacks but plays a lot of the 3ds era of fire emblem (probably how I found this video.) I really enjoy your video and was fun to look at what not to do on making a fire emblem rom hack. Anyway, cheers if you see this.
bruh. I literally thought this video was going to be on project Ember lol. Really glad on what I got Bootleg project ember. It was a very entertaining video.
here's a hot take, FE games in general don't really need huge remakes that completely change the entire game, If a person wants to make some crazy hack that doesn't even resemble the original, they should just make an original romhack! EDIT: OH god its just mostly taking from another romhack, that's even worse lmao.
I think that the one who has the most need for this sort of thing is Fates Birthright and Revelation, in fact there are hack roms who try to do that but they aren't finished.
As a huge FE6 fan and someone who enjoyed (but hadn't finished) both Project Ember and this remake, I had no idea of all the issues plaguing this rom hack. This video surprised me since I don't really follow FE rom hacking so closely lately, I just look back every so often and in those times it's usually progressed leaps and bounds from when I last saw it. Great video, super informative, and kindly have my sub.
13:50 I know this was just a really unfortunate side effect of bosses having leadership stars and their effect not being turned off when they're noncombatants... But this would be kinda cool to see implemented (intentionally and with care) in another rom hack. Cutscene-only bosses temporarily boosting their army's performance while they're on the field, I mean.
When I saw this hack featured in the Emblemcon panel on FE6 reduxes I was exasperated beyond belief Glad to see a video being made on the creator’s scummy behavior and the hack’s highly questionable design decisions, hopefully it’ll get the word out to more people to steer clear of it
Ive tried this remake, my game keeps crashing on the opening cutscene on the chapter were you fight Narcian, i cant skip it so its basically unplayable for me which is kida sad but eh.
The reason the ch 16x sky breaks is because it uses the "cloudy" weather which is incompatible with on map HP bars, I'm not sure why but my guess is that the HP bar patch sprites conflict with how that weather type displays, my guess is the fact it animates, since the dragon temple gradient weather doesn't mess with it, and the only difference is it's lack of animation. As a side note I recommend if you want an alternate FE6 experience that's not just a rebalence check out hacks made in FE6 like Eckesachs, Yoder Route, no redundancy, or uh I guess second scouring [I don't think it's good but you might and hey, at least there's no theft!]... Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment, outside rebalances. If you want you can also check out my project Mina's Adventure, I'm pretty close to finishing the next update, which will add Etruia and Sacae.
Quick note on this. Clouds and HP bars are normally incompatible with each other (what would happen is cloud gfx would overwrite the HP bar gfx), but there is a fix. I don't know if that's used here, though. This particular bug with the clouds is caused by the hit effects in on-map combat overtaking the palette bank the clouds use, leading to a sudden change in the clouds' colors as soon as a hit lands.
6:08 I really enjoy how the reveal of the powerstaff ability is framed almost like a jump scare. Once my brain registered what I was reading, I actually screamed

I don't know why this joke came to mind a month later. But this is truly the Yakuza Kiwami of Fire Emblem games. Instead of remaking the game, the creator just pays lip service to other games, and also reuses assets from other games.

The last time I played FE6 I did a "blatant Wolt favoritism"
Is this guy going to pretend to kill himself over accusations made by a bald paedophile too?
holy shit me cameo at 2:24
that aside though, as funny as it is to make fun of the guy for being "The FE6 guy", it's just kinda sad at the end of the day that people don't get the credit they deserve. (so thanks for showing our credits when you did!)
People have access to a lot of assets through the public repo, yet for some reason they have the need to scrub our names out just so they can get the ego boost. It helps us when we do get credited since, we actually do work on these things!
7 gale force users, powerstaff, and rallies on one player phase, nice.
that sounds like a regular day in Aether Raids.
Man. Even with Fire Emblem hacking getting so much easier, people still find new ways to fail.
Very well made video!
That's probably why it's getting worse. The ease of access allows any schlameal to make a hack.
Yeah, and Thracia is balanced around the mechanic unlike this game. It’s such a bad idea to implement it carelessly.
"purpose...? for adding more mechanics...?" - THE Guy (circa 2023)
You know, I think capture actually kinda makes sense for fe6, but only in the first section of the game. Since Roy's army is very understaffed and isn't really well funded.
But after Etruia steps in... yeah, throw capture out the bleeding window!
Ye
@dustgraystone9448 Yup, I mean, say what you will about fates, but at least you can see some form of why capture makes sense. You know Corrin being a Shounin protagonist shouting super hero quotes and screaming "LOVE AND PEACE makes PERFECT sense by Fates standard (as you know😅)
13:09 ok, but that Lyn portrait is absolutely sick. And she gets a mount! I am here for this version of Lyn.
Actually, yeah, an older Lyn showing up to FE6 on horseback is pretty cool! There genuinely are things I enjoyed in this remake, it's just the greater whole dragging them down for me.
@@Shark3143 do you happen to know if the sprite is original to the hack, or appropriated from somewhere else?

Hot take, but contradicting FE7's narrative should be encouraged when making an FE6 remake. That's the only point I can give this remake.
@@lpfan4491I'd rather have small things to show continuity between FE6 & 7. Like Raigh mentioning upon meeting Niime that Iris is the name of his grandmother. And she realizes that he & Lugh are her great-grandsons. At that point why not have say. No, he wasn't condescending.
No, he did this out of genuine interest in FE content instead of the desire to be "right."
I hope people stop saying that one day. Harris is an emotionally driven hack who resents objective reasoning in argumentation and purely goes after people out of spite. Hey, at least shadow dragon H5 is only bullshit for the first few chapters before you can cheese it completely
H5 is fair ur just bad :)
Oh, hey, thanks for explaining that bug! I guess you could use guaranteed Rutger crits to make warp-skips of gaidens more reliable and faster.

I would know, because I did exactly that
I used this as well, his magic cap is surprisingly good and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying those 8000g wind swords with shaky accuracy.
Man even if managed to do a full remake of FE6 on Engage's engine that actually worked and looked good I wouldn't be calling myself "THE Binding Blade guy."
When I clicked I was expecting you to be talking about Project Ember actually, which I enjoyed but knew other people had complaints about, but the title still seemed a bit harsh. So fairly relieved it was about a different project literally called "Remake" haha
grinding your units into spirit dust sounds like a bit from an exelblem video
yeah, this is why rebalances are usually not what hackers get super excited about, haha
Side note, it is possible to steal a firestone in fe6. If you let a thief get berserked near an enemy manakete, they will steal their firestone. It is risky but very fun
The second I saw aptitude on Shanna I just had to roll my eyes bro. No fucking words.
Wh- why is the Tower of Valni in here??? 😂
the Laguz ruins are also in the patch, my guess is that they're a holdover from the FE8 world map
I read that in the same voice of that sonic fandub guy going “Why is NASA there?!”

Just an FYI for who's interested. The maker is redoing the remake from scratch pretty much.

hopefully he does a good job, because the video rips him a new one but im kinda still interesed on playing it.
hopefully he fixes the glitches.
I remember watching my friend played this. Bors was literally the strongest being to ever exist somehow lol
Oh, almost forgot, several of the new ending are a Minor with a older person, take it as you want
I've heard a lot about this hack but THAT'S a new one. TF do you mean?
Least you and your pals got some enjoyment out of it
@@stefanarlio1579 he gives ages to the characters, two new endings are Lance with Clarine (22 with 14), Gonzo and Lilina (28 with 15)
A extra thing to mention, Rutger was always treated to be in a range of more or less in his twenties, in the game he's treated as 17, somehow he doesn't have an ending with Clarine, but Lance does
(Added endings are to be precise Clarine with Lance, Lilina with Gonzo, Astolfo with Igrene and Noah with Fir)

You have such a unique and entertaining way of tearing stuff down. Can't wait for the rest of Radiant Dawn!😁
It's a shame that something like this has happened in the hacking scene😕
The Thracia elements, like all the unique weapons and skills sound really cool if the hack wasn't so unbalanced (from what you say). The thing with enemies having such powerful skills sounds like such a pain too; having to check them all before doing anything. Really tripped my up in FE5 where enemies often had effective weapons or you'd end up in the range of a ballista you didn't even realize was there.
This makes me so upset. I thought that Remake and Ember were completely different things that were just similar at the beginning. I haven't gotten far in either so I guess Im glad I saw this now rather than later.

This 'remake' is just pure laziness and greed, simple as that
Oh yeah i've seen this Rom hack a few months ago.
I didn't know that it has this many problems but I think I still might wanna check it out.
I feel like most remakes should just have QOL and character rebalancing so the game wouldn’t be easy/unfair while also being still fun
I think that the one who has the most need for this sort of thing is Fates Birthright and Revelation, in fact there are hack roms who try to do that but they aren't finished.
The best romhack is Dorcas Emblem the Binding Dorc. This romhack proves that we’ll never have something as great
As a huge FE6 fan and someone who enjoyed (but hadn't finished) both Project Ember and this remake, I had no idea of all the issues plaguing this rom hack. This video surprised me since I don't really follow FE rom hacking so closely lately, I just look back every so often and in those times it's usually progressed leaps and bounds from when I last saw it. Great video, super informative, and kindly have my sub.
22:10 Percival's armor went to the school of Jorato's Hat
13:50 I know this was just a really unfortunate side effect of bosses having leadership stars and their effect not being turned off when they're noncombatants... But this would be kinda cool to see implemented (intentionally and with care) in another rom hack. Cutscene-only bosses temporarily boosting their army's performance while they're on the field, I mean.
When I saw this hack featured in the Emblemcon panel on FE6 reduxes I was exasperated beyond belief
Glad to see a video being made on the creator’s scummy behavior and the hack’s highly questionable design decisions, hopefully it’ll get the word out to more people to steer clear of it
Ive tried this remake, my game keeps crashing on the opening cutscene on the chapter were you fight Narcian, i cant skip it so its basically unplayable for me which is kida sad but eh.
This reminds me of Spider-Man Lotus or Sonic Omens where a fan who thinks they're hot shit ends up making a subpar creation.
Don't know how I got this recommended to me right when it came out, but I'm glad it did! I love looking at "disaster breakdowns" and such; Seeing it for a Fire Emblem mod is quite a treat!
Great video.
I don't know why this joke came to mind a month later.
But this is truly the Yakuza Kiwami of Fire Emblem games.
Instead of remaking the game, the creator just pays lip service to other games, and also reuses assets from other games.
This is random but where did you get the chomp sound effect on the spirit dust at 6:50
