    Watching your videos and others have confirmed that I was right when I suggested one of my sons, who is going to the culinary institute, to travel to Vietnam after he graduates. I told him to spend at least 6 months traveling around the country and focus on the street food because of its very diversified. His answer was “I’d go wherever you want me to go as long as you pay for it daddy!” 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  Год назад +3

      Haha. Glad we could help inspire. Tbh, Southeast Asia’s street food culture is a great place to learn flavors and be inspired. Vietnam is amazing because like you mentioned, it’s very diverse, but also because it’s elegant in its simplicity. You can do so much with the same staple ingredients. Such a culinary powerhouse. We hope your son gets to enjoy the flavors of Vietnam!

    I love soy milk. Sometime we make soymilk at home in the U.S. it take a lot of effort but it's worth it. All you need to do is buy soybeans at the market, wash it first and then leave it in the water over night. The next day put soybeans in the grinder with 1-2 cups of water and grind it, then pour it out on a clean cloth and squeeze the milk out into a bowl. After you done all that, put soymilk in a pan and cook it until you see a bubble mean it's hot. Then viola you have home made soymilk It's very tasty

    • @mikeandashley

    I grew up making soy milk at home with my mom so when the US started selling it in cartons, I bought and tried and was like, "Blech! What the heck is this watered down version? It's gross!" The version you get in Asia will be homemade and fresh, rich and delicious! You should have looked for the peanut version, which is also popular in Da Lat, as I think you'd really love that one. Vietnam has problems growing berries and such so that's why they prize the strawberries...I was crossing my fingers the strawberries were good for you guys as I heard other foreigners say they weren't sweet (either they still can't grow them as well as in Western countries or they were picked early).

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  Год назад +1

      Seriously the best strawberries we’ve ever had! And yea, the soy milk in the US is terrible by comparison. I want to go learn how to make soy milk like they do in Vietnam so I never have to drink the packaged stuff again!

    • @datgal2u
      @datgal2u Год назад +1

      @@mikeandashley You'd be surprised how easy it is to make and youtube teaches everything. :) Basically soak your soybeans overnight. Next morning, put the soaked beans in a blender bowl and add water....I don't recall the ratio, but maybe try 1 part soybeans to 2 parts water first (you can always dilute with more water later, but less water will make a richer, thicker drink). Blend until the beans are smooth. Strain with a nut milk bag or a clean piece of cloth (you can try to use the strained beans to blend again with a little more water to eek out as soy essence as possible). Then steam it until the raw smell goes away, basically until you see a little steam coming from the liquid (you can cook it over direct heat, but do it on low so it doesn't scorch/burn and stir every now and then). Add sugar to your liking or vanilla if you want. If you're fancy, find some pandan leaves (easier to find in the freezer section) and make pandan flavor. Yum!

    • @mikeandashley

      Dâu ngọt hay chua là do thời tiết, Đà Lạt nữa năm mùa nắng nữa năm mùa mưa, mùa mưa dâu se chua, mùa nắng dâu sẽ ngọt. Nếu bạn đến Đà Lạt vào mùa mưa dâu rất ít, mắc mà không ngọt. Phương Tây có nơi cũng trồng theo mùa, mùa đông giá lạnh sẽ không có dâu.

      Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long là vựa lúa và trái cây của Việt Nam, Đà Lạt là vựa rau củ và hoa. Tuy nhiên ngày nay rau củ thì nhiều vùng khác cũng trồng được để xuất khẩu mà chi phí vận chuyển rẻ hơn nên Đà Lạt cũng mất dần vị thế rau củ.

      Sort of yea, but if you’re on a bus all day, then get in in the evening and sleep all night, it’s kind of similar! 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️ A lot of the budget options for transportation between the cities seemed to be these overnight busses, so we ran with it. You can also take slightly more expensive “limo vans” that run during the daytime. It just depends on what works for your budget. ☺️

    The dish you call Pizza Da Lat is wrong. Because its name is BANH TRANG. It is a separate dish and has nothing to do with Italian Pizza, so let's call it BANH TRANG, thanks.

      Thanks for helping us learn the proper names! ☺️ We we’re always told it was called “Vietnamese Pizza” and originated in Da Lat, we however learned the real name, which we included in the video along with the price during editing. We are learning so much during our travels! Thanks for watching. ☺️🙏

      It's okay for them to interpret it as Da Lat pizza as that's what a lot of Vietnamese tell Westerners to call it since Vietnamese is VERY difficult for foreigners to pronounce.

    dalat is more for vacation relaxation and scenery, so the food isn't anything to write home about imo, Saigon/HCMC, Hue, and Hanoi has the best food because of the wide variety. HCMC and Hanoi will carry most of the various regional foods in vietnam that are particular to specific regions.

      Yea, we LOVE Da Lat, but Hanoi and Saigon def have the best food scenes… Hoi An had some lovely dishes as well!
