- How to replace the auxiliary drive belt and tensioner on various Ford vehicles with the 2.0TDCi DW10(HDi) engine used between circa 2003-2015
This setup is used on some Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat and Volvo models also.
Please note that some models have slight variances not shown in this video.

That sort of finicky job raises my blood pressure and makes my family and pets give a wide berth for several hours. Thank the Lord there are folks such as yourself that i will gladly pay for the sake of my own sanity and the safety of others.
Good video buddy.
Thanks for your brilliant video.
58 plate 2.0 TDCi Focus. Tensioner nut was 19mm on mine so just needed two 19mm combination spanners (or a 19 and 20 etc) for the extra leverage.
Took less than 30 minutes on the roadside using standard jack and hand tools - trolley jack and air/electric ratchet would speed things up.
Mine only had Alternator, A/C, Crank and the tensioner/idler pulleys.
Found it easiest to get belt on Alt, A/C and partially on Crank pulley then push back idler with the 'extended' spanners and finally flip on crank pulley, properly as more 'space' - didn't need to use 5mm pin to hold 'back' tension.
As shown in video you are turning spanner anti-clockwise as if to undo bolt but due to cam action (and very tight bolt) idler pulley pushes back to release tension on belt.
Thanks for that, trying to find the right video was a pain, thankfully your engine is the same as my focus CC, but just needed a new belt. I found removing everything was a bigger pain than the fitting of the new belt!! Thanks again. Life saver!👍
Done this job today on my Kuga, thanks to this vid. Oddly my tensioner that come off (Dayco) was 17mm on the end, the replacement was 15mm nut!? Good job to be honest as I didn’t have a 15mm spanner - so had the original been 15mm I’d not have been able to get it un-tentioned.
Great Video, I have needed to do this for a while on my car, my tensioner looks like its bouncing all the time and if water gets on it it squeals, I feel confident I can do it after watching your video , THANKS
Thanks so much for this👍
Nice job and excellent video!
Great video mate
Thanks for this. Tensioner bolt was 17mm on my 08, luckily I have a set of the Brittool hexagonal spanners, as the bi-hex went round the bolt head, maybe been damaged before I had it.
Mine too! 17mm, the replacement was 15mm?
Any more of these videos in the pipeline that’s if you have got time for them I really enjoy these because I have a Ford C-Max 2005 tdci ghia and there’s not much about how to repair them on RUclips carnt wait for the next 1 keep up the good work m8
Have been busy with family life recently but have more in the pipeline that I have ready to film very soon
@@thegasketshead1416 that’s great news and of course family comes first every time I am looking forward to the next upload wen ever you can👍👍
Great video, i keep getting a rubber smell on a 2011 mk4 2 ltr mondeo, had new aux belt , water pump and cam belt last year,
no noise do you think the smell is due to a new belt on full lock ??
The tyres are a few mouths old , the smell comes then vanishes in seconds.
I have had a new aux belt tensioner , would it make a noise if it was on the way out t?
On my Ford Galaxy DW10 the original belt is FoMoCo 6PK 1206. The Gates belt have different tracks, they do not fit into the rollers
@the Gaskets Head
How would you start to get the alternator out of the engine?
From the top or bottom? There are obstacles in both directions, the fuel filter on top and the ac compressor at the bottom.
The alternator can be done mostly from the top but the fuel filter would have to be taken out for clear access. If you ever had to remove the a/c compressor then it would be done from underneath
Hey mate.. is it necessary to replace the tensioners? Or is it ok to keep it if still seems rotating well?.. got my 2.0 TDCI at 96k odo now.. planning to get drive belt change on 100k..
In my case it was the tensioner that was making the noise but if it’s not then there is no need to change it
I have this engine in my s40 2009
Is idle 900 normal?
Also it sort of shakes the whole car on idle too every couple of seconds, annoys me.
When changing the belt is it necessary to do the water pump as well. Thanks.
The water pump is driven by the timing belt on this engine so would only do it when replacing that to be honest
could i change the belt on the road side if i was to have one of them cool spanner tool to release the tension?
You don’t need one and is more of just a time saver. You can couple two spanners together and do it from underneath but be warned, watch your eyes!!!
@@thegasketshead1416 Ah, so i would definitely need to take the wheel off, cant be done from above?
@@yolinkin yes the wheel would need to come off to do it that way. I suppose you could get the wheel up on the kerb but would be a tight squeeze 😂
I had the drive belt and tensioner replaced I can see the tensioner vibrating when the car in idle is it normal for the tensioner to vibrate does your car tensioner vibrate I have a ford galaxy.
That’s the tensioner doing it’s job, nothing to worry about. Old fixed ones wouldn’t move but modern types are spring loaded to give/let off tension as needed.
I can't seem to find that part.
Hello mate done mine but i can’t get tension on the belt. Didn’t changed tensioner as it was holding tension on the old belt.
Firstly check that the new belt is definitely the same and not a bit bigger. If not it could be the tensioner has failed and cannot hold tension on the new belt possibly
Is this the same as the 06 Volvo V50 2.0D engine?
As far as I’m aware it is. There may be a few minor differences but should be nigh on identical in the most part(famous last words 😂)
@@thegasketshead1416 no worries, belts are on my to do list... Eventually so I will see if I can use the vid for references 😁
I changed the alternator same belt, same tensioner now there's huge slack the belt without moving thr tensioner. Could it be because I didn't put a drill bit in? Scratching my head on what to do here
Most new tensioners will have a pin installed that needs to be pulled out once everything is good to go. If not and there is still slack then recheck the routing of the belt
@@thegasketshead1416 school boyed it on the belt. Just a fuel filter to prime and I should be gtg. Cheers mate
why is your diesel filter housing shaking when the engine is started?
It’s just a plastic housing attached to a Diesel engine, no high levels of refinement with these 😂
Engine code? D4204T?
Do you not need to tighten the 15mm socket
It’s pre tightened in production and shouldn’t need to be tightened. If you turn it the wrong way you can loosen it but not to worry, just nip it back up
I think this was misalignment issue of the pulley and not the bearing.
