  • Happy 4th of July Baby Kiln Opening!
This one is short but sweet and packed with lots of great information.
First time trying the super popular Frozen Pond technique and it was a fail… or was it? You decide. Thanks to Kathy McGuire who first shared this glaze idea!
The new Speedball colors look great on the test plate and I will be doing more testing and an in depth comparison to the existing Speedball underglaze colors.
Finally I share the super cute Lemon Bread Plate which I made and glazes in recent tutorials that you can find on ClayShare.com
    Firing info:
Those pieces were fired to cone 5 on medium speed with a 1 hour and 30 minute preheat then a 18 minute hold at the end in an L&L DLH11-DX test kiln.

I have no idea what the frozen pond technique is so I am just looking at a stunning bowl. I realize that when you have a plan and it doesn't work out that sometimes that all you see is failure. But no, that is a beautiful bowl. ♥️

Beautiful test bowl. I often make second tests using the accent colors as main colors, and the main ones as accent …
It gives an idea of how the different colors behave in the same conditions. And it can make a nice set! Have a nice day 😊

I had better definition of the RHC dots by using two or 3 coats and putting them between the obsidian and the top glaze. Your bowl still looks awesome!

I use Spectrum 1511 Black as the base (it's cheaper than Amaco Obsidian), then use 2 coats of sponge Running Hot Chowder, then whatever glaze I want on top. or not. RHC does coolness with 1511.

I really like the burnt orange. The lilac is nice too. What’s your favorite?

I really like the burnt orange too. It’s so hard to pick a favorite maybe after some more tests I’ll have one.😁

Use ust 2 coats of obsidian. If you are sponge painting the other two colors you may need three dots as the sponge tends to be more uneven. If brushing use two coats of each

I did do 3 coats of the obsidian and I think that is one of the reasons why it didn’t turn out. I’m going to do another today with only 2 coats of the obsidian.☺️

I find that 2 coats of obsidian works better, less color is absorbed by that dark glaze

I wish everyone would stop using the word fail!! It’s so overused now, for just about everything

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  3 месяца назад +1

I agree! Did this bowl fail as a frozen pond glaze, yes, is it a great bowl, yes. So a fail and not a fail.😁
