In this video I take you with me on the process of trying out pouring with glazes. I used stoneware glazes from Amaco and Botz, but you can of course do this technique with any other glaze as well. In the end we open the kiln together and we have a look at the final results!
Bisque fire: 1020°C / 1868°F / cone 06
Glaze fire: 1220°C / 2228°F / cone 6

Love this technique. And like your clever use of old forks as mixers.
I'm overjoyed that you're on this planet and sharing your talents with the rest of us.
Strong hug and love.
Greetings from Vancouver British Columbia! Thank you for sharing your techniques, which are very cool. I find your videos to be inspiring! Best regards from Canada 🍁
That is so nice to hear! Thank you so much :))
If you put on one single thin layer and let it dry of any color, then pour your colors in layers in a cup, then pour the layered glazes over your bisque, it will run better. I have done this for 7 years.
Do you have a YT channel or an Instagram I can see your technique? Sounds very interesting!!
Thank you for doing all of this. You are so creative. They are pretty.
I didn't expect to watch an experimental glazing video at 23h and get a giggle out of it. 😂 You have a new follower. "If it looks like I am sweating is because I am, it's 32degrees here....I am not made for this" 😂😂😂 if I had my doubts, now I know 100% you are Dutch ❤. Hi from Amsterdam
Hahah thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it :))
I’m glad I caught this video as I have just ordered a load of the celadon glazes! Just love them! Thanks for the inspiration!
Such a delight to watch your videos! Thanks for sharing your experiments. 😊
I like how you experiment live. Thanks.
These glaze combinations are just wonderful and such a simple technique. You're so talented. Post firing ~ ooohhh!! They're GORGEOUS. Irregularity and 'imperfect' only adds to their artistic appeal deals. It's absolutely fine.
Awww thank you so much!!🤗
bravo pour votre tuto - tres joli technique pour mélanger des émaux. le rendu est magnifique. j'espère qu'à la cuisson ce sera aussi magnifique 😊😊😊👏👏👏👏👏
Maybe if you wet the bisque with a damp sponge right before you pour the glaze on, it might swirl around more evenly. Just a guess :-)
Excellent idea, looks like marbling. Thank you for the video!
Don't throw out that glaze!!! Let it dry and break it into chips that you can put on a wet layer of glaze for a confetti effect
I was wondering if you could powder it and like blow or throw it across a wet glaze? Not a pottery person
Thank you for sharing your experimentation! Really enjoyed going along for the ride.❤
Greetings from Northern California. I have some unglazed pieces I’m going to try this on right now. Thank you so much for sharing!
Awesome! How did it go?
Hi Calder, great video, as usual! Thanks! Oolites form in Amaco's Celadon glaze formulas over time and will not melt when fired. You can sieve them out before glazing, (80 mesh is best) or after the glaze is dry, brush or pick them off before firing. Thanks again for your videos! Always inspiring.
Thank you so much! Ohh I didn't know what they were called, that's so interesting! Thank you for letting me know! I think I'll just pick them off next time :)
You will see more of the lines between the different glazes on a plate as the glazes will not run down. You could try thinning the glazes with water for easier pouring. If you let the glaze run off the edges then you only have to paint the back and you have a finished piece.
Loved this video, will try this in the future when I get a kiln.
So Happy I found your videos! Love all the glaze pours, thanks for sharing the glaze info and the results! You have a friend here in New Jersey USA Thanks Stay Safe and keep making these videos!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful :))
I’ve had issues with marigold being too thick. I just add water to thin it, never had a problem doing this to any brushing glaze. It’s good to see you again, welcome back 💗
Yes, you can always add water if a glaze is too thick, but I only realized it was too thick after I had already poured it in😅 Thank you!🤗
I love what you do with pottery. you do a great job. wish I kept up with it.
Thank you so much!
Really cool technique! Found your video most inspiring! Thank you so much for experimenting pouring with glazes, too!
These are gorgeous, you have a lovely talent and inspire me to find mine! :)
Thank you so much!! That's nice to hear :)
Great to watch you experimenting, lovely results😊
Thank you so much!!🤗
This is a fun experiment! I wonder if on a plate or flat surface we'd get more swirling
Yes I think that's the case, then the glaze would melt and blend less, which will make the lines sharper, just like the bottom of the bowl with the botz glazes😊
I was planning to give something like this a try, really cool to see how it turned out! Looking forward to mixing colors :)
Have funnn :)
I love your videos!! They are inspiring and educational! Thank you so much!❤
Thank you!! That's so nice to hear🥰
It’s always fun to play with colors….
Have you tried a hand held milk frother for stirring? I keep one that on it's stand just for this purpose. Plus, you just turn it on in water to clean!
I have never tried that, but it does sound great! Thank you!!
Very cool experiment using the pouring technique in glazing:)❤👍🏻
Thank you so much!!🤗
Another great informative video. Thanks for sharing. Love the glaze pouring. I find the celadons don't blend as well as the Potters Choice does. I am a passionate hobby potter and mostly self-taught so videos like yours are very helpful. Keep cool and I look forward to your next video. Greetings from South Africa.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful. The celadons indeed blend way less, I think I'm going to try it again and add some more water, so that I can mix it a bit more before firing it🤗
I love this experiment, I wonder if Mayco gloss colors would leave better "lines"
I Calder! :-) I am enjoying your pouring glazes video but can you please tell me what you said at footage 4:00 after you said “…those Amaco glazes fire at cone five and six,”….. what did you say after that? About low fire glazes? I keep listening to that sentence over and over and can’t figure out what you said.
I said that you can try doing this technique with low fire glazes! It probably works great with any glaze. Thank you for watching :))
Hi Calder, I enjoyed watching your experiments very much. As I´m new here please forgive me, if it was said before, but what type ( brand, volume etc.) of kiln do you own and can you recommend it?
Hi, I'm glad you liked my video! I use the NABERTHERM TOP 60, which is a 60L kiln. It work quite good, but maybe a kiln that is a bit smaller would work better, cause this one does take quite long to fire. But it also depents on how much you are going to want to fire :)
Thanks!😊
Did you put numbers on bottom of bowls so you know which bowl is which?
No I didn't, but I recorded everything, so I could easily look back at my footage and see which bowl was which :)
If you moisten the bowl before pouring, the glazes will run better. TIP from another potter's channel
Also the pinhole pots can be glaze fired again to smooth the surface. Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!! That is a great tip :))
Funny comments*))) I will try this way of pouring ❤️😎🤓👋
Thank you! Have fun!!😊
UAU?! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was waiting to see how the red one turns out but you didn't show it 😅
I did show all of them, but the red one didn't stay red😅
If you fell into a vat of glaze I would put money on you becoming the Joker.
Would this work with underglazes??
Yes, I made a video about it :) ruclips.net/video/mJ-G-Z2WZyI/видео.html
You look like a Tim Burton character!
Muy lindo todo pero no lo
entendemos por favor si lo puede traducir en español gracias 😮
Maybe mix the glaze with water and then pour? Too thick that can’t even flow…
